    Greetings from Gombak

    Assalamualaikum and as the title

    stated, greetings from Gombak. My

name is Idlan Zahari and for those

who know me, knows that I was a

student from Kulliyah of Science. But

I wasnt just a student; I was alsosupposed to be the new Head of

    Public Relations and Information for

    SCIENCESS 2012/2013, which would

explain why I was given this

    opportunity to write for ERUDITION.

Its a shame, truly, that I could not

fulfil my role as the Head of PR and I

since I had so many plans and

    dreams for SCIENCESS. However, I

had to sacrifice these dreams for a

personal one. This personal dream of mine (which I

want to keep private) was the

reason why I transferred to Gombak

and now a student of Human

Science Department. I had to switch,

not because I could not handle the

    science subjects, but because I

    simply dont enjoy studying it

anymore. I dont think that I could

handle learning something I dontlove for another 3 years. I do

however enjoy being a student of

    KOS.

I missed a lot of things from KOS. I

missed how you are surrounded by a

great group of close friends from

your own batch in each class

(weirdly, this is not implemented in

    Gombak. Your classmates can be

    from different departments so you

have to make new friends always) orhow you dont have to rush forpre-

registration since you can always do

it when next semester comes. I

missed the great events that I would

no longer be a part of (I was in

    almost all the events last semester;

IBG, Taaruf Week, MOCIS, etc) and I

missed my friends at SCIENCESS who

I hope is and will be doing a great

job for KOS this year. But most of all, I

missed my life in Kuantan, beingsurrounded by my peers from Batch

Awesome and CTS 112 and anyone I

consider a friend. The fun things you

do. It will be hard to find something

similar to that here in Gombak.

I would like to apologize to those

who had counted on me for

    SCIENCESS and other societies in

Kuantan. I wished there was a way

for me to help out from Gombakand if there is, just call me. I might

not regret changing my course but I

do regret not being a part of

Kuantan anymore. I hope for the

best for all in Kuantan especially the

societies I was a part of; Faciteam,

PGG, Wawasan Club, Wackos and of

course, SCIENCESS. I also wished my

friends and students of Kuantan to

enjoy themselves and the best in this

world and hereafter . Hope to see

    you again.

    Missing Kuantan,

    Idlan

Sharing moment session with Bro Zack

    How do you know

    about IIUM in

    the first place?

It all started after I finished my

SPM. I really like biology but Idont want to be a doctor. So I

    called my counselor in my

    previous school and she advised

me to continue my studies in

    Biotechnology at IIUM. At that

    time, Biotechnology was

considered as a new field and a

new prospect so it actually suits

me. That was when I decided I

want to be a part of IIUM family.

    Wackos was actually an idea

initiated by one of my senior

    Sister Hidayati. She entered an

    Environmental Awareness

Campaign and had to come out

with an idea on how to increase

    environmental awareness

    among students.So she came out

with an idea to provide a

resource center so that they can

    insert the

    environmentalawareness among

    students in the resource

center. Turned out, she won the

competition and as the prize of

the winning, she had the chance

to make the idea come true.

    What is Wackos?

    How was life back

    then when you were

    a student?

I spent 2 years in Gombak and 2

years in Kuantan, so I really got

    the chance to experience the

    best of both worlds. IIUM

Gombak was livelier and hadbetter facilities while IIUM

Kuantan was still very new and

was lacking in term of facilities

    and staff.

    Despite the hardship we face

back then, our students werevery motivated and very

    independent. There were as if

    no batches and no difference

between junior and senior as we

    mingled with everyone.

Lucky for us that our relationship

with KOS staff was very great.

We receive a lot of support from

    our Dean, Head of Department,

and most of all our Assistant

    Director Brother Malik who was

    very supportive and very

    generous in term of grantingbudgets.

    What was your most

    precious memory with

    IIUM?

I miss all the fun and excitement

I had with all my friends

    andthe time we spent

    together was considered most

precious to me. And truth be

told, I really miss playing Futsal

with my friends at OSC parking

lot in the evening, before it was

    built.

