What if I were to tell you that there is a new style human roaming on the earth today, different from
anything that ever walked the earth before?
What if this new style human not only has reason to guide them through life but is also equipped with a
super intuitive version of instinct?
What if I could show you that you have been propelled through the best times of your life by this upgraded
form of instinct?
Do I have your attention now?
Besides a few stone tools, a rapidly growing prefrontal cortex, and a curiosity that spread them around the
globe, human life didn’t change very much for hundreds of thousands of years, until a totally new human
form was introduced.
This new style human looked like everyone else; fed, bred, and tread the earth like everyone else; but had a
potential advantage over all other members of his or her race.
Something was integrated into this new style human that would allow them to occasionally think like, link
with, and act in a godlike fashion. I will call this advantage, this upgrade within the new human, spiritual
instinct. I’m only saying it this way to get you to think about it differently than saying the spirit of God.
Like all instinctual behavior, this new human instinct is only triggered into action by specific environmental
factors. These factors are typically within our control thereby affording us great advantage.
This new style human, with this upgraded spiritual instinct, is what transformed the world from Stone Age
into the world which you and I now enjoy.
What is Instinct?
Instincts are in-built tendencies that cause an animal to spontaneously engage in a particular pattern of
behavior without any prior training.
In his book Exploring Psychology, author David G. Meyers suggests that in order for a behavior to be
identified as an instinct, it “must have a fixed pattern throughout a species and be unlearned.”

In other words, that instinctive behavior must occur naturally and automatically in all organisms of that
species, class, or kind.
How much different would life be if we humans had birdlike instincts?
Each species of birds builds unique types of nest each and every year; imagine your wife doing the same
thing?
I can imagine after spending the winter in the tropics, again, for some reason in the early spring of
every year you and the misses get the urge to move back to the same town up north, the city where
you were born. The wife goes and rents an 18-wheeler, has Home Depot load and strap down an
entire house of supplies on the trailer; 2x6’s, drywall, shingles, windows, carpet, toilets, the works,
then she backs the big-rig into a loading dock at IKEA. She does it all without a shopping list, she just
knows. She then pulls the heavily laden trailer into the lot that already has the house you built last
year but she just feels you need to start anew; build another. Again, without blueprints, you and the
misses get to work on this beautiful structure, perfect to the last detail… and then you have a baby…
another baby. At 10-weeks the tiny human leaves the house to fend for herself, heads down south
looking for love, and the cycle begins anew.
If humans needed specific animal instincts to survive, it would be some version of that story.
My premise today is to show that what we call the spirit of God is as close to instinct as you can get.

New Style Human
Before I can get into this new human instinct let’s take a peek back at God’s new style human. This is
summarized from a teaching I once did called, “What’s a Christian Supposed to Look Like?”
“Over many thousands of years humans of varying genetic looks and capacities had covered much of
the planet and adapted well to their surroundings. After a few hundred thousand years of slow
change, God thought it was time for an upgrade. He wanted to set up the sapiens for long-term
success, eternal success.
God’s wanted His new style human to dominate his own life and surroundings and not be dominated
by them. The Creator also wanted this new style human to have easy access to Him, a deeper
connection, and the ability to be led to incredible health and abundance.
God did this by designing a whole new style of human. It was to look similar to the old style, carry the
same genetic material, but was to be upgraded with one special feature. This new style human would
be built on a platform of spirit that would function much like the instinct that had kept animals fed,
propagating, and protected for eons.
The first ingredient of God’s new style human was spirit, not body and soul. Spirit was to be the
chassis, the foundation, the foundation from which the rest of this new style human would be built.
The addition of spirit, which I am calling a new type of instinct, was the greatest design change since
opposable thumbs and walking upright.
Genesis 1:26-27 (KJV) 26And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over
the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over
every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. 27So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created
he them.
The image of God is spirit, love, and light so that is what this new style instinct is designed out
of…spirit, love, and light. (Jn 4:24; 1 Jn 4:16; 1 Jn 1:5).
I love how the first thing God rolled down the assembly line; the foundation of this new-style man, on
which everything else was to be built, is spirit. Our bodies, our minds, our genetics are all attached to
spirit and influenced by that thing called spirit; that “image of God.”

