History in the Making By Kati Letzelter We walked through the front doors of Cloverleaf High School as freshmen in 2007, and now it’s time we walk out together for the last time as students. Little did we know, we were creating history these past four years. We took in all we could from high school and made as many memories as possi-ble. Freshmen year is the beginning of it all. We start out immature, just trying to fit in and find our way. We tried so hard because we thought that those first days of high school would define who we are for the rest of our lives. We took things for granted, made mistakes, and dreamed about nothing but our senior year. Little did we know it would come right around the cor-ner. Sophomore year feels like it could be the worst year of your life but may turn out to bring you some great memories. We worried about passing the OGTs, without realiz-ing that one day we would have to take even harder tests than that. We wanted to get past our underclass-men years and become upperclass-men so that we too could skip school and come in late. Junior year, the beginning of the end, took us to a new level. We were finally upperclassmen and felt so much cooler than all those un-derclassmen even though not too long ago we were in their shoes. As juniors you can chill out because you don’t need to take tests or carry the stress of college on your shoulders every day. You can en-joy high school knowing that you can make memories and you still have time to make more. We could go to football games without hav-ing to cry because we knew it was-n’t our last and we could go to a

dance and not think about where we were going to be next year. It felt carefree, exciting and fun, but everything comes to an end. Senior year, the grand finale, brought us many lasts that will cling to us for the rest of our lives. Our last first day of high school, our last time under those Friday Night lights, our last high school dance, and our last day of attending Cloverleaf High School as a stu-dent and not a visitor. It came too quickly! One minute we’re fresh-men talking about senior year, making plans, and the next we’re seniors crying over football games,

dances, and our last days of school. Of course the excitement is over-whelming because we finally made it to the end and are ready for the beginning but Cloverleaf gave us enough tools to survive college and add on to our life experiences. If we seniors learned anything from high school it was to take our time because these years could bring memories that we want to hold on to, cling to, ones we can’t forget, this could be our last time together. What if at some moment we have a chance worth taking? High school is a part of your own History in the Making.

“At 17, it’s hard to look past Friday night!” It didn’t matter if we won or lost, what we’re left with is nothing but memories. Photos courtesy of Kati Letzelter

Remember When... By Nicole Kolodka As we are about to take our next step in life, many of us reminisce about our childhood memories. Now, at the ages of 17, 18, or 19, our minds are focused on differ-ent things than as a child. Whether we are going to college or boot camp or working, we all have something different on our minds. We have new stresses in life and new goals instead of be-coming an astronaut or fire fighter. It is our time to finish growing-up. “Life as a child was pretty care- free,” said Jennifer Geissman. “I had huge dreams and loved play-ing pretend.” When we were kids, we could not wait to grow up. We were so excited to drive, to date, and to see if being older was really that cool. But that childhood future is now the present. We look forward to our new future and what it will hold. “As a child I had very little to worry about,” commented Mor-gan Morris. “The decisions I make will affect the rest of my life.” Most of us can agree that as children we were carefree and had no worries in life. If we did have worries when we were little, then like Sam Goik, it was what toy to play with. “Now that I am older, life has taken a new appearance,” Caleb Goodreau comments. “Instead of simplicity, life is full of decisions and responsibilities.” Another fact we will have to face is that our parents will not be around to help us out as much. We will have to face challenges

on our own and this will deter-mine who we really are. “I just go with it,” said Nate Klag. “I do not try to argue with stuff because I know it has to happen.” Unlike Nate, other people will stress about it. Growing up does not mean we cannot have fun or that we have to be super serious. But our lives are filled with more responsibilities and hardships. “When I was younger, life was a time of fun and carefree living,” Cory Woodhall said. “Now our lives are based off of how we re-spond to the obstacles we face.” But even though we are growing up, there are positive outlooks. “I am excited to grow up be-cause I want to broaden my hori-zons,” stated Shelby Kozma. “I am not going to care what people will think about me.” With new opportunities such as jobs, college, boot camp, or just

living in our parents’ basement, we have a lot to choose from that will change our lives. These op-portunities give us the chance to help people in ways we could not have before. “Life is a chance to give and make a difference and not to just receive as when we were kids,” commented valedictorian James Crawford. “It is now my turn to give of myself to the world.” As we set forth, taking the next step in life, we will always re-member our times as children. There will be days when we long for the simple life but then we will realize that we have come so far already and that so much more is to come. With many obstacles and possibilities that we will face, we can rise to the challenge and create the life for ourselves that we always dreamed of as chil-dren.

