Matthew 5:13-16 13 "You are the salt of the earth; but if salt has lost its taste, how can its saltiness be restored? It is no

longer good for anything, but is thrown out and trampled under foot. 14 "You are the light of the world. A city built on a

hill cannot be hid. 15 No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives

light to all in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before

others so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.

Have you ever wondered what truly will make a

difference in the world? In this season of politics, it seems everyone is saying I can, and I am sure if given the opportunity they could. But the truth is

seasons come and seasons go. What makes a lasting difference is not a political movement, but it is a movement that can change hearts, minds, and

souls. It is a spiritual move of God through the lives of those who follow Jesus and his teachings.

In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus gives more than food for thought more than something that will only last for a season.

What Jesus is offering is not an opinion or a

suggestion. When Jesus speaks, we need to listen. Jesus is trying to win over people’s lives in hope they

will transform the work and allow God’s Kingdom to continue to break in. Jesus reminds us that we are the salt of the earth. Salt is valuable and important

not only in the time of Jesus but also today. Jesus reminds us that we are salt.

Jesus says that we are the light of the world. Light

is valuable because it gives life. Without light, there would be no life. Jesus says we are the light of the

world which means we have a message of hope and transformation.

Lastly, Jesus says we are to let that light shine. Let

us use our relationship with Jesus to transform the world.

When we obey Jesus, He will work through us not for

a season, but throughout eternity. If one wants to see the world change, then hearts must be changed. Hearts can change when we share the light of Jesus.

Jesus says by our good works we will glorify our Father in heaven.

So…let your light shine.

Shalom,

The summer break for our wonderful ladies’ ministry, Let’s Do Lunch (LDL), has ended. The first LDL meeting for fall is Tuesday, September 20, 2016, at noon, in the Family Life Center. We are grateful to Caren Ruffner and Patty Crowder for planning interesting, enjoyable programs, spirit-filled devotions, and scrumptious menus for each meeting of LDL.

Ladies, 60 and up, who plan to attend LDL on Tues., Sept. 20th, should turn in your reservation by calling 365-6324 or email [email protected] by Thursday, September 15th.

We congratulate two of our

members who were voted to remain in public office by the citizens of Spring City.

Spring City Mayor, Billy Ray Patton was undefeated by two

challengers, and incumbent Max Douglas was voted to remain as a Spring City Commissioner.

Congratulations to the 2016 Our Fair Lady Pageant winner, Sheila

Larson, who was crowned at the Rhea County Fair on Thursday night, August 11, 2016.

Washington Pike UMC in Knoxville, the date and time

On Thursday night, July 28th, Spring City experienced a huge train derailment

that closed both railroad crossings and several streets and lanes going both

ways on Highway 27. Fortunately for us, we have the overpass that allowed

traffic to keep flowing in and out of town and to Highway 68 up to

Grandview.

We are thankful that there were no injuries, and the box cars were carrying

coal instead of hazardous chemicals.

MOTHER’S DAY OUT (MDO) First Day of Fall Session

There were some new faces at MDO on their first day on Tuesday, August 16th. As you can see, nearly all are smiling. Even if a few tears fell at first, they soon were forgotten by meeting new friends.

If you know of a child between the ages of 2 and 5 who would like to attend MDO, please contact the director, Denisea Johnson, or the church office at 365-6324. This program is a great way for children to get involved with other children and learn new educational things in a classroom environment. Everything is biblically and educationally based. Arts and crafts time is fun for the children and an awesome “hands-on” way for them to learn.

MDO applications are available in the church office.

Two and three-year-olds featured above sitting on the bench in the Fellowship Hall.

Four-year-olds enjoyed riding their tricycles in the Family Life Center.

RETURNRETURNRETURN SERVICE REQUESTED

At 9 a.m., Tuesday, July 26th, fourteen boarded the church bus to journey to Athens, TN, to tour Mayfield Dairy. Nancy Herhold drove her car, and she and Dakota joined the group for the tour.

In spite of adhering to the hair net rule, those who enjoyed the tour were: Pastor Dale, Sherry & Jerry Norris, Sheila Larson, Joel & Betty Barnes, Theresa Slater, Tia & Gary Gilmore, bus driver, Tommy Hale, Pearl Gilliam, Nancy & Dakota Herhold, Patty Crowder, Bob Larson, and David Gilliam. Yummy ice cream was a special treat they shared after the tour. One last stop was made for lunch at Cracker Barrel before the group headed for home.

Thank you to the Parsonage Team for their recent hard work removing the carpet and flooring in the living room, foyer, dining room, kitchen, hallway and den at the parsonage before the installation of the new laminate floors. You can see how much better the floors look now.

We are so very grateful for the contribution of the full amount of the flooring and labor. May God bless you for your love and generosity!