This image, this likeness to God, this thing I am calling instinct is spiritual, not physical. God is spirit.”
In that all life is spiritual, here’s a side thought -- I wonder if pure animal instinct is nothing more than a
simple type of spiritual connection to God. Think about it. Scientists can splice DNA with CRISPR-Cas9
technology but they cannot splice-in instinct; they don’t even have a clue where it lives in a cricket, or a bird,
or a dog. They have no idea yet this keeps them safe and fed for eons of time.
What has God done for his human? We will see that this image of God, this newly created type of spirit, will
be instinctual. It will make a lot of sense to you in a few minutes.
The spirit of God that you have in you is instinctual. IT will get you to do things for God that you would never
reason out on your own. I’ll explain.
New Humans Instinct
My goal today is to show you that this new human instinct, call it holy spirit, call it the image of God, will
cause you to live above the world, and get you in right place at the right time so that you can find your
promised health and abundance. I will also show you that this new style instinct is driven or ignited by a
specific personal environment that’s of your choosing.
The difference between an animal and human here is we can choose not to do what we instinctually should
do because we have reason. A bird, a robin, is not going to say in the fall I’m not going down south this year.
It’s not going to do it! A bird is not going to say that. A bear is not going to say I want to see what winter is
really like. I am not going to hibernate. Your dog is not going to get wet and say I decide I’m not going to
shake anymore. No, they have to; it’s in their genetics. They have to do that stuff.
You have spiritual genetics, but you can choose not to. That’s the difference. That’s where our enemy gets to
us is right at that point. If we can learn to tweak that, then we can have all abundance. We can have
dominion over our own lives and that’s what I want you to try to see with this teaching.
My ultimate goal today is to show you about a new style instinct that allows a person to be cared for like God
really wants to care for you. Imagine! What would life be like if you allowed yourself to be cared for exactly
like God would like you to be cared for? Do you think you’d have more than you have now? Do you think
you’d be healthier? Wealthier? Happier? I would say so.
He does it for all the animals and He can do it for us even better.

Matthew 6:26
Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your
heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?
Job 38 says that God provides prey for the young lions and nourishment for the ravens.
Luke 12:6 says that God never forgets even a tiny bird that is sold in the marketplace.
Genesis 9:15 speaks of the Creator making a covenant to care for not just Noah and the entire human
race, but God also made the same covenant with all animals on earth. That’s a pretty cool deal. Most
humans don’t believe that; all animals do. They can’t help it.
All baby zebras are born and stand up immediately with no one clapping or posting it on Facebook.
All spiders can spin an intricate web without ever taking a lesson. How?
All bears hibernate during the winter; they just do. They don’t know why they do it. They just feel sleepy and
they do it!
All leatherback turtles dig out of the sand and scamper as fast as they can for the ocean the moment they
hatch. How do they know to do that? How do they know which direction the ocean is? Instinct.
All dogs shake off water every time they get wet. Why? It’s instinct. They just do it. (And they never heard the
song that Taylor Swift did.) It’s built in. Instinct requires no training. Instinct is unique to the species.
A frog never says I think I’m going to fly south this winter. It don’t work! It doesn’t work!
Instinct is an unalterable tendency to make complex and specific responses to stimuli without involving
reason. Instinct requires a trigger event (hence winter or water on your dog or being born), a specific
environment to spontaneously engage.
Humans have a couple of little things. A baby, if you touch its cheek, what’s it going to do? It will turn toward
the touch because it wants to nurse and it automatically knows how to nurse. If you touch the palm of a
baby, what does it do? It always grabs what is put in its palm. It’s not that you’re so special even though it
makes you feel that way! It’s just instinct. Those are about the only two. There are reactions that people do
worldwide but those are things all babies do. They always have and if a baby doesn’t do that, it’s probably
going to die.
If humans had instinct, what would it be? What would it cause us to do? If we’re going to have something
better than all the animals on earth, what would our instinct cause us to do? Where would it cause us to go?
How much different would our life be if we automatically knew what to do in certain circumstances where
we just acted or reacted without any training or without any reason? I want to say, folks, you do sometimes.
You just know sometimes. You know that person is bad. Nobody has to tell you. You just know you need to
get out and do something or call a person or send a note or whatever.