    A little word of

    wisdom to thestudents

    My advice to all the

student is you should bemore proactive in the

    right direction. Appreciate

    your time and use it

    wisely. Undergraduate

    only come once in a

    lifetime. Last but not

    least, respect the your

    elder and love the

    younger.

I am a proud KOS product.

    So should you !

I tend to see cooking as art. I likethe idea of selecting different

    ingredients and putting them

    together to produce something

    beautiful. While this may sound

almost `mechanical', I say that the

work, like many things I enjoy doing in

life is really far from that. Like painting

(one of my other passions), I

    do believe beautiful things

    are results of passion, love

    and hard work with technical

    details taking a back seat.

    There's always something

    bland about being

    completely focused ontechnical perfection only,

which lacks romance in its luster. Now,

am I really good in cooking? Honesty,

I don't know. I just know I love to do

it. When my dish comes out as I like it,

then I'm the happiest fella in the

world. For the record though, as this

question was motivated somewhat bythe sciencess "masterchef

competition" last semester; I'd like to

say something on it. While technically

my team won, in truth, I thought that

some of the student teams produced

    extremely delicious dishes. Given

their young age and other challenges

faced on that day, with such

    wonderful food they prepared, I

honestly felt that they were really the

winners. I did not think my cooking

was much better than theirs. My only

    real personal triumph in that

    competition was to have

    managed the opportunity to

work with my dear friend Dr.

    Suryadi and produced

    something I was really happy

    with, though perhaps not

    any much more delicious

    than some of the other

    teams'.Thinking about it, in some

ways, I guess its the same reason why

I do scientific research; to be able to

    put together whatever little

knowledge I have of things to result in

a new scientific discovery. It may not

be much, it may not be groundbreaking science, but if its decent and

beautiful, then I'm happy to have

    been part of it.

Assalamualaikum and greetings I bid to you , the reader of Erudition . Before that , I want to

congratulate the new Erudition team for the comeback ! You guys totally nailed the promotion

through Fb and blog . I hope this brand new season is as hot as fire .

Now where are we ? Oh yes .The wacKOS . By now ,Im sure you guys have heard bout it . Its

like the basic knowledge of being a KOS student ,aint it ? You must be wondering where does

the word wacKOS came from . Let me tell you about it . It is actually came from the word wacky

+ KOS = wacKOS. Meaning to be a spot where you can relax after a day full of classes and mould

a better bonding in this kind of surrounding.

WacKOS is initially a students drive program that intended to form a lounge to provide a

leisure space for students activities. Thus, in preceding the idea, the group of students

presented their idea to Bayer Young Environmental Envoy (BYEE) and won the competition in

objective of environmental awareness. In realising the motives of building a students lounge

and promoting the environmental awareness campaign, the idea was carried into Maxis

Cyberlinq Competition in 2007 as a way to generate money. Through these achievements, the

money was used to improve the condition of the wacKOS. With a stable initial financial source,

the wacKOS is upgraded with several basic needs and facilities. Few couches, bookshelves,

books, journals and magazines were provided.

    13/25

    THE NEW ERUDITION 2013

    13 | P a g e

With that idea in our mind , We would like to continue their dream of seeing the wacKOS as the

prime center of students activities , in our own version . It is going to be a place where you can

do anything you want and express everything you feel there.A space to gather with your friends

    and make memories together.

I dont really want to kill the thrill , but I will tell you some of the improvisation we are planning

to do . In order to give you guys a chance to show your hidden talent , we will build a mini stage

near to the exit door . A mini caf is going to be established to accommodate it with hot and

cold water so you can make a drink whenever you want . A few exciting and more fantastic

games will be provided at the game area . As to induce a sense of sentimental value , we will

make the wacKOS as a gallery for us to recall back all the legacy and history we have made .

Hence when we came back after 10 years , we can reminisce back all the good and bad

memories . Some activities will also going to be held such as Open Day and Movie Night.Plus ,

the kiosk will be moved into the wacKOS too !

I guess thats allfor now people. I wont let anymore cat out from the bag. Just wait for the

surprise. What we really anticipate from this project is the support from you people of KOS .

