the Future is unwritten

Way Out Westby Paul Hodson

Two men walk into a pub - and then it stops being normal.

Pints are drunk; conversation spans the creation of the universe, the meaning of happiness, the chemical construction of pork scratchings – and how they seem to know more about each other than complete strangers could, or should. And they both seem to recollect dreams in which they met Laurel and Hardy, and each other.

As the alcohol kicks in Simon and Peter find themselves lurching towards an unnerving philosophical and spiritual world, where it becomes a distinct possibility that they are Laurel and Hardy reincarnated... but that’s simply laughable, absurd and beyond comprehension – isn’t it?

A funny and tender play from the company who created the recent hit Meeting Joe Strummer.

Bringing together the electricity, political edge and pure entertainment of his plays, songs, and poems, this is thought provoking, moving and laugh-out-loud funny. The evocative music of Kurt Weill draws on the Berlin cabaret and Jazz scene of the thirties – Mack the Knife, Surabya Johnny, The Alabama Song – songs which recording artists have been queuing up to cover from Sinatra to The Doors, from David Bowie to Sting.

With rare insights gained from working with Brecht’s own company, the Berliner Ensemble, Sue Pomeroy has created this powerful and fascinating drama documentary.

Comedians is a funny and shocking play about laughter.

Set in 1975 before alternative comedy took over the world, 6 comedians are on their last night of an evening class for stand ups.

Their teacher is an ex-music hall comic (who stopped laughing in 1945). He has tried to show them how comedy can be revolutionary but some still just want bums on seats and jokes that make audiences laugh whatever the cost.

Julian Clary is looking for love and he’s not leaving town empty handed…

Master of camp Julian Clary is scouring the land in search of love. He’s promised to leave no straight unturned. ‘Because I’m still considered to be quite a catch and because your town is noted for its heterosexuals on the cusp, there’s bound to be stiff competition’, says Julian. ‘Therefore I’ll be hosting ruthless elimination games. You can be sure of one thing. By the end of the evening, we’ll all be celebrating my new partnership.’