I am going to show you that the benefits of instinct is exactly what the spirit of God can do for you. The spirit
of God acts very much like animal instinct except you can override it and they can’t.
Instinct Doesn’t Need to be Taught
When someone has the spirt of God, they do not need to be taught how to use it, they just know; it’s
instinctual. They can be taught how to live a nice ethical lifestyle, taught to serve humanity, taught to take
out the trash, but they do not need to be taught how to operate the spirit of God.
They can be taught to build an environment in which the gift can flourish but they do not need to be taught
how to operate the spirit of God.
I know that some of you right now are thinking this guy is nutty and you’re fighting me on this but you know, I
don’t care; whatareyougonnado? If you listen to what I’m saying, you’ll see that what I’m saying makes sense.
It makes more sense than you really realize. I will never convince the lovers of legal, the sultans of sin, and
the judgers of the just.
Those ministries who think you need to be taught “how” to operate the spirit of God are dead wrong.
Operating the spirit of God is as easy as instinct.
I have seen soft-bearded millennials with tasteful tattoos who worship with hands waving in the air do signs
miracles and wonders and they didn’t even go to the same church I do. How is that possible? I have seen
Anabaptists with slim, scarf-wearing women receive revelation. I have seen crazy eyed people who go to
storefront churches with blackened windows speak with incredible prophesy. Most amazingly, I have even
seen the groups who teach you must be taught how to walk by the spirit; I have seen them walk by the spirit.
Big church, little church, no church, God doesn’t care. Just set the environment and be ready.
I’m going to tell you an example that just happened a couple of days ago. I was on a sales call at a
business client’s office. After I did my little pitch with this guy, we had talked about Christianity and
he goes, “I feel like I need to pray for you.” I said, “Okay.” All of a sudden, he goes into this prayer
and he starts naming my siblings by name and their ailments. Then he started talking about my
business and the things that I was worried about in my business. Then he closes in the name of Jesus
Christ and that was it. I was like “holy moly”. I’m usually the one who prays for everybody. I hardly
ever get prayed for. Maybe you guys do in your own private time, but nobody usually puts their hand
on me and does that stuff.

