ST. CHRISTOPHER’S CHURCH CHESTER, MARYLAND APRIL 4, 2021 The Incredulity of St. Thomas By Giovanni Francesco Barbieri also called Il Guercino (1591 – 1666) Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Happy Easter! We are ALIVE IN CHRIST and CHRIST IS ALIVE IN US—because of His Resurrection we have been reborn in baptism. We cele- brate who we are in this season of Easter because Jesus Christ so generously won for us the Victory, the Victory of Life over death, the Victory and Triumph of the Cross. St. Thomas and his incredulity over the resurrection of Jesus Christ enables us to be assured that there is a reality beyond what can be recognized by human senses – once lived on Earth He now lives in Heaven, how can this be truly perceived? By embracing the Res- urrection of Jesus Christ, His Cross and His commands, we now know the reality in which we are free to live. As brothers and sisters of Jesus Christ and as heirs to the Kingdom of God, not by our merits but by Christ s alone do we enjoy everlasting life. The encounter of the Resurrection and the incredulity of St. Thomas is unfortunately relived throughout all of history since the Res- urrection; it is up to us with Gods grace to reveal what has already been revealed and known by the Apostles after they were told by Mary Magdalene and the other Marys, and after Thomas encountered the wounds of Jesus after Christ s Resurrection. Help all to know that we live in the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. Since He rose from His tomb and sent us His Spirit, we have been able to show others the way to happiness; we are able to live within the Joy of the Father s reception of His Son in glory. We are witnesses to, and the sharers of, what marvels God has made known through His Son Jesus Christ. You and I are made to be perfected by how we imitate the life of Christ. We are resurrected into the reality of Jesus Christ because He has shown us the way to be human as His Father intended at creation. Let us live this renewed state of humanity that Jesus allows Thomas to touch. Let others know of your belief in the Resurrection of our humanity that was established in this eternal act once and for all to know and love God whilst loving humanity. Let us proudly Carry Christ Beyond Our Pews as we bear the Name of Christian and enjoy the patronage of St. Christopher. Let us reveal our beliefs not just with word but also with our deeds and let the world rejoice in the knowledge that Jesus Christ has done mar- velous things in which we become His beneficiaries. Live Jesus is the motto of our Diocesan Patron Saint – St. Francis de Sales. Let us continue to Live Jesus as we share how each one of us has joined in His Resurrection this day and always. Thank you for your continued perseverance in all that challenges us as followers of Jesus Christ; and as we carry the banner of His Resurrection, may each one know with conviction the Resurrection of Jesus Christ this Easter Season and always. EASTER SUNDAY OF THE RESURRECTION OF THE LORD

In the Resurrection of Jesus we find hope and the prospect of everlasting life in heaven. But to obtain eternal life, we must recog-nize Christ’s call to be His witnesses. We must become his obedient servants. The Annual Catholic Appeal, with its theme, “Disciples of Christ, Witnesses of Hope”, brings hope and the good news of Christ’s love to thousands of families and individuals throughout Delaware and the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Funds generated through the Ap-peal help provide critical financial support to more than thirty pastoral, charitable and educational ministries. With continuing impact caused by the pandemic, when employment has dropped and the hardships of the needy have increased, the hope for the generosity of our parishioners is needed more than ever. Many of you have received information about this year’s Appeal through the mail. Please take time to read the materials provided prayerfully considering your response. To learn more about the Annual Catholic Appeal visit the diocesan website at www.cdow.org/annualcatholicappeal.
