Mr. Dellwo’s class was always open and flowing. He never used his position as a teacher to override a student’s idea or individual thoughts. This positive environment allowed me to accept myself, along with different teaching and learning methods. He is a soft-spoken manwhose values are loud and clear! Mr. Dellwo is honest, respectable, and a hard working educator who cares beyond words. He came to school, on his own time over summer break, for extra tutoring. I feel lucky to have had Mr. Dellwo in middle school. Thank you for the tools you provided me to succeed in life!

He’s guided me since freshman year by offering me priceless adviceand providing me opportunities that have enlightened my educationalperspective. When I first met Terri Johnson four years ago, I did not know how important she would be to me. She has been the biggest influence onmy life starting from my freshman year, pushing me to do the things I didn’t know I could do—by providing a kitchen table for me to get help with homework, guidance and friendship. Without her hard work and dedication I’m not sure I would be able to say that I will be the first in my family to graduate high school. I will forever keep herwords with me throughout college and the rest of my life.

From the first day I entered Miss Schwartz’s classroom, I felt empowered to be myself and explore new ideas and creative thinking. As a science and math person, English is not generally the classroomwhere I am the most enthused, but Miss Schwartz’s college writingclass required a participation that was engaging and meaningful andleft me looking forward to third period every day. Words cannot begin to explain how influential, caring, guiding and motivationalMr. Murgel has been to me and so many other students. He is the epitome of aninfluential role model. He loves his job and students, always giving 100% ofhimself to care for others; it shows on his face and in his actions every day. He has one of the most difficult jobs within a high school, yet he makes it look effortless. Mr. Murgel has inspired me to become a better person in the classroom, on the basketball court, on the softball field and in life. He hashelped me see things in a brighter perspective, regardless of the situation. Mr. Murgel has taught me that nothing is impossible if you really have the desire and will to make it happen. His endless drive, contagious smile and affectionate personality prompt me to strive for greatness. He is constantly reminding me “Don’t be afraid to be great!” I hope someday I influence and touch half the number of people he has. Thank you, Coach Murgel, for helping shape who I am today.

It’s been nearly nine years since I’ve sat in her classroom, but the confidence and support that Mrs. Dagenais has given me is unwavering.I had the privilege of having her teach me and watch me grow for threeyears. She introduced me to an independent pursuit of knowledge with the Montessori program; she always encouraged and supportedcreativity and open-mindedness, and those are two attributes that I take pride in. Mrs. Dagenais created a genuine sense of communityin the classroom, and she made sure each of her students felt special.

She continues to do so even now as I still receive congratulatory lettersfor my accomplishments and even Christmas wishes. She truly makesme feel valued, and I owe much of my academic progress to her.

There are plenty of words one can use to describe a teacher. Inspiring isthe first thing that comes to mind when I think of Mr. Peterson. In the two years I have had Mr. Burkett as a teacher, he has helped meto overcome difficult achievements in math and in life as a whole. Math has never been a walk in the park for me, and I feel that becauseof Mr. Burkett’s skills as a teacher, I have the ability to achieve success. The essay that was required to get into the first year of Honors English was the single reason that I did not take the class, and I hadnever read through a nonfiction novel before taking Ms. Leaphart’sclass. Ms. Leaphart’s class was the first time I was given reason to read creative nonfiction, and to my surprise I actually enjoyed thebooks. The essays became easier as the year went on. I can’t thank Ms. Leaphart enough for forcing me to learn to write and introducingme to the more entertaining side of nonfiction.

Mrs. Broadhead is one of the most relatable teachers I have everknown; she is able to understand her students in ways not many educators are able to. When I first moved to Helena she helped me immensely by introducing me to other students that I otherwise likelynever would have known. She went above and beyond the call of dutyto help me, a student she barely even knew, and I am very grateful for this. She possesses an impressive ability to deal with many personalities and attitudes, and always seems to have situations under control. Students see her as a role model and she inspires many to achieve in the classroom and beyond. These unique traits are what make Mrs. Broadhead an outstanding educator, leader, friend and person.

