Community Service has been busy the last couple months with some terrific hands on projects.
LA JOLLA GOLDEN TRIANGLE ROTARY
COMMUNITY SERVICE
Some of these projects are new to our club and others we’ve been participating in for over 20 years. Thus far, we’ve completed four out of our 14 projects we have planned, so we still have a lot ahead of us.
The four we’ve completed are: the CCSA Holiday Baskets by Father Wayne, one of the visitations to the VA Hospital that Alan Galgut heads up, the YMCA OZ House d e c o r a t i n g p r o j e c t l e a d b y R o t a r i a n E x t r a o r d i n a i r e , J i m
Davies, and lastly our newest project, painting at the Senior Education and Active Living facility of San Diego OASIS .

SOME OF THE GREAT P R O J E C T S W E H AV E C O M I N G U P A R E
--------------------------- •Miramar Food Locke, led my Fary. The club collects food and other essential items for local military families.
• T h e r a p e u t i c H o r s e m a n s h i p : led
by Cynthia Villis and Louise Andres. This project bring children with handicaps to spend a day at a ranch learning and riding horses. It is a tremendous project to be involved with.
• The last project, we will highlight will be led by Father Wayne and his daughter Capt. Joy. We will hear more about the project from Capt. Joy, but it will have something to do with the VA Shelter. It sounds like it will require
club participation and should be a lot of fun.
• Our ideal project is one that makes a difference in our community, requires members to participate if possible, and one that leaves a lasting impression in the lives we impact and our own. Please join us for one of our meetings on the last Friday of every month right have the club meeting and please feel free to approach us with any projects you have in mind.

4 WAY TEST
For Rotary, The Four-Way Test is the cornerstone of all action. It has been for years, and it will be in the future. Of the things we think, say or do
As Rotarians, we should have The Four-Way Test in mind in every decision we make, all day long. Our utmost responsi-bility is to Speak The Truth, to Be Fair, to Build Goodwill and Better Friendships, and to do our very best in all situations.
4 Way Test was developed in 1932 by
Herbert J. Taylor.
---- 1 ---- Is it the TRUTH?
---- 2 ----Is it FAIR to all concerned?
---- 3 ----
Will it build GOODWILL and
better FRIENDSHIPS?
---- 4 ----Will it be BENEFICIAL
to all concerned?

AUCTIONFEB. 06, 2015: LIVE
President Ron Kohl called the meeting to order in the Braille Institute at 12:15 Friday afternoon. The Invocation was given by Ms. Fleming from the La Jolla Noon Club. This joint meeting of the five La Jolla area Rotary Clubs was a chance to hear a notable Past President of Rotary International talk about the need for visionary leadership. The meeting itself achieved one of Ron’s goals for his presidency, reinstituting annual joint Club meetings after a prolonged hiatus. It was enlightening to hear the history, accomplishments and goals of each club from their President, whether Past, Present or Elect. Each Club is clearly unique, and the spirit of Rotary shines clearly through them all.
It also shines clearly through Past Rotary International President Luis Vicente Giay. Luis was introduced by Steven Brown, a very active Rotarian at every level of our organization. Luis’ reflections on visionary leadership are clearly informed by his compassion, dedication and long experience as Chairman and a Member of RI’s Future Vision Committee.
He made three strong points in an evocative presentation. Both Rotary and the world have changed enormously historically and continue to change rapidly as we move into the future. Rotary has made great and well-recognized achievements in raising funds and implementing programs to eradicate polio around the world. We have also moved ahead socially to the point where about 38% percent of our leadership positions are
held b y
w o m e n although they
only constitute around 20% of our total membership. That is progress, but it is certainly not enough. Rotary must keep up with the challenges to come or we will be in a dangerous position.
His second point was that only visionary leaders will be able to guide our organization through these challenges. Those leaders must be able to draw out the best in us. They must have
a solid team identifying the challenges ahead. They must be able to look ahead over the horizon while keeping their feet firmly on the ground. They must be unafraid to dream and imagine; both confident and objective.
His final point was that Rotary can do even more
and will need more resources. The Rotary Foundation has increased substantially. Population demographics suggest that the next 25 years will
see a great opportunity to increase philanthropic
bequests. The Rotary Foundation needs to move to share appropriately in that opportunity. The field of philanthropy is evolving as well. Four Swiss banks have begun offering to sell community projects for customers. Bill Gates was quoted as saying philanthropy is not for amateurs anymore. But philanthropy is also not all about big donors either. The internet can democratize philanthropy. Luis closed with this quote from an Argentinian philosopher, “the only ones who deserve to be called idealists are those who struggle for a better world while living in an imperfect present.”

I am currently a Commercial Center Manager for TCI Tire Centers, LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Mi-chelin Tires, NA. I have lived in San Diego for four years, coming here for this job. Prior to joining TCI, I was the Western Regional Manager for the Richard Petty Driving Ex-perience. I worked for RPDE for 12 years, living in Charlotte, NC, Atlan-ta, GA and Las Vegas, NV.
I was born in Fitchburg, MA and was raised in Concord, NH by my parents, Bob and Pixie Stocking. Having celebrated their 52nd wed-ding anniversary this past June, they reside in Chapel Hill, NC. I have two
older brothers, Bob Jr. and Matt. Bob and his wife Vicki live in Cha-pel Hill, NC and Matt and his wife Eileen live in Greenville, SC. I am an uncle and ridiculously spoil my nephew Bobby (21) and nieces Val-erie (19), Samantha (14) and Mag-gie (13).
I attended Santa Clara University, outside of San Jose, CA; graduating in 1990 with my BA in English. I played rugby for SCU. Last year, I at-tended Michelin NA’s premier lead-ership training program. Annually, Michelin selects ten high-potential candidates to attend its rigorous, three-month, MBA-style leadership
training program. Based at Michelin Sales Training Center in Greenville, SC, participants complete high-level project work and gain exposure to Michelin NA executive management team.
I support second-chance dogs, having rescued two in the past five years. My current best friend, Chappo (pictured), is a street dog from Ensenada and we spend a lot of time together at Dog Beach. If not at the beach, you can find me on the fairways and greens of San Diego’s many terrific golf courses. My favor-ites are Torrey South and the Navy’s Sea & Air on Coronado. To stay fit,
I swim before work at the Mission Valley YMCA. I donate money to Coastal Keepers, Pet Food Stamps and Santa Clara University.
I absolutely love San Diego and, after living all over the US, wish to remain here. I continue to turn down job offers from TCI because I feel strongly about establishing roots here. Joining the La Jolla Gold-en Triangle Rotary Club is an excel-lent opportunity to do so. I look for-ward to getting to know each of you.
