The First Triumvirate

The first triumvirate was a political alliance between Crassus, Pompey, and Caesar.Crassus played a part in connecting the military to the triumvirate. Having the back-up from the millitary made the triumvirate much harder to contest. Why was the triumvirate successful?Crassus and Pompey alone were very powerful, they shared the same views but despised each other. Julius was the catalyst that reconciled them and made them the wonder trioThey got power by replacing anybody that opposed them. They abused their money and fame to get what they wanted.

CrassusJulius was really popular with the plebians. He gained popularity with the lower class through military campaigns. He had loyal soldiers that gave him muscles to seize power. Crassus on the other hand, helped Julius rise in fame by supplying the triumvirate with money. WealthCrassus was the wealithest man in Rome, and some predict him the be the wealthiest man in the world. With this he had an enormous influence on the government. He could manipulate the government with his finance. Money & Power & RespectCrassus is a prime example of how money, and respect could get you anything you want. With the peoples support and the financial upper hand. Crassus was able to overwhelm the opposite sides of the spectrum.
