The Psalmist expressly says how good it is when Gods people live together in unity. Some translations of Psalm 133:1 use the verb to dwell, and that really carries the full weight of the Hebrew. There is something very deliberate about the notion of dwelling together. To dwellis not the idea of some fleeting visit; rather, it is to make our home, the place where we raise our families, and to put down roots, commit to each other, serve, give. To dwellis to persist in our unity—we stick at it. And that we did! LWML women from First Lutheran will host the LWML Divide Zone rally on Saturday, September 26, at the church. Theme for the rally is “Amazing Grace” and activities are scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. and end at 12:30 p.m. Breakfast “goodies” will be available. Divide Zone board members will be elected, and the loca-tion for the 2022 convention (which will be held in the Divide Zone) will be chosen. Newly-elected LWML District President Pam Kercher will be on hand to

share input about the convention and the planning for it. Because of Covid-19 restrictions on the

number of people allowed to attend a gathering, and be-cause she needs to know how much food to plan for, First Lu-theran women plan-ning to attend the rally need to notify Marjorie O’Rourke by September 18. All women mem-bers of First Lutheran

are automatically members of LWML, so mark your calendar now and plan to join together with your sisters in Christ!

It’s Rally time, ladies!

Herb and Lorraine Bauer, long-time members at First Lutheran, have moved to a new home, but would love to stay in touch. You may send them a note to 1200 Harwood Drive South, #284, Fargo, ND 58104-6298; email them at [email protected] or give them a call at (701)552-0982. We leave you with this verse: “How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity! . . . For there the Lord bestows his blessing, even life forevermore” (Psalm 133:1, 3b

NIV). The Psalmist expressly says how good it is when God’s people live together in unity. Some translations of Psalm 133:1 use the verb “to dwell,” and that really carries the full weight of the Hebrew. Ladies (and men) are invited to join the ladies of Dorcas Circle who gather in the fellowship hall on the first and third Wednesdays of each month to tie quilts. This is a very social, low-key activity that provides quilts for Lu-theran World Relief, local causes, and baptisms at First Lutheran Church. We also have coffee and treats each session! The first meeting for this quilting season is set for 9 a.m. on Wednesday, September 2, 2020. We would love to see you there!

If you are in first (1st) to eighth (8th) grade, YOU are invited to be a member of HIS Kids! We have a LOT of fun and practice to sing in church about one Sunday a month. If there is enough interest, we can have a small group this year. Please let Shari Miller know if you would like to be a part of this group. We would begin in October at the earliest. It could be an exciting year as HIS First Lutheran Kids join their voices in praise to our awesome God! YOU are invited to become part of HIS Kids!

Shari Miller, Director

Dorcas Circle . . . Knot what you think!

“Backyard Bolt” VBS program provides opportunity to grow in faith while having fun! Backyard Bolt Towards Faith in Jesus is an exciting three-session Bi-ble camp available through the church website, firstlutheranhelena.org. Be-cause we were unable to hold our reg-ular Vacation Bible School in August due to COVID 19 limitations, this pro-gram provides an alternative for our younger members. Simply call the church office for the password and log in for games, crafts, Bible stories and music. Because this is an online program, you can share it with friends and rela-

tives in Helena, or anywhere. The program will be available through the end of 2020, so give it a try and pass the word along! Backyard Bolt packets are available

at the church. They contain information, origami paper, extra craft ideas, and more to supplement the online videos. Backyard Bolt was made possible through an Action Grant from Thrivent Financial. The grant

money was used to purchase the pro-gram and materials for the packets.

First Edition Book Club members will meet for lunch at 12:15 p.m. on Sat-urday, September 12, at the home of Nancy Kraft. Club members are current-ly reading—and will dis-cuss—Sisters First by Jen-na Bush Hager and Barba-ra Pierce Bush. Please RSVP to Nancy by

Wednesday, September 9, by calling 442-2744. Members will meet for lunch at 12:15 p.m. on Satur-day, October 3, at the home of Nancy Bowe. The book to be read for this meeting will be decided at the Sep-tember 12 meeting. Please RSVP to Nancy by Wednes-day, September 30, by calling 449-4042.

Can you hear the choir singing? If there is enough interest, we tenta-tively plan to start up Chancel Choir beginning the end of September af-ter summer and pandemic break. What does this mean? It means that beginning September 30, we will meet on Wednesdays fol-lowing our church ser-vices (about 7:15 p.m.) and sing for our Sunday

services during the months of October through May. The plan is to practice social distancing as we practice and per-form. Note: Plans are subject to change, as has been learned in the past months. We will remain adaptable. Are you a “shower singer”? Are you interested in joining us this year? Our choir just might appeal to you. OR … would you be interested in doing a solo or duet or singing in a small group? We have exciting music and really hope that you will contribute to our worship with your musical talent. Please contact Shari Miller if you are interested so we can see if this will work. Please share your musical gifts with us!

September Birthdays

Honesty before God requires the most fundamental risk of faith we can take: the risk that God is good, that God does love us unconditionally. It is in taking this risk that we rediscover our dignity. To bring the truth of ourselves, just as we are, to God, just as God is, is the most dignified thing we can do in this life. — Gerald May, Addiction and Grace
