Stephens president lauds MMA ‘launching pad’

Detmer, Rosales top list of award winnersValedictorian Eric Detmer of

Rushville, Ill., led a class of 46 seniors at the Missouri Military Academy fi nal awards and Com-mencement ceremony Sunday, May 28, in Centennial Gymtorium.

Detmer received the Dr. James C. Olson Award for the senior with the highest academic average and the MMA plaque for the highest scholastic average from Maj. Frank

est scholarship in the other grades were freshman Jared Sullivan of O’Fallon, Ill.; sophomore Alex Blum of Houston, Texas; and junior Alex Cheng of Chicago, Ill. Cheng also won the Fritsch Plaque and $975 stipend for academic excel-lence, discipline, honor and service to MMA.

Senior class president Jose Rosales of Puebla, Mexico, was awarded the Lt. Gov. Joe Maxwell Community Service Award. Rosales was also presented the Most Ver-satile Cadet Plaque by Col. Ronald Kelly, Academy president.

Senior Battalion Commander Adam Harralson of Lexington, Ky., received the $5,000 Howard and Karen Wegman Scholarship

for use in funding college entrance. Harralson also won the Col. Sidney Kersey Posture Trophy and the Col. Jerome G. Harris Cup for showing soldierly qualities.

Senior Chris Marcione of Boulder, Colo., commander of the 2006 Honor Company, Echo, was awarded the Col. Veon McConnell Trophy as the offi cer performing his duties most vigilantly.

The Aztec Warrior Chief Award for positive international relations was co-awarded to senior Tyler Pascoe of St. Charles, Mo., and junior Jacob Musick of Decatur, Ill.

Senior Kasey Turnbull of Castle Rock, Colo., won the Jack Meyers, ‘39, Memorial Cup for Most Cre-ative Cadet.

Matthew Graves of Jackson, Tenn., earned the Richard Cooper Plaque for the senior with the lon-gest tenure at MMA -- seven years.

The Dorsey Anderson, ‘95, Cup for the cadet exhibiting a gentle-manly example went to senior Luis Carrillo of Chula Vista, Calif.

Dr. Wendy Libby, presi-dent of Stephens College in Columbia, Mo., told more than 500 people in attendance at the Missouri Military Academy 2006 Graduation Exercises that her four-year women’s college and the all-male mili-tary boarding school actually had a great deal in common.

“We are both small, pri-vate and single gender in our enrollment,” she told MMA’s 117th Corps of Cadets, families, faculty, alumni and friends. “We are training grounds and launching pads for instilling in our graduates an understanding of the inter-relatedness of the world and all the cultures that form our global community.”

MMA graduated 46 seniors and promoted 28 eighth-grad-ers from MMA Middle School to the High School on May 28 at Centennial Gymtorium.

Libby told the audience that her “pearl of wisdom” for the cadets was that “You never

She concluded by shar-ing the 10 ideals Stephens attempts to instill in its stu-dents, and suggesting the MMA cadets would use those gifts well – respect, courage and persistence, independence, support for others, sensitivity, responsibility, belief in self, creativity, intelligence and leadership.

Dr. Libby became the 23rd president of Stephens in July 2003, and put forth a strategic planning initiative which has the school enrollment on the increase and several new pro-grams instituted.

The MMA Parents-Alumni Committee presented the Academy with a check for more than $481,000. (Seestory, Page 8.)

Col. Ronald Kelly announced that MMA had been named a JROTC Honor School with Distinction for the 35th time after results of Formal Inspection in April.

All 46 MMA seniors were accepted to at least one college or university, and 15 received scholarships.

MMA summercamps beginon July 9

The annual MMA Con-fi dence Camp and Leader-ship Camp will be held July 9-15 and July 9-22, respec-tively, and will be directed by MMA Middle School Commandant Maj. Mark Vaughan. The Confi dence Camp is for boys ages 8-11, and the Leadership Camp is for boys ages 12-16.

Youths who come to the MMA camps will participate in a wide variety of activi-ties, including horseback riding, paintball, rappelling, obstacle courses, adventure training, camping, boating, military leadership training, swimming, target shooting and more.

Two MMA instructors were honored at the 117th MMA Graduation on May 28 in Centennial Gymtorium.

