Northwest Plains District is Available by Phone & Email The Northwest Plains District remains closed to visitors but the work of the staff continues. You should expect responses by telephone and email. Messages left in the general voicemail will be forwarded to staff the same day. Thank you.

They will be my people, and I will be their God. I will give them singleness of heart and action, so that they will always fear me and that all will then go well for them and for their children after them. Jeremiah 32:38–39, NIV Lord our God, you want to be our God and you want us to be your people. Give us the inner integrity and the power to discern and reject what does not come from the heart, so that everything may be genuine among us. Then no lies and deception will creep in, and honesty and goodness will flow from our hearts to the glory of truth, to the glory of the gospel and the great hope you give us through the gospel. Guard our hearts. Protect the good that is planted in them, that it may grow and thrive and bear fruit. Amen.

Are you interested in caring for or improving your church's program of history? The General Commission on Archives and History of the United Methodist Church will be offering a Local Church His-torian School in 2020 for church historians-or anyone interested in the story of their church. This is the same school developed and offered by the Indiana Conference in the past, now updated, and being of-fered by the General Commission on Archives and History to any United Methodist church globally. The Local Church Historian School curriculum will cover a wide range of skills necessary to become a "complete" church historian. Participating congregations will benefit from a new consciousness of their heritage and legacy and be motivated to study their unique stories and proclaim it to those around them. LCHS is a 12-week long course that allows participants to move at their own pace through a se-ries of exercises. Each week participants will receive reading material and an assignment (s) via email. They can then move at their own pace to get through the readings and complete the assignment--even if it takes them longer than 12 weeks. During the course, they will have access to an assigned modera-tor for any questions that might arise as well as access to a closed Facebook group with other course participants. Once completed, the participant will receive a certificate from GCAH. The Book of Disci-pline says our Commission is "to encourage and assist the local churches in preserving their records, compiling their histories and celebrating their heritage...." This school provides United Methodists the opportunity to do just that. The school will begin on September 14, 2020. Plan now to use this oppor-tunity to ensure that the heritage of each of our churches will be celebrated and that each church can receive the full benefit of its own amazing story. Click here to register for FREE. (The only requirement is access to dependable email service.)

BY GEORGE! Campaign

Thank you so much for your wonderful response to the By George Campaign. This campaign has now come to an end. The final amount collect-ed from everyone’s wonderful donations had come to a total of $37,907.71. Again, Thank you for your support!!

Campaign Vision and Purpose Our purpose is to multiply the number of vibrant, robust, effective congre-gations and in turn multiply the number of people who are choosing to live in the hope of Jesus Christ, being shaped from the inside out by the justice, love and peace that Jesus brings to us all.

IF we sincerely believe that God is calling us to offer Christ in a Wesleyan way, passionately and respectfully, that is relevant to our cultural context

and inspires hope and new life…

AND we are sincere in asking God to send one more person, family, or child for us to love and disci-ple…

THEN we are called to come together to plant new churches and nurture congregational vitality in order to reach new people of all ages and life circumstances and connect them with Jesus Christ.

Creating a Culture of Multiplication for an Expanding Context

By Sam Rodriguez, West Ohio Director of Faith Formation and Community Engagement One of the books in my seminary Church Planting course was titled, A Church for Every Context, by Mike Moynaugh. In it, the author states that: “Church no longer has the op-tion, if it ever had, of relating to people as if they were all the same…Contextualizing the church is the attempt to be church in ways that are both faithful to Jesus and appropriate to the people the church serves….” Overall, this has been very challenging for our de-nomination as we have tended to separate groups and oftentimes support exclusion when it comes to who is welcomed in a church. My last article (https://www.westohioumc.org/conference/news/creating-culture-multiplication-times-change) referenced the Multiplication Dynamics strategic paper written by Path1/Discipleship Min-istries. I highlighted three characteristics of churches with a “culture of multiplication.” To-day, I want to share three more characteristics that speak to Moynaugh’s concept of con-textualizing the church. Thank you for serving as a Festival of Sharing Kit Depot Volunteer. I am incredibly grate-ful for your service to this ministry. After careful consideration and many prayers, the FOS Committee has decided to proceed with the Festival of Sharing on September 18-19, 2020. That is wonderful news! The safety of Kit Volunteers is our top priority at the FOS. We are confident we can open our depots safely—and I hope we can count on you to help us. We have established a few guidelines to help you open your depot safely. We are asking our volunteers to create a “no-contact” environment this year by hosting one of these 3 type of depots: Outdoor Kit Depot; Self-Serve Kit Depot; Drive-In Kit Depot. You probably are probably already hosting one of these types of depots. Maybe your church building isn’t open yet, so you could consider hosting a one-day outdoor de-pot on earlier date and store the kits in a secure place. The FOS Committee is going to ask all of our Kit Donors contact you prior to dropping off their kits. Our hope is to limit the number of people at your depot at one time. And just to make sure we covered all of our bases; the FOS will be sending safety guidance instruc-tions to all of our Kit Donors. As a volunteer, you are an essential part of the Festival of Sharing ministry and I am so thankful for your dedication to serving others. Can you do me a favor? If you are unable to serve as the Kit Depot Volunteer this summer, can you help with a backup plan and iden-tify someone else at your church who could help? With school not being in session, this might be the perfect time to get a youth or a family involved with the kit collection.

