Septicsystemsarefailingtomeetstandardsandregulationputinplacetoday.Itisimportantforthesesystemstoworkproperlytoensurethatthewaterqualityoftheseareasdonotbecomecontaminatedbyharmfulchemicals.Thestateshouldrequireallpersonnelwhoeitherneedrepairsfortheirsystemsorneedacompletelynewsystemtogetanupgradedsepticsystemfortheirhome.
Manysystemsinhomestodaywerebuiltbeforenew,necessaryregulationswereputinplace.Theyareoutdatedtotoday’sstandards.Theseoldsystemsdonotproperlyworkinordertoremovecontaminatescontainedinsewage.Repairedsystemsalsolackreliabilitytoperformthistaskandarenotuptonewcode(Unknown).“Mysepticsystemisabout20yearsold,hasneverexhibitedanyproblems,thereareabsolutelynosignsofanyproblemsoutside(nosmells,nodampareas,noexcessivevegetationgrowth),andIhavehaditpumpedoutapproximatelyevery5years”accordingtoSepticHealthResources.

Atwenty-year-oldsystem,pumpedeveryfiveyears,withnosignsofanyproblemscouldstillbepollutingwatersupply.Theproblemwiththisspecificsystemwasthatitwasleakingthroughsoil,downtobedrock,anddownhilltoanearbylake.Thiscontaminationshowednosignsnearthehomeinwhichitwasbuiltforyetitstillmanagedtocovertlycausecontamination("HealthResources").
Theissuemanyfindwithupgradingthesystemsistheabilitytoregulatethemandthecosts.Itmaybehardtorequireeveryonetoupdatetheirsystemsandkeeptrackofwhodidandwhodidnot.Anyonewhoneedsrepairsoranewsystemcouldsimplyberequiredtogetanewsystemwhichisuptocurrentcodes.Thiscouldbecostly.
Allcurrentsepticsystemswillfailorneedrepairsatonepoint.Systemswillalwaysrequireagreatcostinordertoworkproperly.Payingtoupgradethesesystemswillonlyensureabetterqualityandlastingsystem.Thiswillalsobebeneficialtokeepingdrinkingwatercleaner.