Maj. Joe Ableman received the Abbott-Albright Award for Excellence in Teaching, which carried a $1,500 stipend from MMA Board of Visitors Chairman Emeritus Bob Albright, ‘49, for use by Ableman for equipment or reference materials. The award is co-named for Richard Abbott, ‘49.

Lt. Col. Ron Rosendahl, who has retired after 31 years at the Academy, received the Heimos Trophy for a staff member voted by other faculty members to have done the most for the boys during the school year. Rosen-dahl is MMA Troop 39 Scoutmaster, swimming coach and science teacher.

A special reception was held Sunday, May 21, at 1 p.m. in Stribling Hall for eight Missouri Military Academy employees who were honored for service to the Academy.

The reception also honored longtime MMA science teacher, Scoutmas-ter, swimming coach and former athletic director Lt. Col. Ron Rosendahl, who retired from the Academy at the end of the school year. Lt. Col. Rosendahl was with the Academy for 31 years.

MMA admissions staff traveling extensivelyThe Missouri Military Academy

Admissions Department staff is traveling extensively this summer, visiting with prospective cadets for the 2006-07 school year, according to Maj. Dennis Diederich, director of admissions.

“We hope to meet with as many prospective cadets and their parents as possible this summer,,” said Maj.

Diederich. “We have information and admissions packets available by mail and online.”

Capt. Sam Blair, ‘94, director of international relations, traveled in Mexico, June 11-23. He will be in Indiana, Ohio and Michigan, July 10-13; and in Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas, July 28-Aug. 5.

Shoemaker will host an open house in Northwest Arkansas on June 24. Maj. Diederich also traveled in Kansas, Colorado and Nebraska, June 15-20.

Capt. Shoemaker is scheduled in California, Arizona, Nevada, Wash-ington and Oregon, July 10-21; and in Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota and Wis-consin, July 27-31. He traveled in

Texas and Oklahoma, June 9-16.Lt. Shari Delp will be traveling in

Camps keep MMA campus bustlingMissouri Military Academy will host seven summer

camps from June through August, according to Execu-tive Officer Lt. Col. James E. Medley.

The annual MMA Confidence Camp and Leadership Camp will be held July 9-15 and July 9-22, respectively, and will be directed by MMA Middle School Comman-dant Maj. Mark Vaughan. (See story on Page 1.)

A Special Olympics camp will be on campus June 17-23, and Aquinas Academy will be having its aca-demics camp at MMA, June 25-30.

There will be a taekwondo camp on campus July 28-30.

MMA’s fall sports camps will bring cadets who intend to participate in football, soccer, swimming and cross country to the campus on Aug. 24, and a leader-ship camp will start Aug. 30 for cadet leaders in the 2006-07 school year.

MMA has already hosted the Miss Missouri Pag-eant, June 3-11, and the Granby wrestling camp, June 11-15.

Company commander designations went to Master Sgt. Alex Cheng of Chicago, Ill., Echo

Company; Sgt. 1st Class Adrian Martinez of Ciudad Victoria, Mexico, Delta Company; and Sgt. 1st Class Israel Avelar of Mexico City, Mexico, Charlie Company.

Cadet Sgt. 1st Class Nick Fajen of Lufkin, Texas, was named battalion adjutant.

The remaining four staff positions will be announced at the beginning of the school year.

On June 5, Missouri Military Academy High School Commandant Lt. Col. James E. Medley announced the final 2005-06 winners of the Maroon Bar for discipline.

Sophomore Jake Miller earned the Maroon Bar and eight stars for having no demerits over a nine-month period.

Sophomore Rene Zuazua earned the Maroon

Bar and four stars, and sophomore Alan Ortega earned the Maroon Bar and three stars.

For having no demerits in May, Jona-than Avelar, Thomas Clubb, Jun Hyuck Choi, Giuseppe Poletti and Erich Sullivan earned the Maroon Bar.

Winners having no demerits for two months were Giorgio Bonadiman and Young Hee Kim.

Special year-end awards were presented in Centennial Gymtorium during the Missouri Military Acad-emy High School Final Assembly on Saturday, May 27.

Senior Class President Jose Rosales of Puebla, Mexico, was awarded the Sen. Christopher S. Bond Award for most effective Cadet Council member by Acad-emy President Col. Ronald Kelly.