This dude prayed by revelation and he named my brother by his first and last name. How would he
have known? Why would he have cared? This is a guy who goes to a black windowed storefront
church. Who knows!
You don’t have to do to some big fancy group. You don’t have to go to 14 classes to learn. My God, the
reason a Christian country is so far advanced from many of them is because there are so many Christian
people who are walking by spiritual instinct and they don’t even know it. They’re walking. They’re doing
things for God. They may not even know what the manifestation is and they still do a lot of it. They receive
word of knowledge, word of wisdom, they discern spirits, some of them do miracles and healing, all these
different things.
In the Old Testament days, once the spirit of kicked into action, things began to happen immediately. For the
most part, it is no different today; with a few exceptions.
Moses: Now Moses received some of the most incredible revelation later in life. It took Moses 40 years to
comply with God. It took him time to unlearn some things he’d learned in Egypt. One-time God told him that
the 70 elders were about to get the same type of spirit that he had. It was placed upon them all at the exact
same time and each of the 70 began to prophesy and did not stop. Two of those seventy were not at that
meeting and began to prophesy in the camp and people tried to get them to stop. They just kept speaking.
No matter how much they had wanted to prophesy before this event, they could not. Now it just came, with
no coaching (Numbers 11:24-29). At that time there were only a handful of people in Israel who had the spirit
of God. There were never a lot of people before Jesus Christ that had the spirit of God; just a handful. Think
spiritual conditional instinct.
Samson: When the spirit of the Lord came mightily upon Samson, he then did the incredible (Jud 14:6,19;
15:14). One time he killed a lion with his bare hands (that’s impressive); another time he caught 300 foxes
and tied their tails together (I’m not going to tell you why; how do you do that?); once he singlehandedly
killed 1,000 Philistine warriors just holding a jawbone of a donkey; and with that mighty spirit of God he
carried the entire fortified gate of a city, weighing maybe 4 tons, up Mt. Hebron about 37 miles away. The
strongest man in the world can’t pick up a ton much less 4 tons carrying it 37 miles (more than a marathon).
He just did it. When the spirit wasn’t energized, he wasn’t strong and he wasn’t powerful; he was just like any
other man. He wasn’t trained to do this stuff, there was not school for this. What can it do for you? What do
you need? Well, he had to be strong at that time. That’s what God required of him.
Saul: King Saul was told that when the spirit of the Lord will come upon him that he will prophesy and “be
turned into another man.” He was a different person with the spirit of God. He acted differently, he talked
differently, he thought differently. Did he have to train himself for that? No; it’s instinctual, folks. Samson

didn’t work out to where he could pick up 4 tons. We don’t have the genetics to do that. But spiritual
genetics trumps anything. Jesus couldn’t have walked on the water, but he did it and Peter did it for a
minute. Saul was also told that he will “do as the occasion demands; for God is with you” (1 Samuel 10:6-7
NKJV). What does your occasion demand of you? What do you need? Do you need to make more money? I
guarantee God’s screaming trying to get you to figure it out. But we’re so distracted of the things of the world
that we don’t listen. It has to be there; that job, that sale; it has to be there. Later in life, Saul could tell when
he no longer had that spirit of God, remember? He no longer had access to the spiritual instinct and was no
more powerful any regular man (1 Sam 16:14; 28:16).
Before the Day of Pentecost people could lose connection with the spiritual instinct. The cool thing about
being a Christian is we can’t lose it. You can turn it off, you cannot use it, but you cannot lose it anymore.
That means this world is full, there are millions and millions and millions and millions of people that
occasionally walk by the spirit. That’s why this world is as good as it is. It’s better now than it was 200 years
ago. It really is. It’s much better than 400-500 years ago where 1 out of every 6 men died in war. Now it’s less
than 1% worldwide. It seems like more because you watch the news.
Elisha wanted twice the amount of spirit that Elijah had and God honored his request. Elisha did 16 major
miracles in his life compared to only 8 for Elijah (2 Ki 2:9).
John the Baptist, the cousin of Jesus Christ, was the only man who had the spirit of God while he was still in
his mother’s womb. When Mary, the mother of Jesus, first found out she was pregnant with the Messiah, she
traveled to see her even more pregnant cousin, Elizabeth. When she arrived and they hugged, pregnant belly
to expectant belly, the spirit of God caused the baby John inside the womb to leap (Lk 1:40-41). The fetus
within Elizabeth didn’t need to be told he was in the presence of the Christ; he just knew it. Then Elizabeth
spontaneously broke into speaking by revelation for God, in her outside voice. Godly behavior was triggered
by the environment. Once she came close to Elizabeth, not only did Elizabeth prophesy, but the baby inside
her leaped. Pretty wild.
Jesus was given the spirit without measure; was given an unlimited portion of holy spirit (Jn 3:34). This was
exactly what Adam and Eve enjoyed in the garden and will be enjoyed by others in the future Paradise.
Luke 4:1
And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the
wilderness.
Jesus had managed to live perfectly his entire life without the help of the spirit of God for the better part of
thirty years. He lived perfectly, but he never lived powerfully. Until this point Jesus had never received

