CANADA WEST FOUNDATION (CWF) INFRASTRUCTURE REPORT

The Canada West Foundation (CWF) is in the final stages of releasing a report that makes a case for continued investment in infrastructure projects by federal and provincial governments.

This effort was initiated by the MHCA at the Canadian Construction Association's Civil Infrastructure Council committee and its development was managed by Chris Lorenc, MHCA President along with Bill Ferreira, Director of Government Relations and Public Affairs from the CCA. The focus of the report will be on core infrastructure such as roads, bridges and sewer systems and the productivity associated with public investment.

WINNIPEG TRANSPORTATION AUTHORITY

MHCA attended a meeting of the City's Infrastructure Renewal and Public Works Committee (IRPW) meeting held January 11, 2013. On its agenda was consideration of a report addressing the 'Winnipeg Transportation Authority Terms of Reference.'

It recommended a review proceed to consider ONLY funding models and NOT governance structure.

DAN VANDAL TO ATTEND TRANSPORTATION COMMITTEE MEETING

City Councillor Dan Vandal has accepted an invitation to attend round table discussions with the Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce Transportation Committee which is chaired by MHCA President, Chris Lorenc. The purpose is to update around the following topics areas which fall within the committee's mandate and priorities:

Status of implementation of the Transportation Master »Plan (TMP) as adopted and amended by Council

Status of the outstanding recommendations of the »Mayor's Trade Council (MTC) Report in particular the notion of identifying trade routes to support Winnipeg's trade and transportation economies.

Status of the City's consideration of a Transportation »Authority flowing from the Committee's deliberations of January 11, 2013.

Matters arising out of the above. »

The numbers for the tours, fishing, and golf are filling up »but the Behind the Scenes tour may be dropped due to low numbers.

Heavy Construction Education EXPO

Exhibitors’ packages have been circulated to those who »were exhibitors last year, the member suppliers and any other inquiries MHCA has received.

Sponsorship packages have been mailed to the »membership. In addition letters were sent to the Workers Compensation Board and Manitoba Infrastructure & Transportation. MHCA will be doing follow up phone calls in the next couple of weeks.

Please be advised that the schedule for a third Hydro transformer move has been confirmed as follows:

Day 1—Sunday, January 27th : 8:00 p.m.

Day 2—Monday, January 28th : 6:00 p.m.

Day 3—Tuesday, January 29th : 7:00 p.m.

As was the case during the first two moves, inclement weather, hazardous road conditions or any other unsafe situations will result in a delay or cancellation of the move.

Alternate rest stops have been identified should there be delays during the move, or emergency situations arise, to ensure compliance with the 6:00 am stop time.

All preparations/plans that were set in place for the first two moves should be reactivated. All permit conditions remain the same.

Tim Brown, Director of Motor Carrier Enforcement Program, will continue to be the liaison for the law enforcement group and will coordinate the escort services.
