I always thought a convent was a place austere and gray,Where girls who lost their lovers went to weep their lives away.I felt a grim, foreboding chill enshroud me like a pallWhen once an errand beckoned me beyond a convent wall.I s tammered out my message to the sister at the door. She smilingly directed me up to another floor. An then Isaw a little novice tripping up the stair,Who wore a bright red ribbon in her curly wind-blown hair.Through all these years Istill recall the beauty of the place,The pansies in the garden, the sweet peace in every face.I hear the nuns ' low laughter like the music of the bells ,That summon them to chapel where The One Great Lover dwells .Their sp ir i tual "at-one-ment" yet enthralls me, and their goalTo find in simple service the salvation of the soul. But th is Ibest remember in that atmosphere of prayerThe slender little novice with the ribbon in her hair.It never fails to thrill me when I see a nun todayUpon the crowded pavement in her black, brown, white, or gray.I know beneath her sober mien, devoid of make-up art,There lies a pure, unselfish soul and a contended heart. *It seems to me the hand of God moves silently on highIn iindly benediction when a nun is passing by.I always ask her mentally, though she is unaware,Was she the little novice with the ribbon in her hair?

since i/**w** w** *ta'nly it is not because we receivefless than the studentsd'd at that t ime, for each year our Alma Mater bringsforth from her store of experience the old things givent every class before us ,J and adds tojthem innumerable thingsboth in classwork and in extracurricularactivit ies.

    Let us, then, show our gratitude to Mercyhurst by our v0iCeg in song to our Alma Mater.j Let theraising t h e e c h o e a o f o u r s o n g s o fhalls once more sweipraise.

THROUGH GOD'S GLOWING SUN!*&$;: God's" glorious sun w as shin ing in th e heavens and its glowing,'.hopeful rays beamed! through the windows of our Christ theKing Chapel. Isat there looking at the silent, yet eloquent Tabernacle, thoughtful of the GOODNESS, the MERCJY, the JUSTICEbehind its veils .-My eyes were attracted to the panorama overshadowing this magnetic center of attraction. Isaw, in the verycenter a Venetian mosaic of Christ the Glorified Kingj on oneside, symbolizing Christ the Infant King, were the Madonna andChild with the Magi offering their gifts; on the other side, IsawChrist the | Suffering King s tan din g before His accuser, Pilate. Here, indeed,|was material for a threefoldS menta t ion. But whowere the two Dignitaries or Ecclesiastics portrayed so ^proudly a tthe right and left of the Mosaic ? What word in our I vocabulary is more sweet, more loveamore enjoyable to the ear than the word "Mother?"
