A MESSAGE FROM YOUR

MEADOWS RECREATION

ASSOCIATION By – MRA President John Dittrich

As we welcome autumn to The Meadows,

we welcome the return of our winter residents!

There have been many changes in our

community over the last few months! We have

seen the installation of several new homes in the

community. This is obviously a sign of the

burgeoning housing market here in the Phoenix

area!

The new homes bring new residents and we

want to welcome our new residents to The

Meadows! We hope you will find it an enjoyable

place to live. We are a friendly community of

good neighbors and we look forward to meeting

you!

Probably the biggest change and biggest

challenge that we have had over the recent

months or weeks has been the issuance of new

regulations governing the use of our clubhouse

kitchen and BBQ grills. These changes have been

brought about by new laws and rules governing the

use of community kitchens like ours and to a

degree, stricter enforcement of rules.

While our initial reaction to the news that

we can no longer prepare food in the kitchen was

somewhat worrisome, your MRA board has been

researching our options and we are confident that

we will have some good solutions going forward.

We fully intend to keep doing as many of our

activities involving food as possible. We do want

to thank our ELS Activities Director, Vanessa,

for her assistance and willingness to work with us

to find solutions.

That being said, we must also inform all

residents that these rules and regulations will

require some changes in the way our food

activities are handled. This may also require some

“cost adjustments”. But we promise to do our

best to keep all costs to a minimum. Our purpose

is to create and conduct events for the benefit

and enjoyment of our residents at a minimal cost.

We appreciate the patience everyone has

shown as we navigate these changes and we look

forward to seeing you at a clubhouse event in

October!

MHOA UPDATE Submitted by Jerry McEnaney

October is the annual membership

drive for the Meadows’ Home Owners

Association (MHOA). A tentative date of

Saturday, October 22 has been obtained

from the MRA, when we will proceed with a

Saturday night dinner for all members (old

and new). The annual dues for membership

in MHOA is $2.50, per resident/person.

This amount will be collected at the event,

along with a nominal contribution for the

cost of the food served. Duane and his

crew, including myself, will be welcoming

new residents to this gala affair.

Watch your tubes for further

information about this event, and be sure

to check the bulletin board in the

Clubhouse for the sign-up sheet.

AAMHO News Arizona Association of Manufactured Home

Owners Submitted by John Perkins

On August 29, I received a letter from

“concerned residents” of the Meadows

specifically asking me, as AAMHO Unit

President, to investigate the “denial of kitchen

usage” at the Meadows and to take swift and

effective action regarding this concern.

I have addressed this concern and on

Monday, October 10 at 7:00 p.m. there will be

an AAMHO meeting at the Clubhouse. This will

be an open meeting for all residents. The

kitchen usage issue and any other resident

concerns will be addressed at this meeting.

Please understand that this is an

AAMHO meeting and those members who have

paid their yearly dues will be allowed to take

action or vote. If you have not paid your annual

dues and want to become a member, please call

me at 602-437-1908 by October 5.

UPCOMING BUS

TRIPS

Oct. 19 Queen Creek Olive Mill

This trip to the Queen Creek Olive Mill

promises a delightful and relaxing excursion.

The bus will leave the Clubhouse at 10:00 a.m.

Upon reaching the Olive Mill you will participate

in a short tour and learn about the growing of

olive trees, harvesting olives, and the making of

premium olive oils. After the tour, you will

enjoy a delectable lunch on the grounds of the

Olive Mill and then have time to browse through

the well-stocked gift shop and sample some of

the unique, infused olive oils and vinegars. Cost

of the tour is $5.00 and lunch menu items range

in price from $10.00 to $15.00, all payable at

the Queen Creek Olive Mill. ($1.00 will be

collected from each participant for a tip for

our driver.) A sign-up sheet and a copy of the

lunch menu are posted on the bulletin board in

the Clubhouse. Don’t miss out on this great trip!

Please contact Diane Content at 602-

438-9690 with any questions.

As many of you are aware, there has

been a suspension in the availability of this

important resource of the community. The

Meadows is happy to announce that

administration of our pantry has been taken on

by Sts. Francis and Clair Catholic Church (The

Meadows’ Catholic church that meets every

Sunday in the Clubhouse at 10:00 a.m.)

None of us are immune to hitting a rough

patch in our daily life and, here at The

Meadows, we endeavor to provide a bit of relief

through our Food Pantry. If you are in need

of grocery assistance, please contact:

John Perkins at 602-437-1908, or

Dean Haaser at 602-414-0433

If you reach a voicemail, please feel free to

leave a message and someone will return your

call as soon as possible. All requests will be

handled discreetly and confidentially and you

do not need to be a member of the church to

make a request for assistance.

The pantry is currently well stocked;

however, we do depend on resident

contributions to keep it stocked on a continuing

basis. Information about how and where to

make donations to the pantry will be

distributed in the coming weeks. You should be

aware that all food items must be non-

perishable, in unopened containers, and cannot

have an expired “use by” date.

Thank you for your support of The Food

Pantry through your donations and referrals of

neighbors who might be in need. And thank you

to the members of Sts. Francis and Clair for

taking on this important project.

SHUFFLE BOARD RESUMES MARK YOUR CALENDAR FOR OCTOBER 6!

Games this year will resume on

Thursday, Oct. 6. We will have a short meeting

at 3:45 p.m. and start play right after the

meeting (4:00 p.m.) We are hoping to be able

to use five (5) courts this year and will meet

every Thursday at 4:00 p.m. through April.

If you have any questions, please contact

Jerry Dean at 602-438-7254, Lot 261.

HALLOWEEN IS COMING TO THE

MEADOWS

Your MRA Board has some fun activities

planned for Halloween and we hope you will

participate in these events.

We will have the annual home decorating

contest. You choose how you wish to decorate

your home; scary, spooky, eerie, jack-o-

lanterns, etc. Three cash prizes ($25, $15,

$10) will be awarded for the best decorated at

the Halloween party on Saturday, October 29.

Judging will take place on the evenings of

October 23 and 24 so be sure to have your

decorations lit up on those nights.

On Saturday, October 29 we will have

festivities at the Clubhouse beginning at 5:30.

MRA will provide some munchies and table

treats and you supply your beverage of choice.

We will also have cash prizes ($25, $15, $10)

for costumes, if you like to dress up for

Halloween (costumes not required).

Watch your tube for more details about

these events. Everyone had a great time with

lots of laughs and antics at last year’s party and

this year promises to be just as exciting.
