That’s either a good thing or a bad thing depending on what kind of mood you’re in. Ramona Jacobs got us off to a good holiday start during her Sep- tember Boo Halloween shirt class. There was a lot of creativity going on in that room, with different shirt styles, embellish- ments, colors, and design additions. Class was a lot of fun and everyone went home with a completed piece. Thank you, Ra- mona, for an excellent class! We have a full calendar ahead, so please read through this news- letter or check the website for more information. You don’t want to miss out on all of the fun. J Carol Ganzi and Sandy Garcia will continue the holiday theme with their Christmas pro- jects in October and November. We also have project vote and Board of Directors elections to look forward to in November. Please contact Roxanne Walker if you are interested in one of the open Board positions. I will also be looking for volunteers to take on raffles, Mystery Paint-in 2018, and Christmas par- ty 2017. Let me know if you are interest- ed. That’s all for now. Number 10, that’s October! Earth searches for her pillow and a rest

from spring sprouts, summer fruiting and so much sun! We have eight special girls who blessed their families with sweet newborn sighs to brighten their graying skies: Candy Sciarretta, Carol Voyles, Merle Avery, Sandy Garcia, Charlotte Hicks, Bobbie Takashima, Donna Car-

penter, and Cecelia Denton. Be sure to wish them a very happy birth-day when you see them this month!

Entangled

A female humpback whale had become entangled in a spider’s web of crab traps and lines. She was

weighted down by hundreds of pounds of traps that caused her to struggle to stay afloat. She also had

hundreds of yards of line rope wrapped around her body, her tail, her torso, and a line tugging in her mouth.

A fisherman spotted her just east of the Farallon Islands and radioed an environmental group for help. Within a few hours the rescue team arrived and determined that she was so badly off, the only way to save her was to dive in and untangle her. They worked for hours with curved knives and eventually freed her.

When she was free, the divers say she swam in what seemed like joyous circles. She then came back to each and every diver, one at a time, and nudged them, pushing them gently around as she was thank-ing them. Some said it was the most incredibly beautiful experience of their lives. The guy who cut the

rope out of her mouth said her eyes were following him the whole time and he will never be the same. May you and all those you love be so blessed and fortunate to be surrounded by people who will help you get untangled from the things that are binding you. And may you always know the joy of giving

and receiving gratitude.

Remember, if anyone needs some sunshine, let me know.

Sincerely, Teri Hayes

Wanted:

I am looking to “borrow” a smaller camper or RV (less than 30 ft) this December (18-30th) to help provide an extra sleeping area for family members who are visiting from Europe. I have a large yard but too small house, and live on a dead end, private road, with room to park a camper/RV on the side of the house. Our guests (1 adult, 2 teens) just need their own sleeping quarters because we are short on rooms and beds. It’s too expensive for me to put them up in a hotel so I am looking for reasonable options. Please contact me (Charlotte Hicks, 760-739-9575 or [email protected]) if you might be able to help me out. Thank you in advance.

PHP General Meeting September 10, 2016

Meeting called to order at 12:40 by President Charlotte Hicks. Short discussion about the Christmas party. We need to advertise it in the newsletter so members know about it. The cost will be $15. Chapter will underwrite some of the expenses. Food will be catered. There will be a small painting project for members to paint followed by lunch, installation of officers, and (optional) gift exchange. The party will be on the FIRST Saturday of December, the Third. Programs: Submission letters have been sent out to prospective teachers by email. Need to hear back by Oct. 27. Pieces will be chosen at the November 12th paint-in. Seminars: Karen Ortman reported that chapter has a contract with Willow Wolfe for a three day seminar to be held October 27-29, 2017. Friday and Saturday will be one project and Sunday will be a different project. Princeton Brush Company will pay her airfare, hotel and food. She provides the paints – water-mixable oils. Evening meals are open to students who would like to join her. Princeton brushes will be available for sale during the seminar. An idea is for PHP to subsidize a coupon for the brushes, i.e. $15 per student which would only be good for purchase of available brushes during her seminar. There will be a maximum of 40 students per day. Willow Wolfe designs projects in No-vember and December so we will be able to choose the projects in January. Ways and Means: Linda Silvasy and Bobbi Takashima are collecting the pieces. The drawing has been moved to February 2017 and will have approximately ten different pieces in the raffle. These are pieces from some of the “big brushes” throughout the country and this will give us a chance to advertise to other chapters, etc. Kenna Perrin moved that this will suffice for 2016 and 2017 Ways and Means. Teri Hayes seconded. Ramona Jacobs moved to close the meeting at 1:10pm Respectfully submitted, Jeanne Robert, Secretary
