the gallery that glows signage As the signage for the exhibition could not be printed in glow in the dark ink as it could not been seen during the day I needed to try create Signage that would be recognisable and eye catching. I decided against printing digitally as this is just a standard finish of print that might might look quite dull on the wall. Instead I used brightly coloured card and mountboard to create the promotional items.Using different weight stocks gave the signage an extra 3d element. The mountboard creates depth as it is considerably thicker than the card. If the exhibition was set on a night I would of liked to have produced Glow in the Dark signage and wayfind- ing, this would be a nice touch and would make the exhibition more fun and interactive. the gallery that glows signage 1

As the signage for the exhibition could not be printed in glow in the dark ink as it could not been seen during the day I needed to try create Signage that would be recognisable and eye catching. I decided against printing digitally as this is just a standard nish of print that might might look quite dull on the wall.

Instead I used brightly coloured card and mountboard to create the promotional items.Using dierent weight stocks gave the signage an extra 3d element. The mountboard creates depth as it is considerably thicker than the card.

If the exhibition was set on a night I would of liked to have produced Glow in the Dark signage and waynd-ing, this would be a nice touch and would make the exhibition more fun and interactive.

The exhibition consists of 10 dierent glow in the dark organisms that all have the abilty to produce bioluminescent light. The majority of deep sea animals can produce this form of light but I have selected some of the most interesting.

There arn’t quite as many glow in the dark organisms on land as there are in the sea so I looked at both insects and fungus. Which has resulted in some really interesting imagery to work with.

the gallery that glows information

In order to educate and inform the audience about the glow in the dark organisms I created several dierent bits which helps to explain what the exhibition is about and why the organisms glow.

All of the products in the gallery have been hand screen printed with phosphorus binder which glows in the dark. Depending on the light source the gallery can look very dierent. Here you can see the name tag under UV light and complete darkness.

I created 2 concertina booklets, one for land and one for sea. Each booklet has information each of the organisms, educating the viewer on why they glow, how they glow and where they are found

The gallery is blank during the daylight just like most of the organisms which hide away through the day. The picture frames have been cut out on the laser cutter and each frame is relevant to the type of organism within.

Under the UV light the gallery really comes to life. The white paper gives o a bright blue glow which makes the sea organisms actually look like they are under water which is a really great aect.

But the magic really happens when the lights go out. The prints need time to charge in the UV light but when it is switched o the Prints give o a really nice glow. It looks great laid out on a big wall.

The illustration style used is consistent throughout the picture frames and the prints. I have used acrylic and mdf to make the frames which have all been cut out on the laser cutter, which has resulted in a clean cut nish. Each of the frames are relevant to the organism.

The fact that the exhibition glows makes it more fun and engaging. The illustration style appeals to all audiences. The information in the exhbition is easy to read and understand which helps being targeted at a younger audience.