When I cameto PAL I was really behind on credits and wasn’t on track to graduate.Since getting Jeri as an advisor, she has helped me out in many ways. She’s always encouraging me to do my best and be a positive role modelfor the other students at PAL. She’s helped me succeed in what I needto get done before I can graduate and has never let me fall behind. Everyone needs a Barnes in their life. Not only is she my role model, mentor, and close friend, Lindsay Barnes is my unequivocal once-in-a-lifetime teacher. She has taught me to look closer at our world, question our judgments, andmost importantly, she has instilled in me a compelling desire to explore. Itis largely due to her influence that I am the person I am today, and I cannotthank her enough. She has supported and advised me through many of themost difficult times of my life. Outside of my family, she has been there forme more than anyone else. Throughout high school, she has been my go-to,and “my person.” Among all the great educators, Barnes stands out as onewho has gone above and beyond to make my high school experience exponentially better, and I know she does the same for many others. Knowingher has made me a better person. Every day I strive to do as she would, actas she would, and say what she would. I know that if I can influence half asmany lives as Barnes has, that I will be successful. Thank you so muchBarnes for being my rock and my role model—you are the absolute best.

Through humorous stories and serious labs, Bosch has brought the material of her class to life. She is patient and understanding: two things you have to bewhen teaching a class full of seniors who are just ready to graduate.“Not everything in this world comes easy, but if you want it bad enough, then go get it” is a motto Bosch has instilled in my mind. If somehow a teacher’s success could be quantified into a score, Chuck Bozdog would be in the elite group at the very top of that list.Such has been Mr. Bozdog’s effect on his students that his impact resounds across the nation and even into outer space. She has been there when I needed someone to talk to or help with any of my homework.Mrs. G is a teacher you can go to and tell or ask anything. She is mybiggest cheerleader and always has my back; yet if I need it, she isn’tafraid to kick my butt and get me back on the right track. She has taughtme to believe in myself and my abilities. Mrs. G and her welding classare the reason I am still in school. She truly cares about her students(and if we don’t show up in class, she gets mad about it!)

Mr. Irby set the precedent for me that I had to work hard in high school. His class was certainly challenging at times, but the results were rewarding. Outside the classroom, Mr. Irby was someone I couldalways trust for valuable input and guidance, working closely with me on scholarships and college applications. His course and friendshipprepared me for high level classes in every subject and started me off in the right direction. Thank you for everything, Mr. Irby!

I hope everyone has the chance to be taught by someone with as muchpassion, dedication and experience that Mr. Proctor has. Never have I seen Mr. Proctor begin a lesson without excitement and creativity, making an effort everyday to engage students in life and literature. He truly goes the extra mile in his lessons, striving to expose the hiddenmeaning behind every story, poem and novel. I chose Mr. Proctor as aDistinguished Educator because that is exactly what he is. He has notonly renewed my interest in education, but my interest in life aroundme. I look up to Mr. Proctor for not only being an excellent educator, but for igniting inspiration within his students everyday.

There are not enough words in the English language to describe Mrs. Edwards. She is kind; she is strong; she is caring; but most importantly she is understanding. I would not have the privilege of being a Distinguished Student if it weren’t for her. She has pushedme to go above and beyond when I felt I had nothing left to give. She encouraged me when my heart was breaking and willingly gave advice when I was completely lost. I am who I am because of her, and without her I would never have accomplished the things I have. I am honored to be named a Scholar, but above that I am honored to show the world the amazing teacher that Mrs. Edwards is. She deservesthis honor much more than I do, and I could not be more proud to callher my Distinguished Educator.

I chose Mrs. Humphrey for many reasons. She cares about all of her students very much and if they are having problems, she notices. When they are having problems, she offers for them to talk to her and if they don’t want to, she offers them to talk to someone they feel comfortable with. She treats all people with great respect and asks for nothing in return. She is a great teacher and a wonderful person and I wish that everyone could meet her and be more like her. Although 5th grade seemed like so long ago, I can still remember Mrs. Janhunen’s influence on my education. It was in 5th grade when I decided that I wanted to be a scientist. Her advanced “yo-yo” mathgroup and fast-paced classroom helped to propel me to where I amtoday. Even with a book in my lap, I was able to learn so much in herclass. I still remember my morning history classes well. Walking into theroom, and instantly feeling the temperature drop 10 degrees. We students often complained to him about the frigid environment, but his reasoning was simple. With our class being early in the morning, the fresh cold air would keep everyone awake. That was Mr. Schulte, a no nonsense, to-the-point kind of teacher. He was always good atmaintaining good class debates, whether it was about federalist valuesor a school social norm. He had his own firm opinions, but he always listened to everyone else’s opinions as well. He was willing to help anyone on his own time, and he truly wanted every one of his studentsto excel. Ultimately, Mr. Schulte was a great teacher and role model to not only me, but all his students

