C1: How does Lincoln characterize the dead soldiers?

Lincoln characterizes the dead soldiers by saying “the brave

men, honored dead, and gave their life.”

C2: What inferences can you make about Lincoln’s hopes for the U.S.A’s future?

My inference is that he hopes that freedom will happen. Not

just for slaves, but for everyone. My evidence is that he

says,”That we here highly resolve that these dead shall not

have died in vain-that this nation, under God, shall have a new

birth of freedom-and that government of the people, by the

people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.” He

hopes the country will have freedom.

C3:What does Lincoln’s address say about the concept of liberty?

Lincoln’s address says this about the concept of liberty. It says that everyone in the country needs freedom and liberty from the pain and suffering that comes with war. Imagine if you were a Southern child who just found out that your father died in a big battle. You would feel no freer than a slave forced to work hard in the fields all day.

Us living people should dedicate ourselves to helping our country, which those who died greatly helped with.

We are having a terrible civil war, and those who died died because of it. Everyone in the country will be free no matter who they are.

D3:Pretend you are a stakeholder in the audience, and write a response to Lincoln’s speech.My stakeholder is the mother of a

Southern soldier who died in this battle.

She is stricken with grief because her son

died in this battle.

That man up there killed my Alburn! Now

he talks about “freedom” and “this

nation.” He only cares about seeing the

slaves free. If he takes our slaves away,

my husband cannot support our family,

and we’ll starve!

My next stakeholder is a Union soldier (named Tristam) who fought in this battle. He is happy because he is alive and his side won, but sad because his best friend died in this battle.

Well, Lincoln’s right. Slaves should be free, and all men are created equal. Hear that, you stinkin’ Confederates! ALL MEN CREATED EQUAL! If you had know that we wouldn’t have been in this war, and Mort wouldn’t have died! (sniff)(start crying)
