Youth Advisory Board: Attention all 7th and 8th grade students! Do you want to serve in a

leadership role as an 8th grader or while at the high school next year? If so, the Youth Advisory

Board is looking for motivated teens to join their Board. This is a great opportunity to advocate

for and participate in activities related to youth health and safety in Lee's Summit. If you're

interested, please see Ms. Lange in room 913 or pick up an application at the front office. The

following link can provide additional information as well: Youth Advisory Board

Kindness Week February 10-16: Take Time to Be Kind is one week devoted to performing

random and purposeful acts of kindness throughout the Lee's Summit community. Community

members, students and businesses are encouraged to participate - perhaps performing a good

deed for a friend, neighbor or stranger - without the expectation of anything in return. It doesn't

take much to make someone's day with a few kind words or actions. On Wednesday, February

12th, wear yellow to support acts of kindness and use the hashtag #LSKindness to post acts of

kindness you have witnessed during the week. Take Time to be Kind is made possible by the city

of Lee’s Summit’s Human Relations Commission.

STEM Club for Girls: Any girl interested in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math,

please plan on joining us for our next STEM club meeting. The topic this month will be Physics

and we have a couple of different engineering activities for you to participate in. The meeting

will be February 11 from 2:30 - 3:45 in Ms. Evert's room.

Car Riders: In order to help with congestion in the morning, please pull as far forward as you

can to allow for multiple drop-offs at the same time.

LSW Parent Volunteer Opportunity: Are you an 8th grade parent of an athlete looking to get

involved at the high school level? The Lee’s Summit West Athletic Booster Club is looking for

volunteers to serve on our 2020-21 Board. We are seeking three or four individuals who are

interested in making a difference in the lives of our LSW student athletes. Board members are

required to attend our monthly meetings, along with a willingness to carry out various

responsibilities that are needed throughout the school year. Please consider applying online via

our website at www.lswtitanboosterclub.com. Submissions are due by April 15th and elections

will take place on May 4th. New board members will start their positions in July 2020….. Go

Titans! If you have any questions please direct them to Jennie Long at 816-668-5638 or

Message from the Health Room: This has been an unusually active flu/illness season. When

deciding to send your student to school it is important to follow the minimum district illness

guidelines:

o Students should be fever free (<100.4) for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing

medication before returning to school.

o Students should remain at home until 24 hours after the last episode of vomiting

o Students should be free of continuous coughing.

o Students should remain at home 24 hours after taking the first dose of an antibiotic for a

contagious infection/illness.

A child who is sick will not be able to perform well in school and is likely to spread the illness

to other children and staff. It is particularly important to practice good hygiene such as frequent

hand washing and not eating or drinking after each other during the cold and flu season.
