Tis’ the season for taxes! Need Help?

Every Monday from 4 - 7 pm at the library until April 8 the VITA/TCE Tax Assistance program volunteers will be offering a free tax preparation service available to low and middle income taxpayers (un-der $50,000 of income or over 60 years of age with routine tax returns). Returns are prepared by IRS Certified Volunteers. Reservations are not accepted. Registration is on a first come, first served basis. Returns will not be processed on-site, therefore fol-low up appointments will be scheduled. This program is not put on by the library; any questions need to be asked in person at the Monday night tax preparation program.

The Clearview Library District’s Celebration of the Arts is Fast Approaching

The annual Juried Art Show for Visual Artists is scheduled to be on dis-play at the Library from March 21 through April 18.

Northern Colorado artists interested in participating in this juried art show are invited to secure a copy of the official Call for Entry form from the Library’s web site. Pre-printed copies are also available at the Library’s circulation desk.

Artists should note that there are three opportunities to submit your works of art this year: March 14 from 4 to 7 pm; March 15 from 9 am until noon; and finally on March 16 from 9 until 2 pm.

There are three events open to the public during this year’s show:

The Opening Event will occur on Thursday March 21 from 6 to 8 pm. The awards ceremony will include refreshments.

The Evening of Poetry and Music will occur on Thursday April 4 from 6 to 8 pm. Brad Volger and Rico Moore will read some of their original poems. Nathan Triz, Steven Davis, and Amanda Michaels will provide music.

The Closing Event will occur Thursday April 18 from 6 to 8 pm. This event will provide the public a meet and greet opportunity with this year’s Artists, and all winners of the Silent Auction will be able to pick up their wonderful pieces of art.

Freegal and the Grammys

Do you absolutely love that song everybody has been talking about since the Grammys but you only catch bits and pieces of it on the radio? Why not see if it’s available for a free download from our library’s website? The Clearview Library District offers a free online service called Freegal (short for free and legal) that allows library patrons to down-load up to three songs each week! Once downloaded, the song files are DRM-free, meaning you can share them, burn to disc or transfer to an MP3 player. The music available on Freegal is based on the Sony music catalog and contains thousands of titles.

Begin building your music collection today with some of the latest Grammy winners such as Adele, Mumford & Sons, Kelly Clarkson, Jack White, Alabama Shakes, Bonnie Raitt, Usher, Drake, Jimmy Cliff, Ravi Shankar and more! The library also has music CDs available for checkout. Check our catalog at www.cleraviewlibrary.org for some Grammy winners that aren’t on Freegal such as The Black Keys, Gotye, Fun, Taylor Swift, The Lumineers, Florence and the Machine, Maroon 5, Skrillex, Deadmau5, Paul McCartney, The Goat Rodeo Sessions and more!

Sunday Night Parent’s Dilemma

School report is due Monday morning. It’s Sunday night; the Library is closed. Teacher says you can’t use the internet. What’s a parent to do? Don’t worry! If you have your library card and PIN, you can help your child get that

assignment done from your home computer.

The Library subscribes to several sources that will help your kids with school reports and assignments. Go to the Library’s website, www.clearviewlibrary.org. Look for “Find” at the top of the page. Under “Find” is a list of data-bases. Primary Search is great for grade school kids; it contains full text for 80 popular elementary school maga-zines. Middle Search Plus contains over 150 full text magazines for middle school kids. MAS Ultra School edition

contains full text for nearly 500 popular high school magazines. In addition, Points of View is good for pro and con or debate topics and Global Issues in Context is good for assignments on countries and current topics. History

Reference Center is self- explanatory and for a general encyclopedia, Funk and Wagnalls will do the trick. And though you are using the internet to access these great sources, it is not the same as doing a Google search, so

the teacher won’t disqualify your sources!

Some Quiet Time?

Libraries are thought of traditionally as quiet places for study, reading and working. Current times tell us that this is not exactly the way it is. With increasing use of libraries, come increasing activity and noise levels. Libraries

encourage the community to feel at home and enjoy the library while maintaining noise levels at a respectful level. If you are looking for some less active times of quiet at the library here are some suggested times and days that are a bit more serene: Weekday early afternoons, Friday and Saturday mornings, and Wednesday evenings.

Paws Welcomes Tammy and Chloe

Please help us welcome our newest PAWS volunteers, Tammy Stewart and her therapy dog Chloe. Chloe is a Burmese Mountain Dog who has also volunteered at retirement homes.

Chloe is almost three years old and is a very gentle dog who loves kids. Tammy is the former Ac-tivities Director at Sugar Valley Estates retirement community in Loveland. She worked there for 14 years leading activities and programs for residents. She enjoys hiking, biking and spending

lots of time with her grandchildren. Tammy and Chloe will be reading with children in our PAWS for Reading program.

We current have 6 dog owners who bring their dogs to the library for children to read to them. It is a wonderful way for beginning or reluctant readers to have a happy, stress free, reading

experience, and the dogs love it too. All the dogs are certified therapy dogs, and many volunteer at other libraries and retirement homes when they are not at the Windsor-Severance Library. We

now have 8 dogs who volunteer: Fynn, Gryphon, Marlea, Summit, Kina, Moose, Tess, and Chloe. Patrons can sign up to read to a PAWS dog in the Children’s Department or they can contact Deb at [email protected]. Welcome

Tammy and Chloe!!