Days come and go but the memories you make your Senior year will last a lifetime. Photo courtesy of Kati Letzelter

Intoducing Your Valedictorians

Makenna Huff Valedictorian After a successful academic career at Cloverleaf, senior Makenna Huff graduates as the top-ranked student for the class of 2011. This fall, the valedictorian will join Ohio Wesleyan University to major in mathematics and eventually become a math teacher, preferably for high school or college students. While Huff plans to continue her education through graduate school, she is unsure what her future may entail. “Time will tell,” she says. Huff is appreciative of her experience at Cloverleaf and says that she will walk away from high school with friends and a lot of memories. While at Cloverleaf, Huff’s favorite class was Mechanical Drawing and her favorite teachers were Mr. Flint, Mr. Ryan, Mr. Gucker, Mrs. Wooley, and Mr. Vaughn. “She is an exceptional student,” said Jim Vaughn. “She has been one of the best students I have had in my 13 years of teach-ing.”

Sierra Hollopeter Valedictorian Also graduating as a valedictorian in 2011 is Sierra Hollopeter, who will be attending Miami University (Ohio) beginning in the fall. While her major is still undecided, Hollopeter knows that she would like to obtain a master’s degree and study abroad at some point. Hollopeter had a fun and rewarding high school career and will take with her many friends and memories from Cloverleaf. Hollopeter’s favorite class was AP Statistics her senior year and her favorite teachers at Cloverleaf are Mrs. Wooley and Mr. Wachtel. “I’ve been privileged to have Sierra in 9th Grade Honors English and AP English in 12th grade,” said Mary Lee Wooley, her English teacher. “She is worthy of the honor of being valedictorian.”

Sarah Rogers Valedictorian Sarah Rogers, who will be entering John Carroll University to study Biochemistry, is also graduating Cloverleaf High School as a valedictorian for the class of 2011. Rogers would like to use biochemistry to possibly conduct research or become a doc-tor. “I’ll end up where I’m supposed to be,” she contently stated. Rogers has a positive high school experience and will take with her memories and good friends. Her favorite teachers at Cloverleaf are “the science hall teachers” and her favorite class is AP English. “I think Sarah is one of the more focused, passionate, and kind-hearted students I have enjoyed teaching,” commented sci-ence teacher Garth Gucker. “She is very conscious about always trying her best.”

and Salutatorians for 2011

Lauren McGraw Salutatorian After graduating as a salutatorian of the class of 2011, Lauren McGraw is leaving Cloverleaf to study meteorology at the Uni-versity of Oklahoma. McGraw wants to conduct research as her career and would like to go on to graduate school and also re-ceive a doctorate. McGraw is leaving Cloverleaf with a strong work ethic that she hopes will follow her the rest of her life. McGraw’s favorite class at Cloverleaf was Chemistry II her senior year and her favorite teacher is Mr. Flint of the social stud-ies department. “Lauren is an excellent student, one of the finest I’ve had,” said Flint. “She has also been a true leader on Academic Challenge for years.”

James Crawford Salutatorian James Crawford, who will be attending Ohio Northern University, is excited to be graduating Cloverleaf as a salutatorian. At Ohio Northern, Crawford will study Mechanical Engineering and would like to work in transportation development or energy development. In the future, James wants to go to college, get a career, and marry at some point. “Whatever God wants me to do,” he said. If he had to choose one, Crawford’s favorite teacher is Mrs. Wooley and his favorite class was Robotics with Mr. Vaughn. Crawford says he is walking away from Cloverleaf with growth as an individual, which has been witnessed first-hand by his favorite teacher. “I’ve known James since 8th grade when he took my Honors English class, and I had him again in 11th grade when he had AP English, and now he is the National Honor Society president,” said Wooley. “I am pleased to know him and know that he is as nice as he is smart.”

