Well done!
REMEMBRANCE DAY
One hundred and one years ago, on 11 November at
11.00am the guns fell silent on the Western Front.
World War One had finally ended.
For a minute on Monday we all stood in silence to
commemorate Remembrance Day and to
remember those servicemen and women who have
scarified so much for the freedom we have today.
During the minute of reflection, our thoughts
extended to the many Australian lives lost across all
battles and particularly those close to us in our
families.
Earlier this year at our Anzac Service, our special
guest and parent, Chief Petty Officer Zamri Burns,
spoke of his deployment overseas and the

Planning has started for the 2020 school year and
based on current numbers there will be 30 classes.
The accurate recording of enrolments is important, so
if your child will be leaving our school or returning late
in 2020 please let us know.
To help in the allocation of students to classes, I invite
parents to write to me directly to share any
information that might assist us in the planning of
classes. Parents will need to use the form available
from the office.
Please understand that this information is shared with
the school executive and other members of staff, so
please be considerate in the information provided.
Also, it is absolutely crucial that it is understood that
the school cannot guarantee that any class
placement request that is made will be fulfilled.
As circumstances change, parents are asked to
return a new form each year.
Please note, teacher requests are not considered as
part of this process.
There are many competing factors that are taken into
consideration when the school forms classes but
please be assured that the classes are made with the
best interests of all of our students at heart.
The final date for 2020 class information to be
submitted to me is Friday, 22 November. Please
understand that information submitted after that date
will not be considered.

contributions still made by our defence force
personnel.
Just prior to Remembrance Day, I received on behalf
of the school a very special gift from Chief Petty
Officer Burns, an Australian flag. The flag was flown
over Camp Sullivan, Kabul, Afghanistan on 15
October 2019. It was formally presented to the school
by his daughter, Livia in Year 1, a significant honour.
As part of the school’s connection with the broader
community on Remembrance Day, I had the
privilege to join Miss McIntyre, a Year 6 choral group,
and the captains and vice-captains at the Pittwater
RSL Sub-Branch service.
Students represented all the Narrabeen North
community proudly – showing dignity and respect for
such an important occasion.
To all our former and current defence force
personnel, home and abroad, we say ‘thank you’. PLANNING 2020

COUNT US IN 2019
Celebrating music education in Australian schools
Everyone loves music, don't they?
After learning and practising "We Are", our whole
school came together to perform and celebrate the
joy of music.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nYUwYAxF4VA
Count Us In is a program where schools across
Australia sing at the same time. Narrabeen North PS
have been participating in this Music Australia
indicative for the last three years. This year was by far
our best performance!
Kindergarten showed off their talents with dance
movements, Year 1 learnt Auslan sign language,
Years 3 and 4 joined in with xylophones and
percussion instruments. Year 5 had amazing body
percussion and Year 6 kept the rhythm going with
cups.
Each stage had the opportunity to perform, so the
children could see the variety of musical talent in the
school. We ended with a K-6 musical extravaganza
with children singing so enthusiastically it was hard to
hear the instruments.
A big thank you to all the teachers and children for
their dedication to music!

Bee Well… FOCUS OF THE WEEK: CONFIDENCE
As they grow, it becomes more
important for children to gain approval from the
adults in their lives. Families and educators can help
improve children’s confidence and sense of self by
giving them regular encouragement and praise.
Praise is most effective when adults are mindful of
how and when they use it.
When praising children, focus on their efforts and
achievements. Praise that’s specific and
acknowledges the processes of completing an
activity or solving a problem helps develop children's
learning and motivation. For example, you might say
“You put away your toys so nicely” or “You've used
so many bright colours in your painting.”
Praising children for their efforts is motivating as it
teaches them what they're doing well.
They can then use this learning when they have
similar experiences in the future. For example, an
educator might say, “I noticed you were really trying
hard at building that block tower” or “Wow, look
how smoothly you're rolling out that playdough.” This
kind of praise is effective as it refers to the process of
completing an activity.
