    HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE WEEK OF JANUARY 9 - 13:y We read Iguana on Ice and My i book, added many pictures to our letter Ii Ziploc

    baggie and learned the two sounds the letter Ii makes (please review this sound with meat home, in the car, or in the bathtub!).

    y We made our letter i into an igloo using marshmallows!y We added three new words to our word wall for the letter Ii: I, is, it.y We practiced our long and tall straight lines to prepare us for practicing our lower and

    upper case I.

    y We practiced writing upper and lower case Ii.y We wrote our name with invisible ink (baking soda & water) and then revealed our

    message with grape juice!

    y We read through our letter Ii book and circled all the letter Iis.y We practiced writing our names, the #2 and two.y We learned about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. from a beautifully written book, Martin

    Luther King, Jr. A Biography for Young Children by Carol Hilgartner and BarbaraMetzger. We learned Dr. King dream was for peace and friendship for all. We made

    Wings of Peace (dove), enjoyed some friendship punch and learned a new song toremember Dr. King by (words at the end).

    y We practiced counting by tens with our crazy for corn sheet.y We worked on our visual discrimination with our party hat pairs. This was difficult for

    most of us so we will be working on this some more throughout the next few months.

    y We had a great time experimenting with ice, colored water and salt! Ask me what happenwhen we filled our eyedroppers with colored salt water and dropped it on the ice.

    y We learned what penguins would write to each other if they were able to as we readthrough our Scholastics Lets Find Out.

    yWe played Penguin, Penguin, Wheres your fish?

    y We practiced our counting (and eating) skills as we counted out the correct number offish to feed our penguin.

    y We tried our hand at fishing. As we caught each fish we told our friend what letter wecaught and then fed it to our penguin.

    y We continued to count by 2s up to 20 and learn My Country Tis of Thee.y We learned two new Sing & Spell sight word songs: two and three (words below).y In Spanish, our theme has been around the home. We have learning how to say many

    different things all around our home.

    y During Storybook Caf, we read North Country Night by Daniel San Souci and madeWinter Nibbles!
