Hampton Roads Convention Center 6:30 PM We have participated in this local gathering of the National Day of Prayer each year since it began. This is not a political rally or a preaching fest, it is a time of worship and prayer. It is my dream that all of our churches would get on board with the 150 churches from our area that come together on this one night each year. It is such a powerful time and great testimony to the people on the Peninsula that God’s Church unites in our effort to grow God’s Kingdom in our area. Last year approximately 3,500 people attended. But our churches were not very well represented. Let’s change that this year! I hope to see you there. WHAT HAPPENED TO OUR CHURCH – WORKSHOP TUESDAY, JUNE 2 nd 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM PBA Resource Center I will be presenting a workshop based on my recently published book. This book was not meant to be read and put on the shelf, but rather as a tool to help churches make change. Participants will gain insight into why many churches are struggling today, along with practical options for the future of their church. The cost for the workshop is $15, which will include a copy of the book. This workshop is for pastors and laypeople who desire a healthy future for their church. On Sunday May 17, 3:00-4:30 PM Dr. John Herbst, Lecturer in Old Testament and Comparative Religions will speak on “Christianity and Islam in the Context of World Religions”. NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER THIS THURSDAY, MAY 7th!

Hampton Roads Convention Center 6:30 PM

We have participated in this local gathering of the National Day of Prayer each year since it began. This is not a political rally or a preaching fest, it is a time of worship and prayer. It is my dream that all of our churches would get on board with the 150 churches from our area that come together on this one night each year. It is such a powerful time and great testimony to the people on the Peninsula that God’s Church unites in our effort

to grow God’s Kingdom in our area. Last year approximately 3,500 people attended. But our churches were not very well represented. Let’s change that this year! I hope to see you there.

WHAT HAPPENED TO OUR CHURCH – WORKSHOP

TUESDAY, JUNE 2nd 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM

PBA Resource Center

I will be presenting a workshop based on my recently published book. This book was not meant to be read and put on the shelf, but rather as a tool to help churches make change. Participants will gain insight into why many churches are struggling

today, along with practical options for the future of their church. The cost for the workshop is $15, which will include a copy of the book. This workshop is for pastors and laypeople who desire a healthy future for their church.

Islam, Christianity, World Affairs and Us An opportunity to learn, ask, and engage in conversation

A special Forum at Grace Episcopal Church, Yorktown, Virginia. On Sunday May 17, 3:00-4:30 PM Dr. John Herbst, Lecturer in Old Testament and Comparative Religions will speak on “Christianity and Islam in the Context of World Religions”. John is a member of First Baptist Church of Newport News. This will be an excellent opportunity to learn about the Islamic faith from the perspective of a Christian scholar.

PASTOR'S FELLOWSHIP BOWLING DAY THURSDAY, MAY 21st

11 AM What would it look like to see a bunch of pastors, most of whom haven’t bowled in years (if ever), engaged in a battle on the lanes of the local bowling alley? We think it is worth finding out! We will meet at York Lanes, 4200 George Washington Memorial Hwy in Grafton on that morning for the first annual Pastor’s Fellowship Bowling Day. There will be prizes for best bowling shirt, and for high scores in amateur and experienced bowler categories. No experience necessary. Come have a couple of hours of fun with other pastors. Cost for bowling is free, you just have to pay for your lunch. Please let us know if you plan on coming, rsvp at [email protected].

NATURALLY SUPERNATURAL CONFERENCE MAY 28TH -30TH

FREEDOM LIFE CHURCH

Have you realized that you believe in all the supernatural gifts described in the Bible but have never had someone teach you how to experience them? Have you been trying to find the right words to communicate about operating in the supernatural in way that doesn't freak people out and scare them away? Then the Naturally Supernatural Conference is just for you! When I read the book of Acts and consider how God has empowered His followers to supernaturally reach the world, I cannot ignore the need to teach these things to our congregation. Honestly, it has been a real struggle to find the language to do this in our context, and we have only recently landed on the term "Naturally Supernatural". It is our hope to empower believers to realize that God supernaturally equips us to operate in a naturally captivating expression of His love, so that others may come to know Him personally. Experiencing the supernatural things of God doesn't have to be spooky! If you can relate to this, prayerfully consider signing up for the conference that will be hosted at Freedom Life Church on May 28-30th, 2015. We have limited the conference to 100 people to maximize the impact. We will be taught by a team led by Chad Norris, Pastor of Bridgeway Church in South Carolina, and author of the book, "Signs, Wonders, and a Baptist Preacher". For all the info go to the registration link below. Or feel free to email me with any questions. There are still about 50 seats left. https://www.eventbrite.com/e/naturally-supernatural-workshop-tickets-14753348663 Freddy Villarreal Senior Pastor Freedom Life Church

LEADERSHIP CHANGES IN CHURCHES

On Sunday, April 26th, Tony Neal celebrated the beginning of his retirement. Tony steps down from pastoring Walnut Hills Baptist Church for the past nine years. Tony and his wife Danner will be dedicating much time to family during this new chapter in their lives. We wish them the best!

On Sunday, May 3rd, Daniel Willson led his first worship service at Williamsburg Baptist Church. Daniel and his wife Wendy come to us from Martinsville, VA where he served on the staff of First Baptist Church in that city. We welcome Daniel, Wendy and their four children to the PBA! Randy McCullum has accepted the call from Fairfields

Baptist Church in Burgess VA to become their pastor. Since stepping down as Associate Pastor for Youth at First Baptist Church of Newport News, Randy has

kept busy doing supply preaching around the region. We are not excited about losing him from the PBA, but we wish Randy and Theda all the best in this new

ministry chapter.