revelation, never did a miracle, but now he was being “led” by the spirit into the wilderness. Once he had his
baptism by his cousin John and he camped out at the water and said the spirit descended on him like as of a
dove. He was led by that spirit. He knew he had to. He felt like he had to migrate into the wilderness so to
speak because he had to be brought, it launched him, he had to get his ministry started.
In the Old Testament, only a handful of people had this incredible spirit of God. They were given a law to
control behavior. We’re not under the law anymore. Christians are supposed to be able to control themselves
by walking by the spirit and obeying the Word, of course. Today every single Christian has access to walk by
the spirit. This is why the world is as good as it is.
Before the spirit of God was introduced, man was barely out of the stone age; running around barefoot with
sharp sticks. With the spirit of God, there popped up agriculture, farming, metal tools, and musical
instruments (Gen 4).
What I want you to see is that when men and women have the spirit of God, they can do miraculous things
with music, with agriculture, with any type of work. They can be the best versions of themselves; they can
know things and say things that they did not know or say before. This is exactly how instinct works, folks.
If you think about it, those of you who speak in tongues, you just speak and what happens? The words come
out. Do you make up those words? No. So, would that be instinctual? Just think about it. Are you reasoning it
through? You’re deciding you want to do it, but you just do it; that’s instinct, folks; that’s spiritual instinct.
That’s the spirit of God. That’s how easy it is to receive revelation. When you interpret those tongues a
beautiful message from God is spoken. Did you think about every single word? No, it just comes out. So, what
would that be called? I’m just telling you this is very similar to instinct. The same is true with word of
prophesy, right? Beautiful words come out if you’ve ever heard it. It’s beautiful and that person didn’t plan
what they were going to say. How do you do that?
Did you know that it was almost 15 years after Pentecost that the first epistle, the first letter, was ever
passed from fellowship to fellowship? 15 years after the day of Pentecost. So, what did people do in their
fellowships? Just think, it was over twenty years before Paul penned Thessalonians and Hebrews and over 25
years before John wrote his epistles. It was 30 years before Corinthians was written. 30 years!
Read 1 Corinthians 12-14 and you will see how much weight was given to speaking in tongues, interpretation
of tongues, and prophesy. It’ll blow your minds. This is 30 years later and they’re still talking about it. Why?
For almost the first 30 years of the First Century Christian church, the word of prophesy from 1 Cor 14 drove
the meeting. Read it and you’ll see what I’m talking about. You want to know what they talked about? They

talked about what they just heard in a word of prophesy. You guys want to hear a word of prophesy? You
want to hear one?
Word of prophesy given:
I’m the Lord thy God and everything about you is something that is very familiar to me. I know every
detail of your life, my beautiful children. I want you to have everything you need and more. The world
conditions you to have lack but I provide everything you need so listen to me and walk my walk and
you shall see a great difference in your life. I want you to press the reset button, change the set point
on your believing, raise it and see what happens in your life. I want you to change the setpoint of your
happiness. Don’t listen to the world with negativity and provide that lack for you. Do it my way and
see great things come to pass in your life. For there is nothing that is secretive about me. I am pure, I
am truth, and I am light, and that is the walk I want you to have.
Did you make up any of those words? No. Did you have that all planned before you came here today? No.
You didn’t even know I was going to all on you, right? No. How do you do that stuff? How can somebody do
that stuff? I think it’s like spiritual instinct, folks. Any Christian can do it. In fact, Christians who don’t speak in
tongues or interpret and prophesy, that’s cool, it’s up to you, I don’t care; but the thing is you could if you
want to. But I guarantee you receive word of knowledge, word of wisdom, discerning of spirits, you believe,
you walk with healing at times. You do a lot of great things for God and with God and you don’t even know
you’re doing it. It’s so integrated into you. It’s just a part of you.
Like the bird doesn’t think, when’s that instinct going to kick in? Is it tomorrow? When do I fly south? It
doesn’t think that. It just does. When you walk by the spirit, you just do. You don’t have to be trained. You
can be trained how to live a lifestyle but you cannot be trained how to walk by the spirit of God because it’s
unique to you.
The Environmental Trigger
I have been talking a lot about comparing the spirit of God with instinct.
We all know that all instinct is driven by certain environmental factors. Many birds fly south for the winter; a
baby giraffe standing up almost immediately after birth; and nothing in the world would ever make us believe
that a creepy little caterpillar can spin a beautiful cocoon around itself and turn into a butterfly. You can’t
look at a caterpillar and say man, I see in that thing a beautiful butterfly. You can’t do it because they’re ugly;
well to most of you unless you’re an entomologist.
Look what God sees in us. What should we see in ourselves?
LIVE THE WORD & WALK WITH POWER!

