“Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you “1 Peter 5-7

I am often singing the praises of our Learning Support Team. Our staff are a presence in every classroom across the whole school. Every class has Teacher Aide time and the staff are trained to look out for any concerns, and these are not limited to learning specific issues. They are the extra eyes and ears of the school. They chat with students about their day and often guide students where there are friendship issues, misunderstandings or the need for reassurance.

We guide students to navigate their way through life’s up and downs, helping them to develop problem solving strategies; for we all often have the answers ourselves; we just need guidance to look in the right place for them.

We assist students to move from the worry of What if…” to the confidence found in “I can do this”. We help them to accept and manage uncertainty as unexpected things happen.

I had the privilege of joining the Middle School students on their camp at Mungalli Falls earlier in the term. The personal grown, the enhancement of friendships, both new and old, was positive for all to experience. We worked through harmony and disharmony, together. We accepted challenges and rose to them. We worked as a team and discovered and celebrated the gifts and talents of others.

Our students are blessed. Their enquiring minds are enriched daily from all experiences, both positive and difficult and walking with them for the time we have them at NCC is rewarding and satisfying.

We have many exciting things to look forward to in

Term 4 where we will work together, experience

new things and make great things happen. As the

holidays approach I am reminded of the need to

rest and renew. On behalf of all the staff at NCC we

wish all parents, carers, and students a blessed

holiday with your loved ones.

Mrs. Terese Marchesi

Year 6 News

Year 6 Drama / Poetry

There is drama in every word of a poem and Year 6 conveyed the story and drama to their Year 1 Buddies of Mulga Bill's Bicycle by Banjo Paterson. The play was designed to excite the year 1 students about the world of language and the possibilities of sound, and lead them through the steps of making a poem from the page to the stage.

Pray for Michaela, Lara and Pauline who are our Year 10 students on India Mission trip for the next two weeks!

Year 10 India Mission Trip 2016

Year 10 Trip 2016

A Thursday afternoon in August found our NCC Year Ten Students in the departure lounge at Gove Airport ready to embark on a great adventure. After sleeping over in the Senior Study Centre at Northern Territory Christian College, we boarded the buses with the Darwin students and headed south. All day and all night and all day again…. and we reached Coober Pedy where we did church underground. Another all-nighter on the bus found us at Adelaide where we went ice skating and visited Flinders University. Further highlights of the trip included skiing at Thredbo, seeing the Yirrkala Bark Petition at

Parliament House, going on a cruise on Sydney Harbour , visiting Dubbo Zoo and, of course, making lots of new friends. We were on the road for nearly a month. It was an amazing experience!!

Year 3,4 students have used national flags from various countries, linking in with class Olympic themes, as a starting point to design sails for their model boats. They designed the sails on an A4 template which was then reduced down to create the sail design at a scale that was appropriate for their boats. They also designed a flag to go with their sail designs. Students learnt about applying a design to different formats as well as the value of working at a larger scale when reduction technology is available.

Transition, Grade one and Grade two students have worked on class forests last week where they learnt to use “simple shapes to help us draw” and developed various animal drawings. They then cut these out (which including some challenging craft skills) before sticking them onto a class composition for a forest.

“Using simple shapes to help us draw” is an approach to drawing that can benefit students from all levels as it is fundamental to drawing.

In Years 5 and 6, students have also used the above approach for the development of their invention designs some of which will be seen in this week’s Year 5 assembly. Students had to set a challenge to develop diagram of a machine to perform a particular task (could be a crazy or imagined task) and then refine drawings which showed each stage of the task. In this case students used blue pencils (like many illustrators do) for the simple shapes which undergirded their drawings.

It was fantastic to have the Life Education program visit our school this week. The program featured all primary years’ classes and was well received. The primary school program consists of 13 curriculum based modules focusing on issues around food and nutrition, personal safety, physical activity, cyber safety, safety with medicine and legal drugs; tobacco, alcohol and

caffeine. By taking a comprehensive approach to drug and health education the modules help children to develop relationship skills, positive communication (both face to face and online), problem solving and decision making skills.

They provided students the opportunity to develop strategies, and practice the skills required to avoid the harms associated with an unhealthy lifestyle.

Police Remembrance Day Service - 2016

The Year 5’s and Shae Dentith represented the school at Yirrkala for National Police Remembrance Day. It was a solemn occasion to honour the memory of comrades who have given their lives in service to their communities to ensure peace and order in our communities.

After the service the whole

congregation marched from the Art

Centre to Yirrkala Oval in support of

saying no to domestic violence. We

were welcomed to country as part

of the Police Remembrance Day

service.
