We take this opportunity to thank all participants and especially the parents and friends for their splendid cooperation. All of the babies made a good showing, however, there were some that excelled others. The winner of the contest was Brenda Rivers, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank T. Rivers. The Ist prize was a gold ring donated by Marty Jewelers of Miami Beach, Fla. The second prize was awarded to Marion Alexander, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Surie Alexander,, who received two sunsuits and the , third prize winner was Steve Marshall who also, received two sunsuits. We would like to em- ' phasize that Steve Marshall was in the hospital at the time of the contest, and we are hoping for him a very speedy recovery. The prizes were solicited by Mrs. T. Plessy and Mrs. Perrin. #- All of the babies were given a token from their sponsors. The Mayor’s Jewelry Store donated the token for Daniel Bailey. APRIL 15 * m WILLIE GIBBS Gethsemane Court Heroines Os Jericho Organized On Tuesday evening district deputy Johnny Hill and state deputy Thomas Rolle along with Most Ancient Matron Mary Doris and Most Ancient Matron Mary Dean, organized Gethsemane Court Heroines of Jericho. The spiritual fervor ran high as Dep- uty Rolle prayed and the mem- bers sang “Jesus Keep Me Near The Cross.” Mr. Barney Jackson, Mr. Willie Williams and Mr. Harold Francis were installed as Court Directors. Lectures in the work of a Hero- ines were given by Sister Mary Dean, Sister Mary Davis and Deputy Johnny Hill. The name of the court was given by Miss Marie White after a great prayer meeting was held and men and women stood up and acknowledged Christ as their saviour. The number of the court 338 was given by Grand Vener- able Patron whose orders it was that Deputies Hill and Rolle set up the court of Gethsemane. Mrs. Jean Capers, city coun- cilman of ward 11, Cleveland, O. and Mrs. Eleanore Marr, of Chi- cago were the guests of Rev. and Mrs. J. E. Coleman, Tuesday. . Mrs. Capers and Mrs. Marr, came to Florida to attend the National Woman’s Council at Daytona Beach and decided to visit Miami and Cuba before re- turning home. They are stopping at the Lord Calvert hotel. Studio To Open Grant Studio, specializing in fine photography, will open for business Easter Sunday, April 13. To her sur- prise, the faculty had planned a delicious luncheon in her honor. The menu consisted of smothered steak, creamed potatoes, green peas, orange juice, salad and hot rolls. The dessert was pie-a-la- mode. The tables and chairs were ar- tistically placed and the tables were decorated with beautiful flowers and gifts presented by the faculty. DOBBS FETED ON BIRTHDAY On Tuesday the student body of Dorsey high k:hool gave a sur- prise shower of birthday gifts to their principal. Mr. Dobbs, who was attending a meeting Tuesday morning was summoned to re- turn to school as quickly as pos- sible. When he arrived, he was greeted with shouts of “Happy Birthday” by the faculty and student body who had already assembled in the patio. As everyone sang Happy Birth- day accompanied by the band, placards were displayed with the message, “Happy Birthday, Mr. Dobbs.” Mrs. A. E. McNeal then gave the occasion, followed by greetings from Student Council president, Roscoe Matchett. Each grade group then had a repre- sentative present its gift to Mr. Dobbs. A beautifully deconated cake was given by the Home Ec- onomics Department as well as flowers from the faculty and a gift from the cafeteria staff. Mr. Dobbs was so completely overwhelmed that several minutes passed before he could recover himself. However, in a touching response, he told the assembly how deeply moved he was over the expressions of gratitude and love which were shown. PAGE SIXTEEN