THE NEW HUMAN INSTINCT

What is it that allows us to tap into this new human instinct, this spirit of God thing? Do we have any control
over it or is it just random? Is it totally up to God or is there something we can do to set up the environment
for success? A bird does not bring winter and then fly south because it wants to go south. Yet we can set up
an environment in our life that is conducive to the spirit of God operating more efficaciously and efficiently
and consistently in our lives. What is the impetus, what’s the impulse, what’s the trigger?
What takes us quickly through the metamorphic process from relying totally on reason to walking by the
spirit? It’s a transition. What takes us from that point? Remember Jesus kept telling his disciples oh you of
little faith. How come your believing is so small? It just blew his mind that people couldn’t believe like he did.
He marveled at their unbelief. He was just shocked that people couldn’t do the things that he did because he
believed so deeply in his mission and he believed so deeply in the spirit of God that he had. It just shocked
him.
Have you ever liked a sport and then when you talked to somebody and they hate it? You’re like what, how
could you hate hockey? Or whatever your sport is. How could you hate bicycling? There is nothing better.
Whatever it is, basketball, baseball, soccer.
Romans 12:2 (KJV)
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed [transfigured like that butterfly] by the
renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
You want to see it happen? You want to prove it works? You want to prove that the spirit of God works? Then
it takes something called renewing the mind. It means putting new thoughts in your mind, putting the right
thoughts, high quality thoughts, it means stacking one good thought on top of another.
If we talk to people the same way we talk to ourselves, we would have no friends. I think it’s time to change
that, folks.
Peter speaks of prophets asked and searched diligently about the time in which we live. He said that the holy
spirit we now have is so incredible that even the angels of God are leaning over, longing to know more about
what we have been given. What we have must be flat-out amazing, folks! (1 Peter 1:10-12)
I’ll tell you just how amazing this is. What we have is so big, so powerful, will bring us into such close contact
with the Creator that the Devil thinks it needs to be stopped.

1 Corinthians 2:8 (KJV)
Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the
Lord of glory.
The Devil would rather have dealt with the Christ himself than having to deal with Christ in all of us because
even if you’re not taught folks, even if a Christian is not taught, they are going to at times walk by the spirit
and that is hard work for el Diablo. Having to deal with us walking by the spirit as easy as an animal responds
to instinct is hard for him. That’s why he would rather have just one than have millions.
All the devil has to do is to get us to focus on different behaviors than the ones that inspire the spirit of God
to engage and he’s got us beat at that moment. He’s come to steal, kill, and destroy, right? Think about that.
He’s just trying to steal your thoughts so that you don’t think the way you should. He’s trying to destroy your
behavior system so that you can’t walk by the spirit and ultimately, he’d like to kill you so that you can’t. The
point is all he wants to do is stop us from walking by the spirit.
What is this mindset that builds the perfect nest for this spirit of God? We’ll get to something here in a
minute.
There are two lists of behaviors that caught my attention. I once thought of them as being results of walking
by the spirit, but now I think of them differently.
They are the fruit of the spirit in Galatians 5 and the additions to our belief system, our ethos, our identity in
2 Peter 1.
Because we are so familiar with the “fruit of the spirit”, I will start there.
This was written after Acts 19:20. The Christian church was going into demise at that point about 30 years
after the Day of Pentecost. The believers had begun to hate on each other and some were going back into the
legalism they had left three decades earlier. Some just wanted to party.
Like one minister that I knew. He was under my watch one time. I said, “Freddie, what are you doing?
You going to keep doing this fellowship?” He said, “I’m just going to get drunk, get laid, and build
Harleys.” So, he went back to partying.
Legalism is easier than freedom because someone else does the thinking for you. Do this. Do this or else. We
kick you out. We’re going to void you. We don’t want you around anymore if you don’t live the way that we