What We Saw, What We Encountered By Brendan Maynard & Matthew Connell We are the generation that has been through and seen dramatic situations and events that have changed our nation’s history and the course of American life. All seniors started their childhood during the 90’s and the turn of the millennium was a historic feat. We have seen wars on and off our soil, the deaths of many celebri-ties and iconic figures, the first black president of the United States, the most horrid and uni-maginable act of terrorism set in NYC, as well as many economic and natural disasters that have brought American life to a screeching halt. The worst attack on American soil occurred on Sept. 11, 2001, at around 8:46 a.m. Nineteen hijack-ers took control of four commer-cial airlines. American Airlines flight 11 and United Airlines flight 175 both crashed into the north and south towers of the World Trade Center. Around 9:57 a.m., American Airlines flight 77 crashed into the Pentagon, and around 10:03 a.m., United Air-lines flight 93 crash landed in a field in Shanksville, Pennsyl-vania. “That was the worst tragedy we have ever heard of,” said senior Josh Longsdorf. “I remember I was in Mrs. Wil-son’s 4th grade class at Lodi Ele-mentary when the attacks hap-pened. All I remember is the en-tire class going silent,” he added. So many American lives were lost on that tragic day. Nearly 2,752 Americans lost their lives that morning, not counting the 343 firefighters and 60 police of-ficers killed while on duty serving

their country. The United States special forces recently killed the mastermind behind the 9/11 attacks. On May 2, 2011, an elite squad of Navy Seals ambushed a compound where Bin Laden was supposedly hiding out. Bin Laden’s son and courier were also among those killed during the raid. Osama was shot in his chest and head; he then retreated to his bedroom, where he soon died. Americans were ecstatic with the news that he had been killed. “I saw it on TV at home, I was like, ‘it’s about time,’” senior Bobby Ellis commented. “Although I will say that Bin Laden is now the 2001-2011 Hide and Seek King,” he added. Many influential figures and ce-lebrities have died in our lifetime and over the course of our four years of high school. Heath Ledger, Michael Jackson, Steve Irwin, James Brown, Johnny Cash, Ray Charles, Patrick Swayze, Farrah Fawcett, Fred Rogers (aka Mr. Rogers), and Ronald Reagan are among many others that have passed away. Senior T.J. Hurwitz explains that if he had the power to bring back one of the celebrities that have died, he would bring back Billy Mays, the former OxiClean spokesperson. “I would definitely bring back Billy Mays! That guy could sell a ketchup popsicle to a woman in white gloves!” he went on to ex-plain. The class of 2011 has seen many disasters, economic plummets, and foreign conflicts. Through it all, our nation has continued to unite as one body and persevered through the dark days and nights.

Mr. Ron Wachtel commented on what lies ahead for our generation and the possibility of a brighter future. “I believe history repeats itself, from my experience. I think wars will be diminished, but as far as gas prices…I don’t know. I do think people will get back to work and the economy will balance again; it’s a matter of how long it takes. I think the class of 2011 will experience another crisis. Whether it is 2025, it’s bound to happen again,” he concluded. Hopefully, he is right. Hope-fully, there is a brighter future in store for us. Through all the loss and tragedy along the way, the graduating class of 2011 will al-ways remember their years at Cloverleaf, the good and the bad. Students who are continuing their education further into college, and even ones who aren’t, they will be the generation to help change the world. With that, wel-come to the real world everyone and the best of luck to you all!

High School: An Incredible Experience! By Megan Savick These past four years have gone by fast and so much has happened over our years at the high school. All of us have created memories that will remain with us forever, even if at times things were not going as we had planned. Many seniors were asked of their highs and lows throughout the years. “My best time is definitely senior year,” Blake McCullough said. “There are just so many amazing people, friends, and good times. My low would be freshman year when I was still trying to figure things out.” For most seniors, they are excited to be graduating and cannot wait to continue their lives outside of Cloverleaf. “My high at Cloverleaf is gradu-ating finally,” Tera Staten stated. “But I’m not so thrilled at the fact that we have to work for 54 more years!” Like Staten, Katie Kolodka is happy this year is almost over. “My best time that I will have here is graduation,” Kolodka ex-plained. “I wouldn’t say that I have had any lows throughout the years. It’s all an experience to me, and I can’t wait to go to college.” For others, these four years have been about making new friends and enjoying those special mo-ments. “I am so thankful that I had the chance to be friends with Megan Savick in Spanish class,” Janelle Shaffer said. “She is one of my best friends, and we love to eat cherry bread! My low would be Mrs. Packard always walking in when I was talking loudly and yelling at Megan jokingly.” Also like Shaffer, Samantha Goik is glad that she had the chance to

