September 8th has been officially designated as Rally Day here at First Church. As we do each year when Fall and
a new school year rolls around, we will use part of our regular Sunday morning service to celebrate the opportunities that
come with a new year of Christian Education. There will also be a time of dedication and consecration of those special
people who have volunteered to take on the responsibility of teaching Sunday School in God’s service.
But don’t forget that there are many other opportunities to serve and to use your gifts here at First Church. Let
me say ahead of time, If I forget to mention any, I apologize up front and promise to highlight the group in another edition
of the Newsletter. But at the same time, I would encourage you to get involved in ANY of the following ways:
• Choir- meets to practice Wednesday nights and, of course, provides a positive experience to worship every
Sunday.
• Refresh!- Every Wednesdays beginning October 2nd, a children’s program and a new adult Bible Study will
provide opportunity and scriptural learning for the whole family.
• Bible Study- Meets every Tuesday at 9:30 in the Alpha Classroom for study and discussion of God’s word.
• Men’s Fellowship- meets the third Saturday of every month for breakfast and a time together. The group also
provides important services to the church and church members on an as-needed basis.
• Sister of Faith- just as the men of the congregation meet, so do the ladies! Currently they get together the third
Saturday at the Bistro for breakfast.
• Thursday morning Breakfast Club. Meets at Spring House at 9 am for breakfast and socializing.
• Book Club – meet on the third Monday of the month at 10 am in the Parlor.
• Quilting-- Wednesdays at 9 am in the Quilting room.
• Knitting Group (Prayer Shawl Ministry)- Meet Wednesday’s at 1 pm and Thursday’s at 6:30 pm in the Parlor.
• Junior Youth- Meet on the third Sunday and every Wednesday during Recharge!
• Senior Youth- Senior High Youth meet for scheduled activities.
• Exercise Group – Meet at 6:15 pm on Thursday. Currently the group is walking at the football field, but as the
weather cools down, they will move back to the church.
• Relay for Life team – Our church team has fundraisers throughout the year and the event culminates in the Cove
Relay for Life event in June.
In addition to these regular groups, we have people who provide ministry through helping with funeral meals and other
as-needed events. And don’t forget –we’re always looking for additional volunteers to help with worship leadership and
Sunday School and Children’s Church!

The Sinner by Tess Gerritsen
Not even the icy temperatures of a typical New England winter can match the bone-chilling scene of carnage discovered at the chapel of Our Lady of Divine Light. Within the cloistered convent lie two nuns–one dead, one critically injured–victims of an unspeakably savage attacker. The brutal crime appears to be without motive, but medical examiner Maura Isles’s autopsy of the dead woman yields a shocking surprise: Twenty-year-old Sister Camille gave birth
before she was murdered. Then another body is found, mutilated beyond recognition. Together, Isles and homicide detective Jane Rizzoli uncover an ancient horror that connects these terrible slaughters. As long-buried secrets come to light, Maura Isles finds herself drawn inexorably toward the heart of an investigation that strikes close to home–and toward a dawning revelation about the killer’s identity too shattering to consider.
