got his teaching certificate and began teaching high school vocal music in Livonia, and Laura earned her M.S. in Management and started working in corporate marketing for a few years before she took a job teaching business at Aquinas. She also became an adjunct professor at Medaille College and Roberts Wesleyan College, and then began thinking about getting a doctorate degree to further her career in higher education. With some guidance and encouragement from Dr. Steve Bovee at Roberts, Laura found a Doctor of Business Administration program at Anderson University in Indiana that fit her needs.

The DBA program at Anderson University allowed Laura to still work full time here in Rochester, as it only required her to be in Indiana 4 weeks a year. However, after her first year of school at Anderson, she was offered a job as a marketing professor. So, in 2003, she and Marc moved to Indiana, and she completed years 2, 3, and 4 of the DBA program while teaching marketing

FEATURED RESIDENT FAMILY

Marc and Laura Falco both grew up in the Rochester, NY area. Marc lived in Gates and graduated from The Charles Finney School, and Laura graduated

from Churchville-Chili. They didn’t meet, though, until they were both at Houghton College, a Christian liberal arts college in Western New York. Marc was double majoring in communication and music, and Laura was a business administration major with concentrations in marketing and management. Laura, who had torn her ACL while playing soccer, needed something to do to keep herself busy, so she joined an on-campus music group that Marc happened to be a part of. The pair hit it off, and after they graduated in 1998, they married in 1999. They just celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary this past November!

After graduating from Houghton, both Marc and Laura went to Roberts Wesleyan College to further their education. Marc

full-time. In the meantime, Marc earned his Masters of Music at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana.

After Laura completed her DBA and Marc completed his MM, the couple decided to move back to Rochester. Although Laura still had a job offer from Anderson University, Roberts Wesleyan had also offered her a job. Both she and Marc agreed that Rochester was the better choice because their families are here, and this is where home is. Marc’s family still resides in Gates, and Laura’s parents are in Churchville, and both have siblings that are local. Little did they know how critical this support system would be in the coming years. So, in the summer

of 2006, they moved back to Chili into their current home off of Chili Ave. Marc landed a job at West Irondequoit as a vocal music teacher and has been there ever since. He now teaches in the junior high and high school, but has taught in the elementary school in the past as well. Laura continues to teach marketing at Roberts Wesleyan College,

and recently served for five years as the Director of the Master of Science in Strategic Marketing Program.

Once the Falcos had settled into their new home and their new careers, they decided it was time to start their family. They welcomed their first child, Malachi, in September

of 2007. He arrived early and urgently via C-section, but thankfully he and Laura were healthy. In April of 2009, they welcomed Rinnah, also by C-section. The recoveryfrom this C-section was not easy. In fact, Laura describes the recovery as “brutal” due to nerve damage that had occurred during the C-section. Because of this, Marc

and Laura began thinking about adoption for the future. However, they became pregnant with Levi, who was delivered by C-section in December of 2011, and again the recovery was long and painful because of more nervedamage. So, when they were ready to expand the family again, they knew this time adoption was the right answer. “We knew we wanted a bigger family, we knewwe had more love to give,” says Laura. “There were kids who needed a family, so it just made sense.”

In June of 2012, Marc and Laura began the adoption process. Ironically enough, it just happened to be

the month that Judah was born in China! Adoption is a long process, but by November of 2013, Marc and Laura were in China ready to bring Judah home. During their stay, they visited the orphanage where Judah was and saw that the nursery had 33 babies, but only 31 cribs. That was when they knew in their hearts that they would be back to China to adopt again.

A few years went by, and the Falcos adjusted to having 4 children. Slowly, Marc and Laura started discussing adoption again, and Marc suggested that this time, they adopt 2 children. He also asked Laura how she felt about adopting older children. “It’s not about us needing more kids, it’s about these kids needing a family. We want to be their family,” says Marc,

explaining why he was so open to multiple and older children. Laura was more hesitant, but after thought and prayer, she agreed. “We just jumped in on faith at that point. It’s not about what we can do, it’s about what God can do through us,” Laura says.

The Falcos were matched with Caleb in November of 2016. A few months later, Laura inquired about another child on an adoption website, one that frequently put her on waiting lists and never further responded after that. This time, however, she got a response right away. Marc and Laura had been matched with 2 children! They decided, as a whole family, that they wanted to proceed with adopting both children. In July of 2017, all 6 Falcos, along with Laura’s cousin, Ann Dietz of Churchville, headed to China and brought home Caleb and Hope. They came back home in August, and 3 weeks later, all 6 of the Falco children, Caleb and Hope included, were in school!

Marc and Laura often introduce their children in the order that they became Falcos, instead of by age. Here’s what that looks like:

MALACHIMalachi is the mature first-born Falco and a great role model for

his younger brothers and sisters. He’s 12 years old, is in the 7th grade, and reads anything he can get his hands on. He has been in the Gifted and Talented program since 4th grade and his favorite subject is science, but he really likes lunch, too! Malachi

is a musical guy, and started playing the saxophone in 4th grade, and the double bass in 5th grade. He plays in the jazz band, and made the Junior High Area All State Orchestra with double bass. Malachi also likes playing soccer, especially defense.

