The King’s Messenger King of Glory Evangelical Lutheran Church ELCA 6012 River Road Flushing, Michigan 48433
Rev. Bart Muller, Stated Supply Pastor
September, 2018
Proclaiming Christ through Thought,
Word, and Deed!
Pastor Bart Muller
“Stated Supply Pastor”
From the desk of Pastor Muller . . .
Well, summer is almost over, and so we gear up, rise up, and lift up at King of Glory. It is shaping up to
be a busy, busy, busy, time.
Except for October, the sermons for the third Sunday of each month will be Dr. Seuss time: Sept. 16th is
The Cat in the Hat, Oct. 14th, Yertle the Turtle, Nov. 8th will bring The Zax, and Dec. 23, it’s The Grinch.
But wait, there’s more!
On Sept. 17th, Bible Study begins again with a warm-up on the cleansing of Naaman. Then, we will
deal with Paintings of Faith; how paintings can convey great unyielding truths (GUTS). The themes
are, Light and Darkness, Baptism, Coping with Trauma and Loss, Awe and Wonder, Prayer, Divine
Presence, and Strength. After that, during Advent, we will explore the themes of Isaiah’s Advent Lord:
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, and Everlasting Father. But, folks, you haven’t seen anything yet!
Fasten your seatbelts!
On Oct. 6th, we will celebrate the ministry of pets in a special celebration. Bring your pets – furry, scaly,
finned or feathered, for a special blessing. On Oct. 7th, we celebrate our anniversary. The one and only
Bishop Donald Kreiss, your former pastor, will preach. A meal will follow, held here at the church, that
we will share with our brothers and sisters of Messiah, who are celebrating their 60th anniversary. On
Oct. 28th at 10 AM at King of Glory, we will celebrate the continuing Reformation by using Dr. Martin
Luther’s Deutsche Messe (German Mass), followed by a joyous feast.
Don’t forget to celebrate – to come, to help, to be joyful. You have made, and continue to make, a joy-
filled difference in the world – did you know that Pastor Monica Villareal of Salem Lutheran in Flint
was baptized at King of Glory?
Bless you all – Oh, thanks to Ginger and the Spice Girls (you know who you are), the Pastors are still
talking about the great meal you made for them for Pastor’s Conference.
I am in awe of you all.
Humbly,
Pastor Muller

Important Meeting Notice:
Members of our “Transition Team”, for-
merly the “Call Committee”, and Council
members, are asked to attend a meeting
with Pastor Jan Marvar, our Synod’s
“Transition Consultant”, on Sunday, Sep-
tember 9. The meeting will begin as soon
as Pastor Marvar arrives—hopefully right
after worship. At this meeting, Pastor Mar-
var will explain the Synod’s transition pro-
cess, and we will try to arrive at a schedule
for the subsequent meetings that will be
required of the process. It is hoped that all
team members will be able to attend this
important discussion.

Normally, “God’s Work, Our Hands” Sunday is the second Sunday
in September. It is an opportunity to celebrate who we are as Lu-
therans - a congregation, freed in Christ, who wants to serve and
love our neighbor. Since the goal is for our congregation to partici-
pate in a “hands on” community service project, it stands to reason
that ANY date can be used. That being said, the service committee
would like to do several weekly “in gatherings” of socks, personal
hygiene items, beverages, snacks, and recreational items for our
troops. The plan is to pack these items on November 3, to be
mailed out in time for Thanksgiving. We will need parishioner volunteers for the fun
“packing party” - something all of us can do. Please contact me if you are willing to help.
There will also be a sign-up sheet on the Nelson activity room door. Please prayerfully con-
sider how you can help with this project!

Our Flushing Christian Outreach Center
will gladly accept “extra” vegetables from our
gardens during regular business hours (M-T-W-
F, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. and Thursday 12-30 p.m. -
4:30 p.m.). The Center is in downtown Flushing,
on the northwest corner of McKinley and Elm
Streets.
2019 Church Council
A Nominating Committee, consisting of
Felicia Cook, Mike LeBlanc, and
George Stevens, has been selected to
identify candidates to fill the three
seats on our church council that be-
come vacant in January.
Please let one of them know if you are
interested and willing to take your turn
on our Council.
Our Sunday School resumes on
Sunday,
September 16,
and continues
each first and
third Sunday
thereafter.
Bring kids!!!!
Oh boy!
On Sunday,
September 16, Pastor
Muller plans to continue
his series of fun sermons
related to Dr. Seuss clas-
sics. This one will be
about “you know
who” (see image to the
left).
It’s time for a fall
clean-up - both inside
our church building
and the grounds as
well. We will do some
regular indoor house-
cleaning as well clean flower beds and trim
bushes and shrubs. So there will be tasks that
anybody and everybody can do. Please plan to
pitch in on Saturday, September 29, beginning
at 9:00 a.m. See you there? Thanks!
Many thanks to Mike LeBlanc for
his dedication to the maintenance and
upkeep of our church building. Mike
not only gets things repaired, but he
frequently spends numerous hours be-
hind the scenes cleaning the entire
church !
Many thanks to Betty Wittman,
Ginger Gebhardt and Donna Wit-
tock for the nice lunch on Brother to
Brother Sunday, as well as their tasty
treats each and every other Sunday!