meet some of the best friends she has now. “My all-time high here at Clover-leaf is just making so many memo-ries and friends,” Goik said. “They mean the world to me and I don’t know what I would do with-out them! Going to my last high school activities is my low; it’s so sad.” This year is winding down, and many seniors are excited to get out into the real world. However, leaving their friends is the hardest part. “I loved hanging out and making so many friends,” Zach Icardi stated. “I had a great time with all of them, making so many memo-ries. It’s going to be really hard for me to leave my friends who I will not get to see as much when I’m gone.” Ryan Weir feels the same as Icardi. “My best time here is definitely senior year,” Weir said. “I got the chance to meet Morgan, and I

liked track a lot. I am not looking forward to leaving all my friends after graduation though.” Kyle Schreiber shares his high and low throughout the past four years. “My high at the Leaf is Spanish class,” Schreiber explained. “The teachers are incredible. My worst time was probably freshman year when I had a huge fight with my best friends.” Sierra Hollopeter also explained her best and worst times. “My best time was at the end of junior year when we didn’t have anything to do,” Hollopeter stated. “Being older is really bringing me down though; I hate growing up.” Whether you admit it or not, we all have had made so many memo-ries at Cloverleaf that will last us a lifetime. Life is an incredible ex-perience that faces us with chal-lenges, but everything happens for a reason and the fact is…life goes on.

Boys of Fall By Nicole Justice Although it seemed to start off just as the others did, it sure did not end the same. October 29th 2010 is a day that most of us sen-iors will never forget. It was a chilly night, but that didn’t stop us from cheering on our Colts, hoping for a big win. It was a night the football players and cheerleaders had been not only looking forward to, but also pre-paring for all year. “We got together and talked about the years we have spent to-gether and how it was going to be our last time playing as one. We got into the zones and played for, not just ourselves, but for each other,” said Cameron O’Rourke. Highland has been a rival to us all throughout high school. Al-though we did not know the out-come, we knew it was going to be a tough game and we were ready for the challenge. “It was our last game ever in high school and we wanted to go out on top. We’ve beaten them the past two years before that and we didn’t want to lose the tro-phy,” stated Ryan Zajaczkowski. The time had come for the proud walk across the field. As each name was read, it showed all the blood, sweat and tears it took them to get where they were standing that night. Not only the players, but the other half of the team, “the cheerleaders,” showed their dedication and all of the hard work they put into this the past four years. They always put their heart and soul into every-thing they did for the team. “Over the years we have done so much for the football players and I just hope they really appreciate all that we have done. We sup-

ported them whether they were winning or losing and they will always be our boys,” said Shelby Kozma. As the game began the Colts fans cheered louder than they had all season. It was not only senior night, but it was the last time all of us would be on the same field. We knew what needed to be done and without a little help from eve-ryone, it would have never been accomplished. “We all came together as a class and decided to be louder than we ever have before and make it a game to remember,” announced Cory Woodhall. We didn’t just win, we stomped the Hornets, pulling out a huge win 45-7. “It was seriously the best feeling I’ve ever had in my life to beat Highland by as much as we did. It was a game that I’ll remember forever,” said Steve Dembowski. Even though the big game is what brought us together that night, it was clearly not the end of it. Every single student stormed the field to celebrate the win to-gether and at that moment is when it all began. All it took was one tear from one person to get the whole group started. There were tears of joy shed for the journey we made together but tears of sadness because that jour-ney has come to an end. “I really think senior night was the turning point of our senior year. Everyone crying together made us bond and become closer. Ever since then our class has really showed our love towards each other and are like one big family,” proclaimed Brooke Ziegenhorn. As the lights started to fade and

Gene Clark stadium started to clear out, one of the most memo-rable moments of senior year be-gan. “It was one of the most memora-ble times in my life. I will never forget that night. It made me real-ize to enjoy every moment of my senior year and never take time for granted,” said Anna Carter. It didn’t matter who you were, this circle showed a class could come together and have such a special bond. It turned our tears into laughter and our conversa-tions into memories. “Football senior night was a night I will never forget. It felt great seeing how close our class really was, and making the circle on the field with my fellow class-mates and sharing memories will never be forgotten,” stated Casey Hill. We weren’t quite ready to pack up and leave just yet so we moved it all out into the parking lot. No other tailgate party could even compare. We had the music up loud, hot dogs on the grill and the flames from the bon fire keep-ing us warm but most of all we had our closest friends there help-ing us make these memories. We have been through so much together but through all the ups, downs, twists and turns we have come to the end of the ride. It was a ride that was unforgettable and on the October night we realized that we were all one big family.

Last Play! How do you want it to be

remembered?

