Dede Maddox has blessed FBC in so many ways. When anyone calls or contacts the Pastoral Office at our church, the first voice they hear and the first person they meet is Dede. For so many people, she became the listening ear, the comforting word, and presence of Christ in their lives. How does a church say “Thank You” for beneficent kindness? I would often hear the phone ring in Dede’s office. I could tell by her response that someone had died. At that moment, Dede began to embrace the grieving loved one. She was a vital caring part of the ministry team, and her gentle spirit gave hope and consolation to a person who was in pain. How does a church say “Thank You” for confidential trustworthiness? Almost every day and, for sure, every week, information would come across Dede’s desk that required a high level of privacy and discretion. Our church could always depend on Dede to assess the situation and, with Christian character, allow needs to be met and confidentiality maintained. How does a church say “Thank You” for a willing spirit? When the job description reads, “and other responsibilities as required,” it means who knows what you might be asked to do. In her 25 years of cooperative service, I never heard Dede say, “That is not in my job description.” Whatever the requests and whoever needed support, Dede had a willing spirit. She made our church members feel proud of our faith fellowship as she assisted them in numerous and various ministries. She made our church even more respected in the Augusta community as she welcomed and greeted, with altruism, other churches and civic organizations who inquired about using our facilities. Her willing spirit was such a wonderful asset for which our church is sincerely grateful. How does a church say “Thank You” for such an outstanding and dedicated Christian servant as Dede Maddox? Or course, we all should tell her of our gratitude and appreciation for these faithful 25 years. But may we also bow our head and thank God for sending Dede to journey with us as we have walked together the path of faith. Dede... we are a better church because of your commitment to Christ, and because of your love for First Baptist Church. From the bottom of our hearts, a grateful church says... “Thank You.” Rodger Murchison

Church Wide News & Opportunities

Our local prayer pager supplier was purchased by a national company. The company is out west and we are not getting the level of service we are accustomed to. Therefore, we are moving to a texting format. This is far more economical and gives us national coverage that was not affordable before. So, now you will text “733” to the person on the prayer list to let them know you have prayed for them. Thanks for your prayers and understanding as we transition to this new system.

“THE PIllARS OF THE CHURCH”A Message Series by David Hull

The Vision 2020 process that was completed last year identified four “pillars” of the church through which we might live out our Vision Statement. This Vision states that we are to “Glorify God, as an energized church, to engage the world with the life-changing gospel of Jesus Christ.” As a new church year begins, we will study these four pillars in the hopes that we will become an “energized church,” faithfully fulfilling the vision God has for us as we “engage the world with the life changing gospel of Jesus Christ.” You are invited to join us each Sunday in August as we allow God to shape our church around these four pillars.August 7 “A Discipling Church” John 8:31-33August 14 “A Glorifying Church” Isaiah 6:1-8August 21 “An Inviting and Caring Church John 4:1-30, 39-42August 28 “A Missional Church” Luke 4:16-30

Angela Tom will be leading a one hour CPR and AED Training on Wednesday, July 27 beginning at 5:30 PM in the Fellowship Hall. This training is not for certification, but to give the participants basic training/knowledge on the proper techniques of Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation, along with how to use the Automatic External Defibrillator. We hope that you will take advantage of this opportunity.Safety Tip: When leaving a function, whether it is church or shopping, it is always a good practice to have your keys in your hand as you approach your vehicle. Also, please be attentive and aware while walking in parking lots, of cars backing out of parking spaces. Thanks, Tim Spivey

Dear Church Members,At the Church in Conference held on June 26, 2016, the Church approved the creation of a new ministerial position: the Minister of Contemporary Worship & Technology. The Church also authorized the formation of a Minister Search Committee to recommend to the Church the person to fill this new position. Under the Church’s Bylaws and Standing Rules, a Minister Search Committee shall be a Special Committee approved by the Church in Conference. Nomination of the members of the Minister Search Committee must first be made by a Search Nominating Committee. The Search Nominating Committee, in turn, shall be a Special Committee composed of the Moderator, the Finance Committee Chair, the Committee on Committees Chair, the Nominating Committee Chair and the Ministers Advisory Council Chair. The Moderator may, at his discretion, also appoint a member of the Ministerial Staff as a non-voting member of the Search Nominating Committee. The Search Nominating Committee shall request suggestions for persons to serve on the Search Committee through the Church Newsletter.

Members of the Search Nominating Committee are Moderator Larry Fletcher, Finance Committee Chair Steve McPherson, Committee on Committee Chair Len Collins, Nominating Committee Chair Doug Clepper, and Ministers Advisory Council Chair Perry Sentell. Reverend Kurt Wachtel has been appointed by the Moderator to represent the Ministerial Staff as a non-voting member of the Search Nominating Committee.

The Search Nominating Committee requests nominations from the congregation for those who might serve on the Search Committee for the Minister of Contemporary Worship & Technology. Those nominated should be “persons who have demonstrated by their past participation, a commitment to the activities and ministries of the church.” We also ask that those nominated be able and willing to invest the amount of time required to make this very important selection for the future of our church.Nominations should be addressed to the Contemporary Worship & Technology Search Nominating Committee using the form below.