Thanks again for your service to the Festival of Sharing Kits ministry. With gratitude, Sam Fore

Dear West Ohio Clergy,

Thank you for your adaptability as we prepare for the upcoming Clergy Session and the 51st Session of the West Ohio Annual Conference. For the first time, we will be hosting a Virtual Clergy Session on Tuesday, July 28, 2020, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Our theme for this is Resilience.

We have been working in cooperation with the United Methodist connection nationwide along with our own Epis-copal Office, Communications Department, IT and Office of Ministry areas to provide a fair and accessible ap-proach to the Clergy Session. Due to some of the restrictions in place with COVID-19 and in adherence to the State of Ohio safety protocols, we have developed an online format that will care for the Business of the Annual Confer-ence in the best way possible given our current circumstances. We understand that we will miss being in communi-ty face to face and some may not yet feel comfortable using technology, but we will work hard to equip you with what you need to succeed. As we have heard many times, we are all in this together. Our own, Dr. Brian Law, Chair-person of the Board of Ordained Ministry (BOM) will provide our Homily for the Clergy Session as he highlights the work of the BOM over the last quadrennium and brings a message of encouragement as we maneuver through this year.

Registration will be open from June 24 – July 24, 2020. You must pre-register to attend. Registration will require a two-step process. Once you register, you will receive a link to connect to the Zoom Webinar that will be used for Clergy Session. Please follow the details below to help you prepare.

• You will need your own device (tablet or computer) to participate in the Clergy Session.

• Each person will need his or her own device. Married couples cannot share devices to vote because each device will be attached to a separate voting account.

• It is recommended that you hard-wire (plug into the Internet Service) where possible.

• If you are in an area with limited internet, please find a location where you can go for the duration of the Clergy Session and be fully connected. We will not have sites reserved for the Clergy Session.

• We are using Zoom Webinar. Please set up a Zoom account, they’re free, if you do not have one. It is also nec-essary to do the updates to Zoom so that you are using the most current operating system.

• We will provide detailed instructions on the link that you receive after registration and will be available to assist those who may experience some challenges with the process.

**You will find more info on page 13**

• The thought of using technology may create some apprehension but we have secured a professional compa-ny to work with us to ensure that everything runs as smooth as possible.

• Although we will begin at 10:00 a.m., please plan to log in between 9a – 9:30a to allow yourself time to trou-bleshoot if necessary.

• Find attached, a detailed listing of eligibility for voice and vote during the Clergy Session.

For questions, please feel free to reach out to the Office of Ministry where it is our pleasure to serve you.

May you know the continuous favor of the Lord and peace of the Holy Spirit during this season and always,

Free Active Shooter Prevention Guide

Recently, attention has been drawn to the unthinkable action of active shoot-

ers in a house of worship.

UMI is offering this resource to you as a way to prepare you, your church lead-

ership, the congregation and visitors in the event this should occur. Being pre-

pared helps everyone cope with these realities and begin to re-focus attention on core ministries.

Conducting the ministries of The United Methodist Church takes on many forms. Our first call to ministry is to make

disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. This crucial part of our ministry as a denomination begins

in the local church. Everything else we do on a daily basis supports this core commission. (Matthew 28:19)

There are many supportive actions taking place every day to support the local church. One of them is to insure the

church properties so that a church can continue its core ministries in the community.