Always Remember Your Roots By Kelly Schaffter “No matter where you fall always remember your roots” was the quote displayed on a tree for Homecoming 2011. The students of the class of 2011 were represented as each dif-ferent leaf was a senior’s name and the roots of the tree were the five elementary schools each student came from. We’re one of the last classes to have separate elementary schools. Growing up we really didn’t know too much about the other schools. Middle school for us was quite a shock. It was the first time we really got to know everyone else. At first it was somewhat apparent that there were the Chatham kids, the Lodi kids, the Westfield kids, the Lafay-ette kids and the Seville kids. It did-n’t take long for us to all blend to-gether. Over the years we’ve grown to be one big family, with each of our past school lives making us into the great class we’ve become. “I really liked coming from all dif-ferent schools,” stated senior Nicole Kolodka. “It gave us a chance to make so many more friends and I love having memories from Chat-ham.” With the new elementary school for all of the towns, the students won’t have a chance to have the middle school experience that we have had. “I feel the kids now won't get to have the same experience as we did,” said senior Jen Geissman. “As weird as middle school was for us, it was a good experience and gave us the chance to meet all new friends and make a fresh start before high school.” “I liked being from the different schools and having memories from Lodi,” said senior Sara Hobbs. “Middle school won't be a big deal anymore since everyone will already know everyone.” With all of us coming from differ-ent schools, it gave us a chance to have a unique background before all coming together as one.

“I liked that we all came from dif-ferent elementary schools,” com-mented senior Taylor Cehelnik. “I don't like how the kids now will never get the chance to meet new people and start over. I feel like they won’t have the opportunity to branch out and adjust the way we did, which really brought us closer together.” Although middle school was scary for us at first, it really helped to make us into the class we are. “I was at Seville for all of elemen-tary school and then went to West-field for my last year,” commented senior Scott Fagan. “We all met our sixth grade year. Middle school al-ready wasn’t as big of a shock. Stu-dents now won’t have the chance to meet all new people.”

“With each of us having a different elementary school, we got so used to the people at our school,” said senior Katie Kolodka. “Middle school was a big change for all of us, but ulti-mately really blended us together as one school.” “I went to Westfield my whole life,” stated senior J.T. Venus. “I really liked how I got to stay at one school and the last year we got to meet all new friends and go to mid-dle school the next year together.” As the class of 2011, we can look back on our old memories of being at the different elementary schools, the moments when we met, and how we became friends who made a life- long connection.

One Last By Kati Letzelter There comes a time in your life where it seems as if all you say is goodbye. Goodbye to your child-hood and carefree life, goodbye to the home you grew up in, good-bye to the middle school where you found your first crush and struggled to get through fitting in during your first few years of pu-berty. Now, we are saying good-bye to Cloverleaf High School, our other home for the past four years. Cloverleaf is where we found acceptance through sports, clubs, and great groups of friends. Every experience in high school will be carried with us as we take the next steps of our lives. Yes, high school brings drama, broken hearts and creates distance from you and others as you branch out into different paths, but high school also brings first loves, best friends, and memories that will last a lifetime. You be-come close to teachers and in

some way or another you leave a legacy behind, whether if it’s what you did, what you said or who you left a memory with, there is a part of you that never leaves high school and there is a part of high school that never leaves you. High school flashes by before you know it, and it happens so fast that it hurts at the end. Tears will shed on Graduation Day be-cause it’s a bittersweet goodbye. Some tears will fall over joy be-cause we did it. The Class of 2011 has made their way to the end of a long journey and is now ready to move on, but some tears will be full of sadness because although graduating means mov-ing on to the bigger and better, it also means moving on to the un-known and putting yourself out in a new world hoping to find your way all over again and there’s nothing like saying goodbye to all you have known for what seems

to be your whole life. We started out together scared and full of wonder for what will come, and now once more, we will end the same way but we’re leaving more united and the bond we have created over these past four years will never be broken. We proved that in the fall; we all feel better when we stand and cry together. And now at the end of an unforgettable journey, we will hold our heads up high as we walk down that graduation line. For the stage that we walk across is the bridge between the past and the future, and the only thing that will take us back are the memo-ries that we created here at Clo-verleaf. On behalf of the Class of 2011, I would like to say goodbye to Clo-verleaf’s students and staff. We will surely miss you and we will carry all the memories and good times with us long after our last step out of Cloverleaf High School as students of your school.

Goodbye…..
