Financial aid opportunities at Missouri Military Academy continue to grow, thanks to the increased amount of funds made available for the next school year.

Forty MMA families have already been awarded more than $275,000 in financial aid, scholarships and loans for the 2006-2007 school year.

Mrs. Kathy Diederich, director of financial aid, reported that although many applications have been received to date, MMA is still accept-ing applications from qualified applicants.

The families of both new students and returning cadets are encouraged to apply as soon as possible, in order to ensure adequate funding.

Applications for financial aid, based on a family’s finan-cial status; scholarships, based on accrued grade-point aver-ages for high school students; and loans for returning high school students are available.

Contact Mrs. Diederich at 1-573-581-1776, extension 227, for assistance. Information is also available on MMA’s web-site, www.mma-cadet.org.

Everyone benefits from your donation to MMA“From the Director’s Chair”By Lt. Col. Paul Gillette, ’70

MMA Directorof Institutional Advancement

* * *When I accepted the gavel

as president of the Missouri Military Academy Alumni Asso-ciation during the Homecoming Dinner Dance in 1993, I spoke of a dream that we would one day establish a viable Alumni Scholarship Fund.

Why? Because, I believe that our loyal alumni and their families deserve the recognition that they, their legacy and their sons are important to MMA; because I have seen so many of

my alumni peers show interest in sending their sons to MMA, but lack funds to fully finance the effort; and because it’s the right thing to do!

I am very excited to announce that the Alumni Scholarship Fund is starting to grow very nicely. Fueled by bequests, memorials, silent auc-tions and the purchase of Senior Walk bricks, we, as an alumni group, have added $308,000 to the fund.

Who benefits?“Legacy sons and grand-

sons” of alumni benefit.MMA benefits in know-

ing that alumni are so proud of their alma mater, the education provided and the life lessons learned as a cadet that they wish for their own son or grandson to gain the same advantages.

A well-deserving boy ben-

efits by getting a head start on life!

How can you, as a loyal MMA alumnus, help?

Buy a brick for yourself, a deceased classmate, or perhaps a beloved faculty member.

Join the ever-growing ranks of the Heritage Club, an honor roll of alumni, families and friends who have included Mis-souri Military Academy in their estate planning.

Make a cash contribution to the alumni scholarship fund or any of the other scholarship funds.

Who benefits?

In the long run, we all benefit. We benefit in knowing that sons and grandsons of our brother alumni will have the same opportunities offered to us.

We benefit in gaining a warm sense of satisfaction in knowing we have passed the mantle of leadership to a new generation of cadets. We ben-efit in a time when many other academies have failed finan-cially while our proud Academy stands strong ... ready to face another 117 years of “Leading the way to Success!”

Capt. Mark L. Elwood, Missouri Military Academy director of information and publications, is seeking the cooperation and assis-tance of MMA cadets, parents and alumni in a scrapbook project to monitor newspapers’ use of publicity releases from the Academy.

“We are trying to gauge how many hometown newspapers are using our releases to report on activities and cadet awards at Mis-souri Military Academy,” said Capt. Elwood. “We are interested in what information the papers are using so we can improve our pub-licity and communicate with those publications more effectively.”

Parents and alumni are encouraged to assist in the project by sending clips or photocopies of clips involving MMA, its cadets, alumni or faculty to Capt. Elwood at Missouri Military Academy, 204 N. Grand Ave., Mexico, Mo. 65265; or e-mailing scans of the stories to him at [email protected].
