All Saints Sunday
November 5th
On All Saints Sunday we will remember the saints that
died this year as well as loved ones who have been
witnesses to us of God’s love and presence in our lives.
Come and join us as we remember and give thanks!
Thanksgiving Dinner Nov 5th
In addition to giving thanks for the saints
in our lives and on whose shoulders we stand, we will
also give thanks for the blessings we have been given –
all gifts from God! We will gather after worship for the
annual Thanksgiving Dinner. CLCW will provide the
meats and drinks. Everyone else is asked to bring a side
dish or dessert to add to the feast.
The CLCW Business meeting and election begins
immediately following worship.
Thanks CLCW for hosting us again for Thanksgiving
Dinner and for the amazing work you do!

CONGREGATIONAL ADVOCACY TEAM We are forming a Congregational Advocacy Team that will keep us informed about calls for action in prayer or
in personal advocacy from the ELCA and SES Advocacy Unit and also aware of the needs and concerns that are
relevant to our community and state that impact the wellbeing of God’s people. If you would like to serve on
this team, please contact Dawn Bennett or Pastor.
November 21st Called for a time such as this
Prayer ….Fasting…Advocacy
In partnership with Bread for the World, The ELCA and the Episcopal Church call us to a time of prayer,
fasting and advocacy to work to end hunger and poverty.
We fast to fortify our advocacy in solidarity with families struggling with hunger. We fast in solidarity
with our neighbors who suffer famine, who have been displaced, who are vulnerable to conflict and
climate change. We fast with immigrants trying to make a better future for their families and now face
the risk of deportation. We fast in solidarity with families on SNAP, who often run out of food by the last
week of the month.
Presiding Bishop Michael B. Curry of the Episcopal Church and
Presiding Bishop Elizabeth Eaton of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
Please pray for those who live in poverty and consider a fast to remind yourself of their plight on this day. As
our legislators consider budget decisions remember the poor and the great need for SNAP and other programs
that have helped families exist at the poverty line. This month please also consider giving a financial gift to the
NOTE FROM PASTOR
Greetings, holy ones, beloved of God…
This past week white supremacist groups marched in our communities bringing
with them a message of hate and division. Martin Luther King, Jr. once said
“Darkness cannot undo darkness; only light can….only love can.” It is in times
like these that we are called to bear the love of Christ in and through our
presence and actions. The cross stands in stark contrast to the beliefs and goals
of white supremacy and the bigotry it bears out into the world. A Palestinian
Jew, the Son of God, Jesus the Christ out of divine love for all of us, died for all
of us! In Christ our faith and our hope is centered and grounded.
So what are we to do in the face of that which so blatantly renders hate and
division? We are to look to the cross and remember we follow a very different
King, called to live in a different reign….Baptized into Christ, let us remember
our baptism and our baptismal call:
+ to live among God’s faithful people;
+ to hear the word of God and share in the Lord’s Supper;
+ to proclaim the good news of God in Christ through word and deed;
+ to serve all people, following the example of Jesus;
+ to strive for justice and peace in all the earth...
Let Christ be our light and lens in the world.
And let us be witnesses of Christ love reflecting
that in our lives…

hunger across the globe. In light of the recent floods here in our country in Texas and Louisiana and in Asia and
India clean water and food will be in great need.

SANTA’S WORKSHOP IS COMING SOON!! …and Santa is Looking for Elves! On December 2, the parish hall will transform to Santa’s Workshop. This event provides a way for our children
to learn the valuable lesson of giving. We need volunteers to help the children make gifts to give their parent,
sibling, grandparents, etc.
There will be several stations for gift making, a wrapping center (we have plenty of wrapping paper) and lunch.
The kitchen is staffed but we are in need of helpers for the wrapping station and crafty folks to work with a
craft.
We are looking for fabric to make teddy bears and volunteers to sew prior to the event.
Are you interested? Please see Dian Luffman (615) 712-3244 or Pastor Gordy.
SEMINARIAN FUND
YOUTH AND CHILDREN SUNDAY SCHOOL UPDATE We are grateful to have two wonderful teachers for our children every Sunday for Sunday School and for care
of children up to age 5 during worship. Lindsey and Noella Ndunga work together teaching, in English and
Swahili, Bible Stories and helping our youngest youth to engage the stories of our faith. We are using Holy
Moly, a unique Sunday School curriculum from Augsburg Fortress that includes a video that is not language
based which is very helpful in our multi-lingual class setting! And it is fun, too! Bring your children. 9am
Sunday mornings.
ADULT BIBLE STUDY – EVERY SUNDAY Come at 9am and join us for a deeper look at the Gospel for that day…
Dawn Bennett
Marci Wilson-Boggs
We have established a fund to assist our seminarian with the costs
for seminary education. The courses and fees can be quite expensive
and help is often needed to meet the costs required. We are blessed
with two seminarians preparing for ministry. Both are trying to
work and study at the same time. Prayerfully consider providing
funds to help them with their seminary preparation. Preparing
leaders for tomorrow takes us all!
