Shadowlands o f a differentjkind Dr. Mario Diaz, assistant professor of physics, will give a talk tit led "Suns, M oons and Shadows" about the May 10th solar eclipse. This eclipse will be the last one visible  from he United States until 2012. Dr. Diaz will present a computer show on a big screen revisiting solar eclipses of the past an d will run a simulatio n of the approaching eclipse. McNeils Copy Editor "It's one of the biggest thi ngs thatthis campus has seen in a long time," said MSG Vice Pre side nt Kristen Hunt. She's talking about the Spri ng Fest which is sched- uled for  tills Saturday, beginning at 12:30 p.m. The festival will benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation, an organizationwhich grants wish es to terminally ill children. The fes- tival was organized by MSG. President George Paydock first Make-A-Wish and the idea for tile festival was born. "I'd heard a lot about the Make- A-Wish program and I thought Th is would be something. ^ w e could do/" said Paydock. Paydock said the average wish costs $3,400 to grant The wishes are simple, he said. Many chil- dren want to go to D isney Worl d or to visit relatives. In previous years , MSG has host ed one big band duri ng the Spring Term. Paydock said funds were not available for a big band this year and a decision had been made to host a number of small bands. It was suggested this idea be incorporated with the fei She characterized their music as 'earthy. 1 -Kristen Hurd Fou r bands will be on campus for the Festival Saturday. Co- headlining are Rusted Root and First Light- First Light is a Cleveland reggae band. Hurd said the band has a "big following" in Cleveland. First Light will play  from 4 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. ! Rusted Root is a Pittsburgh band which recently signed a contract with Mercury records, said Hurd. She characterized their music as "earthy" and said they are very popular. Rusted Root will play from 6 p.m. u ntil 8 pan. The festival will open with Erie's own Ric and Brian Butler, an acoustic cover band. The But- lers will play from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. [• Neville Blues is another band from Pittsburgh. According to Senior Michael Arrigo, the band plays blues and will soon be relo- cating to Washington, DC to fur- ther its career. All bands will be located in the parking lot behind the Rec Cen- ter. | f | n In addition to the bands, there will be a snowboard demonstra- tion and a step show. The snowboard demonstration is soonsored bv several including Morrow, Trans World magazine and K2. Hurd said Morrow andiK2 have donated snowboards and apparel for raffles. The demonstration will take place on trampolines at 1:30 p.m. 4 The step show begins at 3 pan. an d will take place in the Athletic Center. The A KAs and Alphas of Edinboro University will be per- forming. There will also be a numbe r o f vendors, crafts and other activi- ties. Many of the activities have been org a nized by differ ent dub s and ] groups. Paydock said the hockey team, Ambassadors, the Council for Exceptional Children, {Honors Society, the M inority Stu- dent Union, the dance team, the HRI M d ub and many othershave planned a variety of activities for tile festival. The vendors and othe r activi- ties will be located in Garvey Park, in  front of the Union an d in front of the Rec an d Athletic Centers. The festival costs $3 for Mercyhurst students and $5 for the public. Students whoare work- ing at the festival must pay ad- mission. Tickets ca n be purchased in the Student Union office from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Tickets will also be available the day of the festival. Student ID is required.