RINNAHRinnah is a confident 10-year-old who is in the 5th grade. She is

in the Gifted and Talented program at school and loves art, reading and of course, music. She plays piano and viola, and is in an after school ensemble singing group called Surround Sound. She’s in Drama Club, and had the leads in 2 musicals at Chestnut Ridge! Rinnah is also quite the chef; she likes baking and cooking, and helps with dinner every night. She plays soccer, too, and is a good sister, helping out with the other kids.

LEVILevi is 8 years old and in the 2nd

grade. He is the family comedian, always making his family smile and laugh. He even participated at the talent show at school last year, and guess what he did? A comedy routine! Levi plays basketball and soccer, and plays the piano and likes to sing. His favorite subjects are art, library, and computers. His parents say he’s a picky eater, but Levi says he loves eating noodles!

JUDAHJudah is 7 years old and in the 2nd

grade. His favorite subject is math and his favorite food is chicken wings. He has been playing the piano for about a year and says he’s pretty good at it! He also plays soccer and he likes it when he is on defense. Judah loves spending time outdoors, whether it’s riding his bike, bouncing on the pogo stick, or swimming. When he can’t be outdoors, he likes playing Uno with Hope.

CALEBCaleb is 10 years old and in the 4th

grade. It’s no surprise that PE is his favorite subject, since he plays basketball and soccer, and can often be found playing soccer outside with Levi. Caleb has been playing the violin for 3 months, loves video games, and likes eating spicy food and going to the Asian grocery store. He also enjoys reading superhero books and graphic novels, like Dog Man and Captain Underpants.

HOPEHope is 13 and in the 6th grade. Her

favorite classes are science and gym. She

participated at the Empire State Games for the Physically Challenged at SUNY Brockport and won 4 gold medals. She is a fast runner and a strong swimmer, too. Hope plays the drums and cello, and enjoys doing puzzles and drawing. She also helps take care of the family dog, feeding him breakfast every day and cleaning up after him. Hope is a great sister, and everyone wants to sit next to her in the van!

Marc and Laura want everyone to know that no matter what, they would do this all again. “It’s not easy, but it’s absolutely worth it,” says Laura. “You don’t have to be perfect parents.” For those who think adoption is too hard or too expensive, there are options. “People think that they can’t do it...but if it’s in your heart to do it, you can,” says Marc.

For Marc and Laura, North Chili has been the perfect place to raise their 6 children. “There is a culture here that we missed so much when we lived far away…a warmth here...openness,” says Marc. “We have never felt like any of our kids aren’t welcome here, regardless of ethnic background or special need.” He and Laura can’t say enough good things about the Churchville-Chili School District. “The school district has gone above and beyond to ensure that all six of our kids receive the individualized services that they need,” says Laura. Marc adds that the teachers really care about the students, pointing out that, “They’re on your team.” The wonderful school district, their supportive church community at The Father’s House, and their friends and family have made North Chili the perfect home for the Falcos.

BUSINESS PROFILE

For many people, exercise and nutrition are common New Year’s resolutions. It makes sense—we all want to look and feel better, yet most of us come up with a variety of excuses

and don’t follow through. What if you found out it was not only convenient, but possibly even free?

Chili Fitness Center is right in your neighborhood and has been in business for over 20 years. Established in 1997 and located behind McDonald’s in the Ace Swim Plaza at 3313 Chili Avenue, Chili Fitness Center has gone through its own transformations over the years. Though it has always been family-owned, it originally started in what is now the Two Fronts Plaza that houses Bill Gray’s on Chili Avenue. At one point it was part of the Gold’s Gym chain but later broke from that franchise and became Rochester Fitness Center before becoming Chili Fitness Center. The name change was made not only to help people find it more easily, but also to reflect their pride in being part of the town of Chili.

The gym within Chili Fitness Center makes up the majority of space and features cardio and circuit equipment, treadmills, ellipticals, rowing machines, spin bikes, punching bags, classrooms, an indoor track, private personal training rooms and even outdoor turf! A multitude of classes are available, including Silver Sneakers and Silver & Fit, so there’s sure to be a fit for everyone! Unlimited classes are included with all gym memberships and walk-ins can pay a small fee for a day pass and/or take any class. Personal trainers are on staff and available for individual or group sessions as well as nutritional guidance.

But Chili Fitness is much more than a gym! Inside you will also find health and wellness professionals, making it a complete wellness center. Campanella Chiropractic, Infiniti Hair and Nail Salon, Graceful Bodyworks Massage and our newest edition, Rachel Snow Ethetician & Eyelash Extensions are all part of the center.

So back to a free membership. Are you eligible? Contact them to find out. You can call (585)889-1000 or better yet, stop in with your health insurance card, get a tour of the facility and find out! The road to wellness awaits and there’s no better time than now!