Alumni Association President Ellis Cokes, ‘51, of Hot Springs, Ark., presented the Alumni Plaque to class valedictorian Eric Detmer of Rushville, Ill., as the senior voted by his classmates as “most likely to succeed.” The Sen. John Danforth Plaque for outstanding knowledge of constitutional gov-ernment also went to Detmer, as did the Elmer Bohm, ‘13, Medal for a graduating senior athlete with the highest scholastic average.

Maj. Frank Giuseffi, director of studies, presented the battalion spelling champion trophy to senior Zach Rodgers of Alton, Ill. Echo was the company winner.

Senior Evan Hollowell of North Little Rock, Ark., won the David Whitney, ‘54, Conservation Plaque. Hollowell also received the Military Officers Association of America Medal for character, loy-alty and exceptional leadership.

The Sen. Thomas F. Eagleton Plaque for excellence in senior English went to Kyle Rober of St. Louis, Mo. The Eagleton junior plaque went to Giuseppe Poletti of Vigevano, Italy, battalion com-mander designate. The U.S. Army Recruiting Command Award for a junior showing outstanding leader-ship traits also went to Poletti.

The Maj. William Bryan Essay Medal for excellence in essay writ-ing winner was senior Mike Lee of St. Charles, Mo. Lee also won the Babe Ruth Sportsmanship athletics award.

The Science Plaque for the sophomore excelling in biology went to Giorgio Bonadiman of Padova, Italy.

The Sophomore Pilgrimage Award of the Mexico Chapter of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs was presented to sophomore Hugh Carnahan of Nixa, Mo., based on outstanding leadership and citizenship.

The McDonough Trophy for best 120-pound athlete was awarded to junior Jose Flores by Capt. Brian Case, director of athlet-ics.

The Joe D. Bailey Award for most dedicated varsity athlete was awarded to senior Tyler Pascoe of St. Charles, Mo. Pascoe also received the Best Athlete Award.

Lt. Col. Ireland awarded the Military Order of World Wars Award for a junior show-ing improvement in military and scholastic study to Glen Weaver of Aurora, Ill., and the Association of United States Army Medal for Determined Leadership to senior Anuar Duayhe of Mexico City, Mexico.

The Sons of the American Rev-olution Medal went to junior Woo Jai Jang of Asan City, South Korea, and the Daughters of the American Revolution ROTC Leadership Medal was presented to senior Michael Breedlove of Lisle, Ill. The DAR History Medal went to sopho-more Thomas Mennemeyer of St. Louis, Mo.

The Class of 1968 Freshman Leadership Award winner was Dennis Newman of Climax, Mich., and the Richard Hall Memorial Award for an underclassman exem-plifying a true gentleman went to sophomore Rene Zuazua of Garza Garcia, Mexico.

Col. Dana Reynard, band-master, presented the Lt. Col. E.R. Jackson Music Award to senior drum major Kasey Turn-bull of Castle Rock, Colo., for distinguished service to the MMA music program. The Jeff Crain/Jeff Jorishie Award for outstand-ing Jazz Ensemble member also went to Turnbull, and Battalion Commander Adam Harralson of Lexington, Ky., was presented the Louis White Virtuoso Award for the second time.

The Curt Milburn Memorial Bugler Award went to Carnahan, and the Plaque for Excellence in Music was presented to sophomore pianist Won Seok Oh of Gang-namgu, South Korea.

Senior Drew Petty of Tipton, Mo., captured the Sousa Award for Outstanding Contribution to Band, and the Col. Paul F. Cherches Memorial Award as outstanding band member, and received the Amvets Medal for Diligence in Performance of Duty.

The Pearl Green Whitney Memorial Journalism Award was presented to Chris Marcione, a senior from Boulder, Colo., by Capt. Mark L. Elwood, director of information and publications. The Lyle C. Wilson, ‘17, Scroll for Journalism was won by Duayhe, who had the most bylined stories and other entries in “The Eagle” for 2005-06.

Capt. Marijo Lagemann pre-sented the Art Achievement Award to sophomore Javier Guevara of Izucar de Matamoros, Mexico. Guevara also won the Eugene Lamm Memorial Award as the most improved student of English as a second language.

The Creative Art Award winner was junior Alex Cheng of Chicago, Ill., who also won the American Legion Scholastic Excellence Award for Leadership.