Mr. Peterson was my science and math teacher in seventh and eighthgrade at Clancy Elementary School. My favorite memories includemaking him a license plate for his scooter after he had surgery andgroaning with my classmates when he jammed out to the Friday song.Personally, Mr. Peterson has played a huge role in my interest in theSTEM fields. He encouraged me to thrive in my science and mathclasses at a time when most young girls develop a fear of speaking up in those classes. No matter the occasion, Mr. Peterson was able to makeme smile, learn, and laugh...sometimes simultaneously.

There’s no doubt that Mr. Tipton is among the most dedicated and motivational educators in Helena. Teaching with vivacity and unrelenting sarcasm (yes, Mr. Tipton, I accredit my own sarcasm to you), he never fails to offer instruction in both math and in life. Instilling in students not only the ability to think critically, but most importantly to develop strong values, I left his class confident notjust in my mathematical capabilities, but in the way I approach life’sproblems as well. Without Katy Wright, I can genuinely say I don’t know where I’d be. The only certain thing is that I would not be where I am today. I owe all the stories I’ve written and all poems I’ve composed to thehours she spent patiently redirecting my mischievous passions. Learning new concepts and ideas can be very intimidating, but it helps to approach them with confidence and a positive attitude. In Mr. Chart’s math class, the warm, welcoming, and sometimes wacky environment leaves no room for an outcome besides success. His absolute passion for mathematical knowledge is contagious, andhis constant interactions with students provide the encouragement and positive reinforcement necessary for progress and growth. Not onlyis Mr. Chart an excellent educator, but he is a kind and generous friendas well. On multiple occasions, he has helped me with the college application process by taking time out of his day to write letters of recommendation, showing that he cares for the future success of hisstudents. Mrs. Funk’s incredible and out-of-the-box teaching style can be best summarized in her yearly routine of walking into class one day, andspeaking in Italian for the first 5 minutes of class to show her studentswhat it was like for Native American students in boarding schools in the early 1900s. Every project that she had us do not only made us learnabout history, but live it; whether it was re-enacting historical figures of the 1800’s west, or making us write newspapers about the Civil Warera, or even making us propose, argue and vote on bills in our ownmock Congress. Her time as a representative proves her passion forwhat she teaches, and inspires all of her current and past students. The most important aspect her teaching had on me, however, was her ability to make me ask ‘why?’. She has inspired not only my love of history, but my passion and drive in everything I do.

Where do I even begin? Mr. McKim was my freshman earth scienceteacher. My transition into high school was very unsettling for me as myfirst period teacher, he was always the first one to ask how I was doing. No matter what the situation was, he was right there to offer advice or justlisten. Not only is he an excellent teacher in the classroom, but even in the hallways, he makes sure to give me a high-five and tell me I’m the best.He has done a lot for me in the past four years, from my freshman yearhelping me break out of my shell to my senior year helping me apply forcollege scholarships, even sometimes at 7:30 in the morning before theyare due. Mr. McKim has inspired me to be the leader he is and the personwhom others can depend on. He has had such a positive impact on my life that I will never forget what a passionate teacher and role model he is. I knew from day one that choir was going to be one of those classes that transcended the bounds of what was written in the student handbook. It had something to do with the teacher, Mr. Baty. That kind of enthusiasm and drive can’t be properly described in writing, nor can the atmosphere of the class be felt without actually experiencing it in person. All I can say is that Mr. Baty brings the class beyond the singing. The level of respect he has for his studentsand willingness to listen to his students is truly extraordinary. My past two years of high school have been strange, moving fromKalispell to Helena, back to Kalispell, only to wind up in Helena again. However, during that time I was fortunate enough to have Ms. Holland as an educator. She was able to teach difficult material, but still managed to make it fun for the class.
