We, as a church, have a wonderful opportunity to enjoy Christian fellowship that is experienced when we gather together as a community of faith. This coming Sunday will be the presentation of "Scrooge: A Musical Valentine Tale" written and composed by our own Debra Rue. It has been a very special treat to participate in the rehearsals and experience people that I know in church in a different and sometimes comical way. I have admired the acting and musical talent of our cast to no end. Once again, do come and bring a friend for an evening of great theatrical satisfaction. Let me share a word of advice. Get here early and take your seat. We are expecting a full house. The date is this Sunday, February 12th, and the show begins at 7 p.m. It has been a great blessing, in the past two Sundays, to preach from two great biblical texts from the Old Testament. I hope we have reflected on how we live our Christian faith. I want for us to know that the greatest example of living the faith is found in Christ. It is Jesus, the Christ, who exercised, through his earthly ministry, the message of the prophets. The prophet Micah reminds of what God requires from us. God's requirements are for us "to do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with our God." Micah 6:8 The prophet Isaiah speaks of the life of reverence to God in Isaiah 58. There, by using the spiritual discipline of fasting, God describes what sacrifice God seeks from us. That is to "loose the bonds of injustice and undo the thongs of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, to share your bread with the hungry, and bring the homeless into your home, to see the naked and cover them, and to not hide yourself from your kin, ... then when we call, the Lord will answer; and when we cry for help, and God will say, Here I am." Isaiah 58:6-9 Let us respond with humility and sincerity to God's invitation to live the Christian life and give bold witness to our faith in God, through the grace of Jesus Christ, in the power of the Holy Spirit. Look for the moment in which you are captured in the moment of responding to others with the love of God. How I look forward to seeing you in the different settings God has in store for us. Raul

Joseph: The Journey To Forgiveness Do you ever find yourself thinking about the wrongs that has been done to you?

Mark your calendar for a new Bible Study by Melissa Spoelstra on forgiveness starting

Sunday, March 5 at 3:30pm. Betty Jo Robinson will be leading the study. This six-

week study will explore what God has to say to us about His grace and forgiveness through the story

of Joseph. Joseph's story of trial and triumph found in scriptures will lead us on his journey to

forgiveness and reconciliation. This study will find truth in our own personal situation and give us

practical help in dealing with hurt and betrayal. I have listen to Melissa and she is a great speaker

and I know this study will help anyone that is or has experience this kind of pain to move on in their

life. But this study will also help anyone taking this study to develop tools to handle and understand

how to forgive others in a faith driven way.

Donations are always appreciated for the

food pantry. However, items must

unopened and cannot be expired. The

food pantry volunteers check for

expiration dates and any items that have

reached their expiration date are thrown away.

Please check before you donate!

The Mayonnaise Jar and the 2 Cups of Coffee

When things in your life seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours in a day are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar and the 2 cups of coffee. A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, he wordlessly picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was. The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed that it was. The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with a unanimous “yes.” The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed. “Now,” said the professor as the laughter subsided, “I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the important things — God, your family, your children, your health, your friends and your favorite passions — and if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full. The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house and your car. The sand is everything else — the small stuff.” “If you put the sand into the jar first,” he continued, “there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff you will never have room for the things that are important to you. Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your spouse out to dinner. Play another 18.There will al-ways be time to clean the house and fix the disposal. Take care of the golf balls first--the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand.” One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee represented. The professor smiled. “I’m glad you asked. It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there’s always room for a couple of cups of coffee with a friend.” - submitted
