Dr. McGee was an activeparticipant in this radioministry for 47 exciting years.When his health began tofail, plans were made inadvance to decide how theprogram would continue in the event ofhis homegoing. The message wouldremain the same and the “voice” of Thru the Bible Radiowould continue to be Dr. McGee, through the use of thetaped 5-year program.

After our Savior called Dr. McGee homein 1988, the program’s reach continuedto grow. Listeners never seem to tire ofDr. McGee’s unique brand of rubber-meets-the-road teaching, or his passion forteaching the whole Word of God.

Today, Thru the Bible is a worldwide ministry airingon over 800 stations in the U.S. and Canada, andheard in more than 100 languages and dialects aroundthe world. Our mission is simple and the same oneDr. McGee himself embraced: To take the whole Word tothe whole world.

The continued success of this ministry, even after thedeath of its founder, gives testimony to God’s abundantblessings. The work is supportedentirely by the fervent prayersand faithful giving of ourwonderful listeners, and we planto keep sending the Word out aslong as God allows.

John Vernon McGee was born in Hillsboro, Texas, in1904. After completing his education (including a Th.M.and Th.D. from Dallas Theological Seminary), he and hiswife came west, settling in Pasadena, California.

It was back in 1941 that Dr. McGee was persuadedto begin a Sunday radio broadcast called “The Open BibleHour” on a single station. That little program aimed at“Mr. Average American” was the foundation stone forwhat would eventually become Thru the Bible Radio,which he began teaching in 1967.

Dr. McGee’s greatestpastorate was at the historicChurch of the Open Doorin downtown Los Angeles,where he served from 1949to 1970. After retiring fromthe pastorate, he set upradio headquarters in Pasadena, and the radio ministryexpanded rapidly.

On the morning of December 1, 1988, Dr. McGee fellasleep in his chair and quietly passed into the presence ofhis Savior.

The PlanYou can begin the study at any time. When we haveconcluded Revelation, we will start over again in Genesis,so if you are with us for five years you will not miss anypart of the Bible. It’s like a bus that goes over the sameroute. You can get on at any stop and make the roundtrip without missing a thing. The Bible bus can beboarded at Exodus. . .Job. . .Jude–and by staying onboard you will benefit even more on the second trip oreven a third.

The PurposeThis is a proven method of encouraging people to studythe Bible systematically. All great spiritual movementsamong the people of God have come about through arevival of Bible study. It will make you an intelligentChristian (1 Peter 3:15). It will make you an instructedChristian (2 Timothy 3:16, 17). It will make you aninformed Christian (John 7:17).

4. TELL others and get them interested in studyingthe Word with us.
