The American Association of Drilling Engineers “Lafayette Chapter” with special assistance from the “New Orleans Chapter” sponsored a Student Section Day on November 4th, 2006. The event was hosted by Baker Oil Tools at their Super Center in Broussard, Louisiana. Over 120 stu-dents attended this event; Louisiana State University, Nichols State University, University of Lou-isiana at Lafayette, and the University of New Orleans were all represented by their respected Student Sections. Twelve (12) different stations with a variety of Oil Field equipment alone with Service personnel to explain and demonstrate to the students were set up. Students were trans-ported via charter buses and arrived at 9:30 a.m. After donuts and coffee, a safety briefing was held and then students were divided up into groups, a group leader escorted the students to the different stations. A fifteen minute time table was given at each station. A hearty oilfield lunch was prepared and served, i.e. rib eyes, rice dressing, beans and salad. A special acknowledge-ment is given to all who supported this event; Baker Oil Tools, Baker Atlas, Baker Hughes, Halli-burton, Knight Oil Tools, and Offshore Energy Services who provided equipment and service personnel to demonstrate drilling, logging, cementing, casing, fishing and completing of a well. Prior to loading of the buses for the return trip, every student was given a ditty bag which con-sisted of an AADE cap, a Baker Hughes T-shirt, a Halliburton tally book, a Knight Oil Tools pad and pen set, an Offshore Energy Services koozie alone with a number of other memorabilia items. A very successful event was shared by all who attended.

COMMENTS FROM THE STUDENTS, PROFESSORS, AND THOSE WHO ATTENDED THE EVENT

… even students who have been around operations a lot saw new equipment … I especially appreciated that Halliburton brought a cementing truck and Baker At-las had a logging unit … thanks for making this a very successful learning experience for our students … this event tied in very well with the senior drilling class and the junior logging class … the students enjoyed having the opportunity to see such a wide variety of drilling equipment first hand … I can’t began to tell you how impressed I was with the AADE Student Section Event you guys organized … I have heard nothing but the highest praise from all of the students who attended … in all the many years I have been in the industry, it is the finest function for the students I have ever seen … in my opinion, the event ran flawlessly … the lunch was excellent
