WILMINGTONA Wilmington job with the help of our Major Projects Division, lifting part of a lime kiln at a paper mill. It is 25ft in diameter and 49ft long, weighing approximately 215 tons. The scope of the job was to lift out the old unit, place it on storage stands, pick it up with the Goldhofer transporter, haul to a remote laydown area, lift it off the trailer with gantries and set it on supports and then do the reverse of all of that with the new kiln section. In addition to performing the lifts, they also designed, fabricated and tested a specialized lifting frame to be able to handle the piece with the two cranes we had available – the Manitowoc MLC 300, 330 ton Crawler with Durkie Jacobs operating and the Linkbelt 298HSL, 250 ton Crawler with Mike Bird operating.

Otis McGlothlin, previously a Marine and Baltimore’s Rental Coordinator, is taking on the new task as Sales Rep-resentative in the Baltimore office. Congratulations Otis!

W. O. Grubb’s newest acquisitions of two Liebherr LR1300SX, 330 ton Crawler Cranes will make an outstanding addition to an already remarkable fleet of cranes. The Liebherr LR1300SX, 330 ton Crawler Crane is equipped with 344 feet of main boom and 206.7 luffing jib. This Crawler Crane is designed for lift capacities and comes with lightning rods on the boom to protect the computer system. It’s all equipped with a vertical finder on the tip of the boom to find the center of the load which makes it a much safer crane for the operator.

After serving W. O. Grubb in the role of Vice President of Engineering and Administration for the past five years, Jeff Collins stepped down to pursue the development of his own consulting engineering practice, RLT Engineering Solutions, LLC. However, Jeff Collins will continue to work very closely with Grubb to help address engineering needs. At the same time W. O. Grubb is sad to see Jeff Collins leave the company, we are pleased to help Jeff realize a long-time dream of his!

On May 10, 2016, Mike “Silky” Sullivan lost his battle against cancer. Not only was Silky a part of our Grubb Family, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. Mike was a true craftsman of his trade and second to none as a crane operator mentoring many oilers and other operators along the way. Mike has been a member of the W. O. Grubb family since 1987 and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
