THE LAUSANNE WAYOF GIVING & GETTING INVOLVED

MESSAGE FROM THE HEADMASTER

Dear Lausanne Family & Friends,

At Lausanne, the partnership between the school, our students and our parents forms the foundation of school and student success. That’s why so much of what we do is dependent on the close relationships we form with one another and the contributions each of us makes to the health and welfare of the community as a whole.

In the following pages, you will see how you can become a partner in your child’s success by volunteering to help in the classroom, participating in our many activities and by giving to the school through Annual and Capital Giving.

When you’ve read this information, feel free to contact me with questions and thank you for being such an important part of the Lausanne community.

Cheers!

Stuart McCathieHeadmaster

THE GUIDE TO GIVINGWhat is the Lausanne Fund?

The Lausanne Fund is our yearly fundraising campaign that supports those programs, projects, and services not included in tuition.

Why is the Lausanne Fund important?

While tuition covers 100% of our daily operations, we rely on gifts to the Lausanne Fund to enhance our campus and supplement programs for our children.

THE LAUSANNE FUND

What is Supported?

The Lausanne Fund for the 2015-2016 academic year will support:• Financial Aid for our students whose families demonstrate need and would otherwise not be able to attend Lausanne.• Faculty Continuing Education • Arts and Athletics programming• Student leadership initiatives such as Robotics, Debate, Model UN and many others.• Service Learning opportunities.• On-going Capital improvements.

How much should you give? Most importantly, all gifts, no matter what the size, are valued and deeply appreciated. The table below gives an idea of the range of gifts that are given through The Lausanne Fund. Our Lausanne Way Leadership Society begins with gifts of $1,200+.

Who gives?Everyone! We hope parents, grandparents, alumni, parents of alumni, faculty and staff, in short, everyone who is part of the Lausanne community will participate in the Lausanne Fund. Not only does it enhance the spirit of our special community but it also demonstrates to our major donors, foundations and corporations that we are well supported by those who know us best.

What is a matching gift?A matching gift is a contribution to Lausanne by your employer. If your organization has a Matching Gift Program, then they will match, or possibly exceed, your annual gift to Lausanne. This is a unique way for some donors to increase the impact of their personal gift.

CAPITAL GIVING

What is Capital Giving?Periodically, the school seeks contributions from our community so that we can improve our educational facilities.

Why is Capital Giving important?Every building and the equipment that fills it is funded through the gifts of generous donors to the school. Without those gifts, we could not provide the superb learning environment that is such an important part of the Lausanne experience.

What have been recent Capital Giving opportunities?

• 2004: Elder Performing Arts Center• 2005: Upper Middle School • 2010: Gym, weight room, locker rooms and aerobic facility• 2010: Library and Blue Heron Café• 2010: Two new playing fields, field house, stands, sprint track and tennis courts• 2011: Waterfront improvements• 2012: Renovations and additions to Tully Dining Hall • 2013: Synthetic turf field• 2014: Welcome Center• 2015: Outdoor Discovery Center and Press Box

ENDOWMENT

PLANNED GIVING

What is an Endowment?Endowments are funds which are permanently set aside by donors and provide lasting support of our programs.

What is Planned Giving?Donors make gifts to Lausanne through annuities, trusts, life insurance and bequests. Because of the tax advantages of these gifts, donors can frequently make larger gifts than they ever thought possible.

THE GUIDE TO GETTING INVOLVED

How to get involved?

Lausanne Parent Connections

All parents are members of the parents’ association, Lausanne Parent Connections (LPC). Building relationships among our parents, students and faculty and furthering our mutually beneficial educational partnership is at the core of the work of LPC.

We hope that all parents get involved with LPC through our wide variety of events and opportunities. We start in the fall by hosting the Scholastic Book Fair for a week in October, culminating with the Fall Carnival and Peter Kling ‘86 Memorial Lausanne 5K. Throughout the year we host several faculty appreciation events, most notably the Teacher Appreciation Week in the spring. We also host the annual Auction, which celebrates a different theme each year and brings together parents and alumni for an evening of entertainment and fun. The success of our events relies heavily on our volunteers, and we encourage all parents to get involved in the area that suits your time and talents.

Please see a complete list of volunteer opportunities on page 14.

ALUMNI RELATIONS

Alumni Association

All individuals who have either graduated from or attended Lausanne for at least one year are considered alumni and are automatically members of the Alumni Association. Our spirit lies in inclusiveness, accomplishing our mission through our gifts of time, talent and treasure.

Alumni Board

The Alumni Board meets during the school year and participates in the life of the school in many ways, including sponsoring College Care Packages and volunteering at the Fall Carnival. The Board welcomes and encourages all Alumni Association members to volunteer throughout the year.

Alumni Connection Network

Lausanne’s network of Class and Regional Agents maintains and cultivates the relationship between alumni and the school. Agents take a personal interest in helping others relate to the school, enabling them to renew friendships and strengthen their loyalty to their alma mater. Class Agents are the first line of contact with members of the agent’s graduating class and maintain ongoing communication with their classmates. Regional Agents serve as ambassadors to the alumni who live in the agent’s area, providing information about local Lausanne events.