want you to live. I hate that stuff. I hate it with every part of me. Someone else has to hold you accountable;
that’s religion. We hold ourselves accountable; that’s true Christianity.
Throwing all restraint out the window is exactly as hard to do as religion because you’re doing what
everybody else wants you to do. Come on smoke this, drink this, do this, do this, feel this, all this kind of stuff.
It’s just the other side of religion. There’s no thinking necessary. If it feels good, do it. Isn’t that what they said
in the 70’s?
Freedom in Christ takes work, folks. This is building the nest. This is setting up your environment.
Galatians 5:16
This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
To “walk” is to do something.
Galatians 5:18
But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.
To be “led” is to follow. It still takes walking. You still have to do something. The word “led” is the same word
God uses when Jesus was “led” by the spirit into the wilderness.
As we are led by the spirit we are not under the law because we don’t need a law to direct our behavior.
Galatians 5:22-23
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
Nobody can make you do this stuff. What I’m telling you now, I used to believe this was the result of walking
by the spirit. I really believed that. Now I believe this is the behavior that we set so that we will operate that
spirit. We set the environment for that spirit and I’m going to prove it in a minute.
Nine mindsets, nine behaviors, nine lifestyles are listed.
The word “fruit” doesn’t mean fruit you see hanging on a vine or a tree. It means fruit that’s been plucked,
work had gone into the harvest, it’s already harvested fruit.

We decide to love, expecting nothing in return.
We decide to be temperate to maintain self-control. The spirit doesn’t make you have control
We decide to have faith, to maintain an identity, to have an ethos, a code of life. You decide. That’s all faith
is.
We decide to be good, peaceful, patient, cheerful, strong, gentle, and kind people. We work at it. It is not a
crop that just appears because we speak in tongues for 3 minutes. If it was only that easy? Oh, my word,
what a great world we’d be in.
Galatians 5:25
If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
You choose to live in it. You choose to walk in it.
Paul closes out this section by reminding us that if we choose to live in the spirit, we will need to walk, stay in
step, or keep up with the spirit. It means to keep rank with. You have to keep up. You have to keep up with
God. You have to keep up with where you are spiritually. Are you growing? We are in step with the spirit of
God as we live out those nine behaviors.
The next section that I will explain this environment of the heart concept in a totally different way. Peter
wrote this three years after Paul penned Galatians. You will see similarities and differences.
2 Peter 1:3 (KJV)
According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness,
through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
This power we have, this spiritual instinct we’ve been given, has given us all things that take you to the
destination of a God empowered life. That’s what that verse means.
What we’re about to talk about is how to get yourself to get to the point to have a god empowered life.
Imagine if God was in every aspect of your life. Would it be better? You’re all nodding.
The power we have, this spiritual influence is what we need.
2 Peter 1:4 (KJV)
Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be
partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

