Status of the Universal Catalog:

• Currently running Voyager 2001.1

• Upgrade to Voyager 2001.2 being done by Endeavor

• Patches for Voyager 2001.2:

• Repair “exclude” location problems for exporting records to the UC.

• Create 020X De-duping Rule for the 020|a (ISBN)

• Create 035|a check script for PreBulk process:

• Delete all numeric only 035|a tags - 123456

• Delete all non-numeric only 035|a tags - (OCoLC)

• After Voyager 2001.2 and associated patches are installed for the UC:

• Endeavor will load 4 selected libraries to test patches

• Following acceptance of the patches by USG, the UC database will be reloaded for all 35 libraries.

Bibliographic Record:

• One bibliographic for each unique record

• Records are added/updated/deleted based upon the update schedule

• Bibliographic Hierarchy determines which record is used

• Record type (008 tag)

• Institutional survey by Cataloging Committee

• Why there will always be duplication in the Universal Catalog

• 856 tag guidelines:

• If resource is an open/non-password site link goes here

• If resource is restricted add a pseudo 856 tag

MFHD Record:

• One MFHD for each institution

• Contains local bib record Bib-ID number for associated bib record

• Contains OCLC symbol to identify owning institution

• When UC bib record displayed all associated MFHD information is retrieved from the owning libraries’ database

• 856 tag guidelines:

• If resource is licensed by institution link goes here.

Searching the GIL Universal Catalog:

• Just like searching other GIL catalogs

• Quick Limits allows for finding items owned by a specific institution

• Institutions listed/displayed in alphabetical order

• Bibliographic record display

• Includes a list of “Owning Libraries”

• Status information for each institution’s holdings is real time

• Hot linked “Institution” - provides information about institutions/libraries

GIL Express and the GIL Universal Catalog:

• Only remote way of making a GIL Express request

• Library selected to provide a requested item is random

• In Voyager 2001.2 only Pick-up locations will be shown to Patron

GIL Express and the GIL Universal Catalog:

GIL Express process in the UC:

• Search and select an item for GIL Express processing

• Check provided status to make sure at least one copy is available

• Click on “Request” button

• Authorize processing by logging into the GIL Express Request system:• Select your Home institution from the menu• Provide the appropriate ID – choose from drop down menu• Provide your Last Name

• Enter your ID number in the Request Form

• Select the Institution where you wish to pick-up the item

• Select the Pick-up Location at that Institution you desire

• Item will be requested from Library and when it has arrived you will be notified.
