Deerfield-based Walgreens is dramatically increasing its Chicago presence — by adding
600 city jobs, building up to a dozen new stores and remodeling 39 existing drug stores
in food deserts to feature fresh fruits and vegetables. Half of the new jobs will be cre-
ated in Chicago neighborhoods, where residents have precious few shopping choices.
The other half will be downtown, where Walgreens plans to add jobs in e-commerce
and information technology. | Source: http://bit.ly/jRBcVH
140 Jobs for MN
Ernst & Young ‟s Minneapolis office is hiring at least 140 new employees during the
next eight months to meet growing demand. About 40 of those hires will be experi-
enced professionals, primarily in the firm‟s advisory, transaction and tax group, com-
pany officials said. It‟s the latest hiring spree by a Twin Cities accounting and consult-
ing office, and follows similar announcements from competitors shaking off the reces-
sion‟s lingering effects. While the number is encouraging, it will only bring Ernst‟s Min-
neapolis staff level back to where it was before the recession. | Source:

Today, Gov. Bobby Jindal and CenturyLink CEO and President Glen F. Post III an-

agreement for CenturyLink to remain headquartered in Monroe, to expand its head-
quarters and to produce 800 new jobs in the state by 2016. These positions will be in
addition to the 350-job expansion announced in late 2009, so by 2016 the incentive

1,000 Jobs for Singapore
As Goldman Sachs (GS) plans major job cuts in the United States, the firm is planning
to expand overseas with a major hiring spree in Singapore and taking the unusual step
of alerting Congress before even it‟s widely known to its own shareholders, the FOX
Business Network has learned. Goldman is so concerned about the potential for criti-
cism that the firm‟s representatives have been alerting staffers of lawmakers in Wash-
ington of the hiring spree in recent weeks as a way to mollify any concerns they may
have about previously undisclosed plans to add 1,000 jobs to the firm‟s Singapore of-
fice, according to people in Washington with direct knowledge if the matter. Goldman
is concerned about criticism because it is adding those jobs while it is planning what
could be a significant retrenchment in its U.S. workforce, these people say. |