We want all of us to see this project as the realization of a generation of students and a

reflection of values, upon what we are made of.We think this as a project that created by

students , for students . What a pleasure to be in team!Thank you Erudition for this opportunity

. It is an honoredto be the highlights of this new season.Brace yourself , the wacKOS project will

be the next magnet of revolution , a switch of changes for all of us !

    APPLICABLE PRACTICES OF

OUR PROPHETS EXAMPLE WHILSTRECEIVING GIFT FROM OTHERS.One day a non Muslim woman came

to Rasullullah SAW while he was witha few companions. The woman came

    with a couple of

    oranges as gift to

    Rasullullah. The fruits

    had a very appealing

    look which can attract

    anyone who set eyes

    upon them. RasullullahSAWgladly accepts the

    gift with a big smile.

    The strange thing was,

    Rasullullah SAW ate

    the fruit all by himself.

Slice by slice he ate all the oranges

and smile to the lady after every bite. Its very common that everytime

Rasullullah SAW receives a gift from

someone he would share it with his

companion and he never ate any

food all by himself. This strange

    behavior puzzled all the companion

and wonder why would The Prophet

    SAW behave as such?

After Rasullulah finished the last bit

of the oranges, the lady's excuse

    herself. The

    companion of

    Rasullulah SAW

    cannot contain their

    confusion anymore

    and ask Rasullullah

    why did he behave as

    such? Rasullullah

    replied Did you know

    that the when I take

    the first bite, the

    oranges that the lady

    gave me actually

tasted really sour. If I had shared it

with all of you, I fear that some of

you might tend to react negatively

and hurt the ladys feeling. Thats the

reason why I ate all of it alone.

    The strange thing

    was, Rasullullah SAW

    ate the fruit all by

    himself. Slice by

    slice he ate all the

    oranges and smile to

    the lady after every

    What a beautiful

    personality that our

    prophet had. He never

    belittled anyone givingeven though the

    oranges tasted awful

    but he kept his smile

    and ate all the oranges

    so he won't hurt her

    feelings. We can set

    this as an example in

our daily life. How many times did wereceive something from another

    person and thanked

    them or smile to

    them. Never should

we belittled anyonegift even though it

    was a very cheap gift

or an ugly one. It does

    not matter what they

    give. The act of giving,

    that matters. Not how

    much the gift cost

KATAKAN TIDAK PADA AKUTIDAKPEDULISMEBy : Anonymous

Bismillahirrahmanirrahim..Alhamdulillah atas nikmat Islam yang mampu kita

kecapi hingga hari ini. Jika bukan kerana titik peluh Baginda SAW, mana

mungkin Islam tersebar ke pelosok dunia. Jika bukan kerana hebatnya Baginda

kita rasa. Madinah; sebuah Negara Islam yang pertama, urusan politiknya

ditadbir berlandaskan Islam, permasalahan masyarakat diuruskan berlandaskan

Politik, pilihan raya, turun undi.

Jangan terlalu

ghairah dengan dunia akademik, dunia keseronokan remaja, dunia sweet 19,

sampai tidak cakna isu langsung. Malaysia tempat tumpah darah kita, maka

menjadi tanggungjawab bersama untuk kekalkan keharmonian tanpa mengira

    siapa kita.

Ayat yang selalu diungkapkan mahasiswa, "aku x minat sangat politik ni....

tunggu aku kerja nanti baru nak mengundi..... politik urusan orang dewasa, kita

jangan masuk campur.". Kalau rata-rata anak muda ada mind setting sebegini,

apa yang akan terjadi pada masa depan negara? Kelihatannya mungkin

seperti small matter.. x pa, aku ja tak mengundi, orang lain mengundi dah.

Kita semua inginkan kegemilangan

Islam dijulang, nak persekitaran Islam untuk diri kita, generasi bawah kita, tapi

apabila masuk bab politik, semua nak tolak tepi. Sedangkan melalui wasilah ini

sahajalah yang terbaik sekiranya kita nak rasai undang-undang Islam terlaksana

di Malaysia. Sudah cukup lama Malaysia ni beridentiti Negara Orang Islam,

bilakah masanya pula nak betul-betul jadi Negara Islam?

    Fikir-fikirkan dan selamat berubah~