Echo Company was presented the Capt. Thomas R. Wiles Trophy for best company spirit, and the M Club Trophy went to Charlie Company, which also won the Best Athletic Record award.

Seniors earn more than $580,000 in scholarships, grants

Sullivan wins Fry Speech Contest

Fifteen Missouri Military Academy senior cadets have been awarded more than $581,000 in college scholarships through early June, according to Capt. Will Walker, director of college place-ment.

Erich Sullivan of Underhill, Vt., received scholarships totaling $37,092 to Norwich University and a $14,000 incen-tive grant to Valley Forge Junior College.

Jonathan Kyle Rober of St. Louis, Mo., was the MMA Honor School Nomi-nee and was appointed to the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo. His Air Force scholarship

is valued at $184,265 over the full four years.

Rober also earned a $2,000 Bright Flight Scholarship from the state of Mis-souri for scoring more than 30 on the ACT test.

Shale Houston, of Town and Country, Mo., can choose between $48,000 over four years to attend Norwich University, or a $2,250 grant for the first year at Vir-ginia Military Institute.

Drew Petty, of Tipton, Mo., earned $56,928 in scholarships to Norwich Uni-versity; a $2,000 scholarship for the first year at Central Missouri State University;

or $35,250 to Texas A&M University.Gilberto Garcia III of Mission, Texas,

received a $16,000 Chaminade grant for four years at St. Mary’s University of San Antonio, Texas, and a $4,000 scholarship to the University of the Incarnate Word, also in San Antonio.

Zach Rodgers of Alton, Ill., won a $36,000 four-year scholarship to Buena Vista University in Iowa, and a $24,400 award for four years at Benedictine Uni-versity in Illinois.

Anuar Duayhe, of Mexico City, Mexico, earned a $26,000 President’s Scholarship to St. Mary’s University in

San Antonio.Tyler Pascoe, of St. Charles, Mo.,

won a $24,000 scholarship package to MacMurray College.

Adam Harralson received a four-year U.S. Army ROTC scholarship to the col-lege of his choice.

Other seniors receiving scholarships include Eric Detmer of Rushville, Ill.; Derek Depke of Clayton, Mo.; Bryan Edmonds of Quincy, Ill.; Stratton King of St. Louis, Mo.; Michael Breedlove of Lisle, Ill.; and Shawn Mueller of St. Louis, Mo.

The president of the Mis-souri Military Academy Alumni Association advised graduating cadets to “be here.”

“Make every day count. Give back the contribution that MMA has provided for you,” said Ellis Cokes, ‘51, of Hot Springs, Ark., as keynote speaker at the MMA Senior Banquet on May 3.

“Let the MMA experience help you become the person you were meant to be, and as a senior class, add to the legacy the Academy has been building for 117 years,” he emphasized.

The former U.S. Air Force officer and entrepreneur advised maintaining a sense of humor.

“There’s not a day that goes by that I haven’t shared a laugh

or smile with a friend or col-league. When you keep your sense of humor, you also keep your balance. Have some fun,” he said.

Lt. Col. Paul Gillette, ‘70, director of institutional advance-ment, and Cokes, ‘51, presented memberships in the MMA Alumni Association to the 46 members of the Class of 2006.

“Your life of service is just beginning,” Lt. Col. Gillette said.

Class President Jose Rosales led the audience in toasts and Battalion Commander Adam Harralson read the class chroni-cle. Other class officers include John Bassett, Anuar Duayhe, Guillermo Avelar and Kyle Rober.

Missouri Military Academy freshman Jared Sullivan and sophomore Hugh Carnahan were the big winners at the 74th annual W. Wallace Fry Jr. Public Speaking Contest on May 26, in Centen-nial Gymtorium.

Sullivan, of O’Fallon, Ill., won the Wallace Fry Cup for his speech on “Lost Opportunity: The United States’ Hesita-tion Concerning Stem Cell Research.”

Sullivan was one of seven finalists from the entire MMA Corps of Cadets. Each cadet prepared a position paper and gave a speech. All entries were narrowed down to a group of semifinalists from among whom the seven speakers May 26 were selected by a panel of MMA fac-ulty members.

Speeches were judged on presenta-tion, content and aptness of thought process by judges Randall P. Baker, an attorney with the former Fry law firm; Ron Freiburghaus, executive director for development at Westminster College in Fulton and a member of the MMA Board

of Visitors; and Vincent Fuemmeler, president of the Mexico Area Chamber of Commerce.

