NERA ROBERTS WINS AMATEUR CONTEST The amateur contest sponsor- ed by the Nightingale School of Arts was run off at the Lord Cal- vert hotel, May 24 at 7:30 p.m. The first prize was taken by little Nera Roberts, a student at the School of Arts. Nera, who is just 5 years old and lives at 716 NW 4th ave., is still in the beginners class taking tap and ballet. The second prize was taken by Bobby Kendrick. Although Bobby has a broken arm, it didn’t hinder him very much. He played the piano and sang the haunting re- frains of "Bewildered.” Bobby is another student at the school and shows great promise. We all know that his dad is very proud of him. Third prize was taken by Jas. Wiley, doing his interpretation of the beautiful “Blue Tango.” Phi) “The Upsetter” Harris did a grand job of emceeing the show, and doing a little bit to make it a suc*e&. Phil, 'who at one time was affil- iated wath the “Orson Welles Theatrical Group” will be giving the benefit of his experience in drama lo teach for the Nightingale School of Arts. The first play to be produced will be the Shake- spearian play “Hamlet” which will be put on for the schools in Dade County. Following Hamlet, the school will do the popular version of “One Touch of Venus” which starred Mary Martin on Broadway. FISHING NEWS There has been pretty good fishing going on for the past month or two on bridges, cause- ways and other places. Some par- ties make weekly trips to the Keys. Among those reporting are Dr. C. M. Jollivette, Dr. W. H. Murrell, Mr. Willie Littles and Editor H. E. S. Reeves. They have been catching snappers, grouper, blue runners, yellow tail, etc. Littles is boasting the largest snapper, 6*6 lbs. Murrell has been a close second. Jollivette is one of the most enthusiastic anglers I have ever met. He is a pretty good fisherman at that, and boasts that last week he caught the prize fish a 4% lb pompano. Editor Reeves says he might not catch the big- gest, but he always gets his share. A most enjoyable item with the anglers is the big fish fry and hush puppies served at noontime. Fishing at Whale Key last week Dr. Clarence (Pete) Hogan, Mrs. Hogan and Mrs. Margaret Brown caught two dozen snappers. This party goes regularly on Wednes- days. But what a sight he was when he lost a real big one! That hap- pens to everybody sometimes, Doc. Garth Reeves, Wm. Mcßride and James Cherry report very good fishing on the Venetian causeway. Mcßride, Liberty Suare Housing manager ,led the catch with five groupers aver- aging 2% lbs. her guest.
