She was born June 14, 1957, inMobile, Alabama, to Harlan McMannand Kathleen Virginia (Brownlee)Jones. On July 30, 2005, inGrovertown, Indiana, she marriedRichard Allen Toll.

Karen enjoyed time with family andfriends. She recently celebrated 24years of sobriety.

She is survived by her husband,Richard, three grandchildren, fourgreat grandsons, two great grand-daughters, her father, Harlan “Cap”Jones and two sisters: Crystal (Chuck)Gross and D’Avona Richardson. Shewas preceded in death by one son,Vernon R. Hurley Jr. and her mother,Kathleen Jones.

A casual Celebration of Life will beheld at a later date. Memorial contribu-tions may be made to the AmericanLung Association or lung.org

WINAMAC, IN - Walter “Walt” Wallace,82, died at 5:40am, Saturday, June 20,2020, at his home. He was bornOctober 22, 1937, in Mishawaka,Indiana, to the late Frank and Bessie(Burkett) Wallace. On September 18,1982, in Winamac, he marriedElizabeth “Betty” Braun.

Walt was a 1956 graduate ofMishawaka High School and was aveteran of the US Army. He wasretired from Plymouth Tube, Winamacand had worked in his younger yearsat Studebaker and RCA, He was thelast living charter member of theWinamac FOE #2580. Walt was a fanof all sports, especially the ChicagoCubs and Blackhawks and IU basket-ball. He enjoyed fishing, gardening anddoing puzzles. He loved his family verymuch.

He is survived by his wife, Betty, threedaughters: Diana (Tom) Thompson,Elaine (Dave) Crissinger and Vickie(Herb) Purtee and one son, Michael(Alisha) Wright, all of Winamac, manygrandchildren and great grandchildrenand one sister, Phyllis Cowsert ofHammond, Indiana. He was precededin death by one infant son, DonaldWright, one infant granddaughter,Amber Wible, two brothers: Wayneand George Wallace and one sister,Linda Cowsert.

Services were held Saturday, June27, at Frain Mortuary, with Rev. LeroyKinnaman officiating. Burial was in St.Peter’s Cemetery, Winamac. Memorialcontributions may be made to a charityof the donor’s choice.

NORTH JUDSON, IN - ShirleyFrasure, 68, died Wednesday, June24, 2020, in Lafayette, Indiana. Shewas born February 1, 1952, in Garrett,Kentucky, to the late Martin and Alvie(Lawson) Frasure.

Shirley worked for the North Judson-San Pierre school system for over 35years. After her retirement she was acaregiver for her sister. She lovedspending time with her family.

She is survived by one son, ThadGarrett (Sarah) Craft, three grandchil-dren, two brothers: Clennon “Bub”(Wanda) Frasure of North Judson andRabion “Rabe” (Brenda) Frasure ofDenham, Indiana and four sisters:Barbara Brewer of North Judson,Donna (Ed) Chesney of Naples,Florida, Jane (Jim) Pendl ofRobbinsville, North Carolina andSandy Rowe of Antioch, Tennessee.She was preceded in death by two sis-ters: Glenna Dean “Deannie” Frasureand Shelby Jean Frasure Brewer.

Services were held Sunday, June 28,at the O’Donnell Funeral Home. Burialwas in the Highland Cemetery, NorthJudson. Memorial contributions maybe given to the NJSP SchoolCorporation for the Special EducationProgram.

HOWARD CITY, MI - Marjorie J.Stalbaum-Lagestee, 84, died Tuesday,June 9, 2020. She was born June 9,1936, in Tefft, Indiana, to the late WadeL. and Catherine H. (Cullen) Peregrine.In 1967, in Wheatfield, Indiana, shemarried Howard “John” Stalbaum. Hedied in 1980. in 1982, in Wheatfield,she married Edward Lagestee. Hedied in 2008.

Marjorie was a1954 graduate of TefftHigh School. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by one daughter,Rev. Brenda (Rev. Gary) StalbaumMartin of Des Moines, Iowa, threesons: Bruce Stalbaum of Billings,Oklahoma, John Stalbaum of TraverseCity, Michigan and Jason Stalbaum ofNewaygo, Michigan, four grandchil-dren and one great granddaughter.

A memorial service will be held at10am, Saturday, August 1, 2020 atKosanke Funeral Home, with Rev.Gary Martin officiating. Interment willfollow at both All Saints Cemetery, SanPierre, Indiana and Holland Cemetery,DeMotte, Indiana. Visitation will befrom 4-7pm, Friday, July 31,atKosanke Funeral Home. MONTICELLO, IN - FORMERLY OFFRANCESVILLE, IN AND MONON, IN- Melvin A. Garling, 84, died Monday,June 22, 2020, at his home. He wasborn January 8, 1936, in rural PulaskiCounty, Indiana, to the late Robert H.and Ruth V. (Chamness) Garling. OnJune 14, 1956, in Indianapolis, Indiana,he married Loretta J. Elston.

Melvin was a lifelong farmer inPulaski and White Counties and was aschool bus driver for the West CentralSchool Corporation. Melvin was alongtime member of St. James SalemUnited Church of Christ in Francesville.He loved spending time with family,farming, hunting, fishing, horsebackriding, camping, traveling and listeningto country music.

He is survived by his wife, Loretta,one daughter, Angela (Mark)Dickerson of Murfreesboro,Tennessee, two granddaughters, fivegreat grandchildren and one brother,Devon Garling of Francesville. He waspreceded in death by one sister, Phyllis“Phid” McCormick and one brother,Richard Garling.Due to Covid 19 a private service and

burial will be held. Memorial contribu-tions may be given to the AmericanCancer Society.

HELEN L. SCHEFFER

PULASKI, IN - Helen L. Scheffer, 96,died at 1:55pm, Tuesday, June 23,2020, at the Pulaski Health CareCenter, Winamac, Indiana. She wasborn July 20, 1923, in Pulaski, to thelate Hubert and Rose (Russell)Ortman. On November 30, 1945, inPulaski, she married Paul M. “Pudge”Scheffer. He died August 13, 2006.

Helen was a lifelong member of St.Joseph Catholic Church, Pulaski,Indiana, where she was an activemember of the Christian Mothers. Sheenjoyed quilting, crocheting, garden-ing, canning and cooking.

She is survived by six sons: RonaldScheffer, Donald (Kathy) Scheffer,Gary (Jean) Scheffer, DouglasScheffer, Steve Scheffer and George(Melinda) Scheffer, five daughters:Linda (Tom) Hoffman, Lynn Nufer,Kathleen Schroeder, Vicki (Gary)Fnkhouser and Shelley Krider, manygrandchildren, great grandchildren andgreat great grandchildren. She waspreceded in death by two sons: InfantRandall Scheffer and Bradley Scheffer,six brothers: George, Paul, Julius,Robert, Frank and Bill and three sis-ters: Mary, Katherine and Rosanna.

Services were held Friday, June 26,at St. Joseph Catholic Church, withRev. Leroy Kinnaman officiating. Burialwas in the St. Joseph Cemetery South,Pulaski. Memorials may be made tothe St. Joseph Catholic Church.

He is survived by three daughters:Anita Alexander, Andrey (Louis)Sommerfield of Knox and Cindy (Roy)Minix of North Judson, one son,Michael (Judy) Morrow of Winamac,Indiana, nine grandchildren andnumerous great grandchildren. He waspreceded in death by his wife, Betsy,two sisters: Lavada Brammer andBeatrice Zelenznik and two brothers:Walter Morrow and Samuel AllenGrissom.