Freiburghaus presented the Winston Churchill Memorial Award to the Fry contest runner-up, Carnahan. The Nixa, Mo., resident spoke on “China and its Effect on the Global Economy.”

Senior Mike Lee of St. Charles, Mo., placed third for his speech on “The Hor-rendous Facts Behind Legalizing Mari-juana.”

Rounding out the finalists were junior Alex Bozarth of Scottsdale, Ariz., who spoke on “The Evil Behind the Mask of Freedom;” senior Matt Bur-rier of Tomball, Texas, whose speech was entitled “Foreign Aid: Promises Unkept;” sophomore Thomas Menne-meyer of St. Louis, Mo., whose topic was “Steroids: Bulk up and Spiral Down;” and sophomore Jake Miller of Tulsa, Okla., whose speech was “Fight-ing Terrorism: The Policies of an Uncon-ventional War.”

More than 400 parents, friends, alumni and family members attended the first event of the 117th MMA Com-mencement activities. The MMA Jazz

Band provided entertainment before the program and during intermission under the direction of Col. Dana Reynard, MMA bandmaster and director of music.

Spring sports athletes are honored at banquet

Financial aid opportunities at Missouri Military Academy continue to grow, thanks to the increased amount of funds made available for the next school year.

Forty MMA families have already been awarded more than $275,000 in financial aid, scholarships and loans for the 2006-2007 school year.

Mrs. Kathy Diederich, director of financial aid, reported that although many applications have been received to date, MMA is still accept-ing applications from qualified applicants.

The families of both new students and returning cadets are encouraged to apply as soon as possible, in order to ensure adequate funding.

Applications for financial aid, based on a family’s finan-cial status; scholarships, based on accrued grade-point aver-ages for high school students; and loans for returning high school students are available.

On behalf of the Parents-Alumni Committee, more than $481,000 was presented to Missouri Military Academy by P-A Committee co-chairs Michael and Susan Bozarth of Scottsdale, Ariz., during grad-uation exercises Sunday, May 28, at Centennial Gymtorium.

The Bozarths made the presentation to Academy President Ronald Kelly. The money included more than $8,300 raised by the Class of 2006 and more than $243,000 designated for endowed schol-arships at the Academy.

“We’re very excited to have so many projects funded through this donation,” said Lt. Col. Gillette, ‘70, director of institutional advancement. “We appreciate each donor’s gift.”

More than 423 donors were listed through early June, and 211 of those were MMA alumni, said Lt. Col. Gillette.

Among the projects funded were:

-- smartboards for the MMA computer systems.

-- upgrades to the school computer network.

-- Middle School recre-ation room upgrades, includ-ing two game tables and chairs, a new air hockey table and recovering the pool table in Bravo barracks.

Cruise will benefit MMA Alumni AssociationThe first Missouri Military Academy Alumni Ed

Tour is being planned for February 2007, and Chris Yoest, ‘77, is planning a week of fun for those inter-ested in a luxury Caribbean cruise.

Cruise Planners set up a Carnival Cruise Lines six-night event for Feb. 24-March 2, which will benefit the MMA Alumni Scholarship Fund.

Participants will sail on the Carnival Liberty, the newest and largest ship in the Carnival fleet. They will embark at Fort Lauderdale, Port Everglades,

on Sunday afternoon, Feb. 25, and sail to Freeport, Bahamas, for a day of shopping and sightseeing on Monday.

On Wednesday the group will arrive at Grand Cayman Island, and the destination Thursday will be Costa Maya, Mexico. Travelers will return to their Florida departure point on Saturday morning, March 2.

Cruise only rates are $650 a person for inside staterooms, $750 for ocean view rooms and $895 per

Events planned for MMA Homecoming 2006Missouri Military Academy Home-

coming 2006 will be held Sept. 29-30 and Oct. 1, according to Lt. Col. Paul Gillette, ‘70, director of institutional advancement.

“The honor classes this year will end with 1 and 6,” said Lt. Col. Gillette.

Those classes include 1936, 1941, 1946, 1951, 1956, 1961, 1966, 1971, 1976, 1981, 1986, 1991, 1996 and 2001.

