TEACHING EXPERIENCE
Founding Math Teacher, Dream Tech High School; California (2014 - present) • Built inquiry-based curriculum for Geometry and Algebra II leading up to projects such as
parabolic satellite dishes and business models using linear programming. • Integrated blended-learning with online assessment and learning management systems.• Taught and developed a Design Thinking Class based on the Stanford d.school process of
empathy building, brainstorming, prototyping, and iteration.• Continuously experimenting with lesson configurations that involve collaboration, small-
group instruction and personalized learning.• 73% of my students have accelerated in their growth data from the MAPS Mathematics
2015-2016 Assessment.
Math and Reading Instructor, CollegeSpring SAT Prep; Hayward, California (Summer, 2014) • Taught with CollegeSpring’s specialized SAT prep curriculum for Math and Reading.• Collaborated with students and mentors on enrichment, class activities, and incentives to
help students stay motivated over the summer--like field trips and ice cream parties.
Intervention Math Instructor, AmeriCorps; Oregon (2013-2014) • Led small group intervention; Physics, Algebra, Geometry, Calculus and Statistics.• Managed Extended Day programs—before and after school homework help and
computer literacy classes.• Recruited and trained volunteers to help with tutoring and community outreach.
Summer Program Teacher, Breakthrough Collaborative; Philadelphia, PA (2008 - 2009) • Created engaging and academically rigorous curriculum for low-income, high potential
8th graders. I taught two consecutive summer courses in Physics and Astronomy. • Managed 5 committee members and the faculty in preparation for the the summer's
celebratory and community events.

Elizabeth SmithAssistant to the Principal College High School Aptos, CA
Dear Ms. Smith, It is with excitement that I write to apply for the Mathematics Teacher position at College High School. For the past two years I have been a founding math teacher at Dream Tech High School, building the curriculum for Algebra, Geometry and Trigonometry and teaching math through collaboration and real-world projects.
I received my Masters in Teaching from Brown University, where the methods of inclusive teaching and the importance of personalized learning were instilled within me. I then worked with AmeriCorps as a Math and Reading Intervention Instructor for low-income, high potential students in the Portland area. Some of my students were first generation, college bound, and working with them (and their families) on their goals of mastering engineering skills was more inspiring than I can express here.
Most recently, my experience at Dream Tech has taught me how to orchestrate personalized learning for classes of over 40 students. Walking into my classroom you would find small groups of students collaborating on linear optimization problems, a corner group where I’m offering small group instruction, and some students building satellites dishes on the periphery. I believe intensely that designing projects promotes discovery so much more effectively than just exams alone. In addition to Algebra I, II and Geometry, I also teach a Design Thinking class, modeled on the Stanford d.school process of building empathy, collaboration, and prototyping.
Beyond being at the forefront of blended-learning and innovative education, I am looking for a school with a greater sense of spiritual purpose and a community I can grow with. College High School has the kind of culture that comes from a strong commitment to compassion and bettering our community. I would love to be a part of such a dedicated and passionate team. Thank you very much for your consideration, and I look forward to hearing from you.
Warmest regards,

Questions to ask: 1. Does the evidence I’m presenting demonstrate how I
meet the job qualifications? 2. What type of professional narrative am I trying to
convey? 3. Visually, does the cover letter and resume look
professional? Is important information easy to find? 4. Will I pass the scan test?
Have I triple checked for spelling and grammar.
