The Apostle Paul spoke clearly about themission on which God had set him, to“preach the gospel, not where Christ hasalready been named.” Churches often makea grave mistake in ignoring Paul’s hearthere. “Church growth” in this country con-sists largely of convincing someone to leaveone local congregation and come to anotherone. Paul would not have approved. As theBody of Christ, our outreach needs to befocused on the un-churched, not the unhap-pily churched.

The way we do this is by going to theun-churched, understanding their lives, andhelping them to hear the truth of the gospelin a way they can comprehend. The task willbe different depending on the person youare trying to reach. For some, it will be assimple as inviting them to a church service.For others, dinner in your home with someof your Christian friends will be a good start-ing point. Some may be too uncomfortablewith the intimacy of your home and youmight need to meet them in a neutral loca-tion like a restaurant or coffee shop. Somewill be ready to start immediately talkingabout Christ, and there are others who willneed to talk about more superficial things(like sports or television) for a while beforethey are comfortable sharing on a deeperlevel. The important thing is that we careenough about these people to actuallyinvest in their lives so they might be able tohear about the marvelous saving grace ofChrist.

We often talk about “keeping the Christ inChristmas.” The best way to uphold thissaying is by taking Christmas to the peopleand introducing them to our Christ. Thisdoesn’t just have to happen at Christmastime either. Christmas is one day. Christ isour Lord every day. So, let us use theChristmas day as an excuse to do the samething we will do when Christmas is over. Letus share the gospel with those who need tohear it. Let us introduce everyone around usto our Lord Jesus Christ, today, tomorrow,and every day.