Plans are in the works to honor alumni for distinguished service to the Academy during the Homecoming Con-vocation.

Helping coordinate the event are class agents representing the honor classes, including Dick Baran, ‘56; Ellis Cokes, ‘51; and Raymond “Dude” Stot-lar, ‘71. Agents are being sought to repre-sent the other honor classes.

The annual dinner-dance will have a western theme, and costume attire is encouraged, said Lt. Col. Gillette. The event will be held from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday at the Mexico Elks Lodge 919.

The Homecoming football game will be played at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, at Colonels Field against Brentwood High

School of St. Louis, Mo., under new MMA coach and athletic director Capt. Brian Maher.

Other regular Homecoming activities include the golf scramble and luncheon, beginning at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 29, at Arthur Hills Golf Course. A barbecue to recognize the Golden Anniversary Class of 1956 will start at 6 p.m. at Mismilaca.

Registration will be from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Friday in Stribling Hall, and again from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday. All alumni must register and pay dues to attend.

Alumni Association wives will judge barracks Homecoming decorations at 9 a.m. Saturday, and the Fusileers preci-sion drill team will perform at 9:30 in the MMA Fieldhouse.

A battalion review for the honor classes will begin at 10 a.m. on Colonels Field, followed by alumni drilldowns. An alumni awards convocation will start at 11:15 a.m. in Centennial Gymtorium.

On Sunday, Oct. 1, a battalion review with cadet awards will be held at 1:40 p.m., and vespers will be at 6:30 p.m. in Memorial Chapel.

The 1889 Society Of the Academy’s Distinguished Donor Clubs, the 1889 Society is among the most prestigious. Membership honors those “who, through their extraordinary philan-

thropy, have contributed measurably to the growth and glory of MMA.”

Robert C. Epple, ‘47, a founding member of the Missouri Military Acad-emy Board of Visitors in 1969, died May 25, 2006, in Columbia, Mo., at age 77. He was elected chairman of the Board of Visitors and was a sponsor of the John A. and Elizabeth K. Epple Scholarship at MMA in trib-ute to his parents.

A graduate of the Uni-versity of Missouri and a U.S. Air Force veteran, he became head of Epple Con-struction Company, which built several buildings at the Academy, including the Academic Building, Memo-rial Chapel and the new Delta barracks.

Among survivors are his wife, Pat, and son Robert W. Epple, ‘73. He was preceded in death by a brother, Larry, ‘43, former MMA physician.

of Hannibal, Mo., died April 23, 2004. He was a gradu-ate of Chillicothe Business College and Cincinnati Col-lege of Mortuary Science, and was a former Marion County coroner. He was the owner and operator of Smith Funeral Home, and former president of the Hannibal Chamber of Commerce. He is survived by his wife, Myrtle.

“He served the Academy for 18 years, loved his build-ing and the cadets,” said the Rev. Chris Atkinson in his eulogy. MMA staff members Greg Morton and Ray Heaton were among the pallbearers.

Capt. Mark L. Elwood, Missouri Military Academy director of information and publications, is seeking the cooperation and assis-tance of MMA cadets, parents and alumni in a scrapbook project to monitor newspapers’ use of publicity releases from the Academy.

“We are trying to gauge how many hometown newspapers are using our releases to report on activities and cadet awards at Mis-souri Military Academy,” said Capt. Elwood. “We are interested in what information the papers are using so we can improve our pub-licity and communicate with those publications more effectively.”

Parents and alumni are encouraged to assist in the project by sending clips or photocopies of clips involving MMA, its cadets, alumni or faculty to Capt. Elwood at Missouri Military Academy, 204 N. Grand Ave., Mexico, Mo. 65265; or e-mailing scans of the stories to him at [email protected].

Fund Campaign there were a total of 423 donors with an aver-age gift of $1,210. Within those figures, the Academy received gifts from 211 alumni with an average alumni gift of $1,505. Alumni giving made a signifi-cant increase from 32 percent of donors during the 2004-05 cam-paign to 51 percent of the donors during the 2005-06 campaign. An additional 20 percent of the donors (85) were past patrons, with an average gift of $502, and 11 percent (46) were current patrons with an average gift of $1,569.

A total of $89.268 was received and placed into the Alumni Scholarship Fund from the following estates: Jarrett Barton,’81, estate; Hal and Donna Walker,’35, estate.
