What’s New @ MACgreen? McMaster Forest Hike: On October 13th, 2012, MACgreen hosted a hike in McMaster Forest. McMaster Forest is a 115 acre property located just off of Wilson St. W.

Dish It Out! is a program designed to help make events waste free. We have a large selection of dishes and cutlery that can be rented out for anything from large events to small meetings. The program can benefit YOU in two ways: 1. Environmental: Dish It Out! eliminates the need to use single-use table settings, therefore reducing waste! 2. Economic: Single-use table settings can be costly, for both your wallet and the environment. This program only accrues a small fee for dishwashing costs.

“Environment Ministers Announce Agreements to Reduce Smog & Improve Air Quality”

Air quality standards are being updated for the first time in 20 years, including proposed reductions of sulphur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, and other VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds), which contribute to smog.

Industries across Canada will have guidelines that set limits on the presence of certain air contaminants in the atmosphere, and industrial requirements that govern emissions from different sectors.

Small Victories for Environment Hamilton: ArcelorMittal-Dofasaco Emission Problems

Environment Hamilton has been sending regular reports & pictures of Hamilton’s industrial area to provincial Environment Minister Jim Bradley and to Deputy Minister Gail Beggs. DM Beggs recently sent back a response explaining that “...our District staff have been on-site at AMD a minimum four days week for the last number of weeks for the purpose of monitoring and recording emissions, and following up on issues.” There have been some minor reductions in the severity and/or frequency of the emissions however the current level of emissions are still out of compliance.

Feel free to take the time to send a quick note to the Minister of the Environment at: [email protected] to let him know that you want the Ministry to keep the pressure on AM-Dofasco to make the necessary mitigation upgrades in order to restore the environment and keep citizens of Hamilton safe!