We are given exceeding, great, and precious promises so that we can partake in something called the divine
nature.
This “divine nature” caught my attention.
“Divine” means “godlike” and “nature” means lineal decent, native, or the word genus. We can partake of
these exceeding great things as we enjoy our godlike genetics, our spiritual instinct. How would you like to
see the exceeding great precious promises?
Beside this or for this very reason, with all speed, we now are asked to stack up eight things; one building on
the next; each one its own foundation. Don’t turn off yet, folks. These eight things are pretty important.
2 Peter 1:5-7 (KJV) 5And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; 6And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; 7And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.
Here are the 8 things Peter laid out in stacking order, like a kid stacking blocks, like an eight-story building,
one on top of the next–faith, virtue, knowledge, temperance, patience, godliness, brotherly kindness, and
charity in that order.
Those just sound like a list of religious words, but let’s take a closer look.
1) Faith is our ethos, our identity, our belief system. You have to have a belief system or you can’t go anywhere else. That’s your first foundation. Now, we stack on that…
2) Virtue is valor, it’s translated manliness, high moral character, or excellence. We stack on top of that… 3) Knowledge is to thoroughly understand, conduct, it is science. You understand it so well it’s just a science
to you. That’s how you want to get with your life and who you are and what you are in Christ and the Word that you do know. We stack on top of behavioral science, that is on top of excellent manners, that is built on our identity…
4) Temperance is simply self-control. We have a belief system and identity, we live excellently, we have made a science out of our behavior and now keep it all under control. Then we add the fifth story to our building; we add the fifth ingredient to our stew…
5) Patience is to endure with cheerfulness; happily content. We’ve all been in situations that really were not pleasant. You can choose to be miserable or you can choose to smile and just go. Remember the old saying grin and bear it. You just keep going. We endure by keeping ourselves cheerful, content, calm. Then we add to our calm cheerfulness...
6) Godliness is the polar opposite of religion. Bullinger calls this godliness a “true, vital, spiritual relationship with God.” Godliness is never outward religious rituals. It is the opposite of that. You’re just building the

inside of you, not the outside. You’re not trying to look godly. Just be godly. We become godly inwardly, not so much outwardly. “You do you;” you work on you and don’t blindly follow others. How could godliness not be at the top of the list? We are asked to add to godliness, add to practicing the presence of God with…
7) Brotherly kindness is brotherly love; reciprocated love; deep connective love. It was one of the highest forms of love for the Greeks. The first 6 were all about improving ourselves; all about connecting with God and keeping our heads together. Now we give of everything that we are to help others and they give back the best of themselves in return. We take what we have and give to another; that’s brotherly love. Then they reciprocate. That’s when it’s brotherly love. Now we add the final ingredient…
8) Charity is agape. Agape to the Greeks was not the love of God. Agape is love that requires no reciprocation; it expects nothing in return, it just gives. You take your stuff to the Good Will. You don’t expect them to give you anything for it do you? They give you a receipt, I guess, and a bottle of water.
We start with building our identity in Christ.
We build on top of our belief system with good morals.
We make a science out of what we learn from the Word.
We control ourselves all day long.
We are patient and cheerful with ourselves and others when we mess up and we’re going to mess up.
We build the inward beauty of the Christ in us, that godliness.
We build great and enduring relationships on top of that and avoid anyone who tries to control us with
religion.
We just love others without expecting anything in return.
2 Peter 1:8 (KJV)
For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful
in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
If Paul and Peter were modern rap artists the term never “unfruitful” is a tongue in cheek, mic-drop,
walk-away, and homage to Paul’s list of the nine fruit of the spirit in Galatians written three years prior.
How would you like to have a life that was never without fruit? If you do these eight things, you will always
have what you need. You’ll see the spirit of God kick into gear.
Peter is saying that if these things begin in us, under our watch, and they super abound in our lives, that we
will always have what we need in the season we need it; reaching all the way into and entering into the mind
of the Lord Jesus Christ. Just do a little word study. I’m thinking what!?

This is the house that best suits the Creator and His gift of holy spirit.
Like all instinctual behavior, this human instinct is only triggered by specific actions. If you take the ones I just
talked about, folks, you will have great advantage.
This new style human with this upgraded spiritual instinct is what transformed the world from the Stone Age
into the world that you now enjoy.
This is the trigger that sets our new human instincts into action.
God bless.
