GLOWING PRODUCTS FORMAT RESEARCH

Glow in the dark - ProductsI don’t really know what area I want to narrow it down to yet, I like the idea of making something tactile like a book, but I have done this before, I am thinking maybe some large scale glow in the dark

GLOWING POSSIBILITIES RESEARCH

OVERVIEW OF PROJECT

My project is based on things that glow in the dark. I rst started by looking at the dierent types of things that glow in the dark. I found that there a few natural minerals that have this glowing property. There are also ways of chemically producing glowing compounds and the nal thing I came across was living organisms that have the power to produce bioluminescent light. This is done for all kinds of reasons. Some of which are to, distract prey, attract prey, mating ritual, camouage, visibility and many other crazy reasons. There are several species of mushrooms that have the power to glow and a select few insects, the majority of bioluminescent light comes from the DEEP SEA. Kilometers below the surface weird and wonderful sea creatures roam the depths producing there own light.

SHADOW WALL

Painting a wall in Glow in the dark paint has a couple of dierent uses. With the aid of a strobe light, you can create a fun interactive shadow wall that captures your image with every ash. This is something that children are likely to engage with. As glow in the dark stu is more likely to mesmerize children it might be worth considering them as my target audience.

The glow wall can also be used as a chalkboard with the use of a black light. You can use this like a pen on the wall as the paint soaks up the light and emits it back as you can see below.

TONE OF VOICE

I think I am wanting to create something which is both fun and engaging but also useful and informative. I think I will focus on living organisms that have the power to glow as this is allot more interesting than minerals, glow sticks etc. Also People are more likely to take an interest in animals and plants that have this amazing ability.

AUDIENCE

I have not yet chosen an audience to focus on, however I am swaying towards the younger generation as I think this will be more fun and appealing to a younger audience, even though it excites me just as much.

Triple View ArtArt can change in dierent light, here you can see the possibilities of layering up images. This works dierently in day light, UV light and the dark, it would be nice to produce imagery that reveals more under the dark sky.

WAY FINDING

Glow in the dark products are also used in waynding, These luminous signs are useful in power cuts, disasters etc. They help to navigate people round in emergencies etc. This could be an interesting thing to look at as the possibili-ties are endless. Signage doesn't necessarily need to be helpful it could be fun. A treasure hunt, maze etc. I need to think outside the box.
