Dear Parents / Carers,
It is hard to believe that we are rapidly approaching the end of the academic year and, as our Year 6 children prepare to make the big step to secondary school, we look forward to our new intake of Foundation Stage children joining us at The Grove in September. To celebrate their primary school years, Year 6 are now working hard preparing for their end of year production ’Rock Bottom’. Further details on how to buy tickets will follow soon.
This week we have welcomed our new Foundation Stage children into school for their induction visits and it was lovely to see our new children full of excitement as they prepare to join us at The Grove.
Unfortunately, two of our chickens, Lucky and McFlurry, had to visit the vets on Thursday. They were star patients, who were treated by a lovely vet - a past pupil of The Grove! The chickens are now being cared for at Mrs Tozer's home over the weekend. Early signs are good - they are both eating and drinking well and seem much happier. We hope they will be back with their friends very soon.
On Monday, many of our lucky Key Stage 2 children spent the day at The Hidden Woods in Bath taking part in the final workshop of the musical opera project, Hansel and Gretel.
They joined in with songs which they had learnt throughout the project and they experienced the magic of joining in with live theatre in a lovely outdoor setting.
Please see overleaf for more photographs.

Mrs McPherson would like to say how proud of the Hansel and
Gretel Opera group she is. We all had an exciting morning in The Hidden Woods, Bath on Monday
where we were able to watch professional singers performing this well known story. We even
got to join in with some of the songs!
Feedback from the children says that this whole experience will stay with them
forever.
There will be a snapshot of video on our Facebook
page soon!
Firehouse Productions performed ‘Say No Or Say Nothing’ to our
Key Stage 2 Pupils on Wednesday afternoon.
This was a powerful, relevant and humorous production which
delivered a strong message to raise children’s awareness about
how to keep themselves safe, including online.
We would like to congratulate Lottie F, Lily D (Year 2), Lily-Mae S and Amber D (Year 5) on their recent achievements at the Trowbridge Club Swimming Championships!

Amber was awarded 2 silvers, competing in a fantastic 10 races overall and Lily-Mae competed in 8 races achieving 4th place!

This week in Year 1 we were transported around the word through the power of virtual reality.
As part of our Topic ‘Up, Up and Away’ we visited Iceland and got to wonder at the incredible Northern Lights. We also had the opportunity to travel to the other side of the globe and experience an amazing waterfall in Vietnam.
Great fun was had by all!
Mrs Bagnall needs an old baby bath for one of the stalls at the Summer Fete!
If you have an unwanted baby bath at home please pop it into the school office.

This week we welcomed the new vicar of St John’s to The Grove.

Sun Safety
The forecast for next week is currently looking very hot.
Please make sure all children have a named sun hat and a refillable water bottle in school every day. We kindly ask that, where possible, a 12 hour sun cream SPF is applied to children before school. Children may bring their own named bottle of sun
cream to school which they may apply themselves at break and lunch times.
Please click here to view our Sun Safety Policy.
An important reminder for Year 4 Parents
As you know, Year 4 children will be visiting Hope Nature Centre on Wednesday 27th June.
School uniform is not required for this trip and old clothes may be worn. Please ensure children are well covered, no bare shoulders and no vest tops. Children will need to be provided with plenty to drink
throughout the day to stay hydrated in the heat and they must have a named sun hat please.
Sun cream must be applied before coming to school, preferably a 12 hour SPF, please also provide a named bottle of sun cream which the children can apply themselves throughout the day. Please ensure children are wearing sensible shoes which are suitable for a very busy day and no flip flops or sandals
please.
Thankyou for your help in ensuring a fantastic, fun filled day!
The National Online Safety Team have published a free guide about ‘Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds’ (PUBG) - a game played by millions of
children and young people worldwide.
This guide informs parents and carers about the risks of letting their children play PUBG and how you can help keep
children safe online. We have attached the guide as a separate document with this newsletter.
If you have any concerns or worries about keeping your children safe online please speak to Miss Denmeade our
E-Safety Lead or Mrs Wilkins, Designated Safeguarding Lead.
Recently, one of our Key Stage 2 pupils, Angelo, had to call the emergency services at home when his mum was taken very ill. Angelo was able to call 999, whilst remaining very calm, he gave his full home address and details of the problem while taking very good care of his younger sibling until help arrived. We are all very proud of Angelo and his outstanding maturity - his mum thinks that he is amazing. We think this is very a good reminder on the importance of teaching
children their address and postcode from a young age. It is also important that children know how, and when, to call 999 if a grown up isn't able to. Here are some useful pointers you may like to share with your children:
Make sure you are safe before calling 999, particularly in the case of a house fire. Leave the house before calling 999. Remember the fire safety rules: Get out, stay out and call 999. Don't stop to pick up your valuables or go back into the house until it is safe to do so.
Don't be scared about calling 999 - the emergency services are there to help you and are used to taking calls from children. They will guide children and offer their support as you wait for help to arrive.
To help the ambulance or fire service understand where you are and what has happened, speak as clearly and calmly as you can. Try not to rush your words or the operator won't be able to understand you. Don't hang up until the operator tells you to. The operator needs to have all the info they need to get help to you a quickly as possible.
Make sure children know their full address including the postcode.
Weekly and Whole School Attendance
This week our whole school attendance has improved at 96% which is much better.
There were 18 sessions missed this week due to unauthorised holiday and 118 sessions missed this week due to illness.
A huge well done to Silver Birch and Walnut as they both have 100% attendance this week….. Keep it up!
We have recently published ‘An
Attendance Guide for Families’ on our school
website.
