MEMORIAL LITERARY AWARDS

Four categories:

Open to adults and students 12 to 18 years in Australia and

International.

In memory of Dr Liz Huf – a much valued and loved mentor and teacher to many, and a valued member of

the Central Queensland writing community.

1. OPEN:

The Liz Huf Memorial Prize

For a short story to 2,000 words. Any subject or genre.

ENTRY FEE: Adults and Students 12 to 18 years: $10

PRIZE: First Prize: $500

Second Prize: $250

Highly Commended

All winning entries will be considered for publication in an anthology to be produced from the competition entries.

2. SHORT STORY – Theme

With theme 'Gem' to 2,000 words. The story must contain the word 'Gem'. (Liz spent much of her time on the gem fields of Central Queensland. This story will be a tribute to her passion for gems)

ENTRY FEE: Adults: $10 Students 12 to 18 years: $3

PRIZE: Adults: First Prize: $300 – Second Prize: $150

Highly Commended

Students: First Prize: $100 – Second Prize: $50

Highly Commended

All winning entries will be considered for publication in an anthology to be produced from the competition entries.

3. MICRO FICTION:

Short story to 100 words. Any subject or genre.

ENTRY FEE: Adults : $10 Students 12 to 18 years: $3

PRIZE: Adults: First Prize: $300 – Second Prize: $150 Highly Commended

Students: First Prize: $100 – Second Prize: $50

Highly Commended

All winning entries will be considered for publication in an anthology to be produced from the competition entries.

4. POETRY:

To 40 lines: 2 sections. Any subject or genre.

Section 1: Rhyming

Section 2: Free verse

ENTRY FEE: Adults : $10 Students 12 to 18 years: $3

PRIZE: First Prize for best poem from both categories: Adult $300 – Students: $100

A second prize and Highly Commended will be given for each poetry section:

Second Prize – Adult: $150 – Second Prize – Student: $50 Highly Commended

All winning entries will be considered for publication in an anthology to be produced from the competition entries.

Conditions: th th1. Entries open 9am February 9 2013 and close 5 pm June 14 2013.

2. All entries are to be the original and unpublished works of the author.

3. The competition is open to residents in Australia and International.

4. There is a maximum of three entries per author.

5. Each entry should be accompanied by a receipt for the nominated entry fee, which can be paid by direct credit to Capricorn Writers and Friends, BSB: 034 231 Account: 203943 or by PayPal from the Capricorn Writers and Friends' website,

6. The short stories can have a maximum of 2000 words. No minimum applies.

7. The poems can have a maximum of 40 lines. No minimum applies.

8. Micro Fiction can have a maximum of 100 words. No minimum applies.

9. Entries to be submitted by email only to [email protected]. No hand written entries will be accepted.

10. Text should doubled-spaced or spacing set at 1.5, in Times New Roman, and sent as a Rich Text document or Word document.

11. Name, address, telephone numbers and email should be given on a separate cover page, to be detached after registration. Use only the page number and/or story title as a page tag. Do not put your name on any page other than the cover page.

12. Indicate clearly the relevant section(s) of entry. The same story can be entered in more than one category, at no extra cost. (e.g. Open and Theme.)

13. Entries will not be returned and no comments or feedback will be given.

14. Capricorn Writers and Friends reserve the right to retain copies of the short-listed stories for purposes of reproduction. Copyright remains with the author.

15. Judges for the Liz Huf Memorial Awards are published author, editor, and writing tutor Elaine Ouston (MLitt) of Morris Publishing Australia, published author and retired English teacher Ron Day, published writers and retired English teachers Barbara Hunt and Rusty Hunt, and published writer Claire Ryan.

16. The judging panel is ineligible to enter.

17. The judges' decision is final. The judges reserve the right not to award a prize in a category if entries are not of a sufficient standard.

18. Short listed winners will be announced on the Capricorn Writers and thFriends website on August 16 2013. All short-listed winners will be notified by
