Incarnation

Christmas is, rather, the season of Incarnation, the coming of God-made-

flesh and dwelling among us, a mystery that boggles the practical mind and

invites a leap of faith.

What was the Reason to Believe?

The Prophecies of Old!

Micah 5:2 "But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me

one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times."

Luke 2:1-7 (NIV) In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should

be taken of the entire Roman world.(This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.) And everyone went to his

own town to register. So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he

belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child.

While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed

him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

Isaiah 7:13-14 Then Isaiah said, "Hear now, you house of David! Is it not enough to try the patience of men? Will you try the patience of my God also? Therefore the Lord himself

will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.

Matthew 1:18-23 This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she

was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit. Because Joseph her husband was a righteous man and did not want to expose her to public

disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly. But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and

said, "Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins." All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: "The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel"--which means,

"God with us."

Genesis 49:10 The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler's staff

from between his feet, until he (Shiloh) comes to whom it belongs and the obedience of the nations is his.

Acts 10:34-38 Then Peter began to speak: "I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism but accepts men from every nation who fear him

and do what is right. You know the message God sent to the people of Israel, telling the good news of peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord

of all. You know what has happened throughout Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John preached-- how God anointed Jesus

of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil,

because God was with him.

Malachi 2:17-3:1 You have wearied the LORD with your words. "How have

we wearied him?" you ask. By saying, "All who do evil are good in the eyes of the LORD, and he is pleased

with them" or "Where is the God of justice?" (3:1) "See, I will send my messenger, who will prepare the way

before me. Then suddenly the Lord you are seeking will come to his temple; the messenger of the covenant,

whom you desire, will come," says the LORD Almighty.

Luke 2:41-48 Every year his parents went to Jerusalem for the Feast of the

Passover.42 When he was twelve years old, they went up to the Feast, according to the custom. 43 After the Feast was over, while his parents were returning home, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem, but

they were unaware of it.44 Thinking he was in their company, they traveled on for a day. Then they began looking for him among their

relatives and friends. 45 When they did not find him, they went back to Jerusalem to look for him. 46 After three days they found him in the

temple courts, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. 47 Everyone who heard him was amazed at his

understanding and his answers.

Luke 22:52-53 Then Jesus said to the chief priests, the officers of the temple guard, and the elders, who had come for him, "Am I leading a rebellion, that you have come with swords and clubs? 53 Every day I was with you in the temple courts, and you did not lay a hand on me. But this is your hour--when darkness reigns."

Hebrews 11:1-2, 39-40

Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. 2 This is what the ancients were

commended for….39 These were all commended for their faith, yet none of them received what had been promised. 40

God had planned something better for us so that only together with us would they be made perfect.
