Northstar Granite Tops is a custom fabricator and installer of kitchen and bar countertops, bath vanity tops, fireplace sur- rounds, table tops and more, specializing in granite, marble, engineered quartz, soapstone and other natural stone materials. Locally based at 601 Sixth Street in Maple Lake and owned by brothers Rock and Steve Bobick, the company has been providing beautiful and lasting stone-surface products to builders, remodelers and the direct consuming public since 2002. With its origins in Maple Plain, Northstar Granite Tops made the move to Maple Lake in May 2006. “We were looking for a place where we could purchase land in an industrial park and put up the building with some space out- side for the granite,” Steve said. “In Maple Lake, we got a really good feeling about the commu- nity and everything that they were willing to let us do here. This place is perfect for us. It’s a nice location for us to go out of, and a nice location for cus- tomers to come in.” Originally, he said, most of the company’s work was in the metro area. But as the business has established roots in this community, so has its client base expanded to include more of the homes and businesses in Wright County. Accredited, efficient and eco-friendly A stated mission to exceed customer expectations, in both service and quality, might also play a large part in Northstar’s rising reputation. The Bobick brothers strive to meet that goal by investing time and money in their employees, their plant and its equipment. Employees undergo extensive training to ensure they can properly use state-of-the-art equipment and tools to craft the finest stone countertops available. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has vis- ited the facility and recognized it as a clean, safe environment for employees and customers. Maintaining that focus on excel- lence confirms the brothers’ con- fidence that they can provide the best personalized service, effi- cient turn-around times and superior quality. An environmentally consci- entious enterprise, Northstar’s facility was designed with a closed-loop water recycling sys- tem, requiring replacement of only what little water evaporates during the fabrication process. The company also recycles 100 percent of leftover countertop materials, donating larger rem- nants to local artisans and crush- ing the remaining scraps to be used in making road beds for the state of Minnesota. Since 2009 the companyhas been accredited by the Marble Institute of America (MIA), a distinction that demonstrates Northstar’s expertise in natural stone craftsmanship and a true concern for worker and customer safety, as well as an adherence to business ethics and sound prac- tices. Once accredited, a compa- ny is recognized by the MIA as being one of the finest natural stone fabricators in the indus- try. Northstar Granite Tops is one of just 57 Accredited Natural Stone Fabricators in the United States, and one of only two in Minnesota. A dramatic effectRock and Steve are closely

involved in day-to-day opera-tions of the company, as Rockparticipates in virtually everytemplating job while Steve spe-cializes in installation. Bothdivide their other tasks withdaily responsibilities in theNorthstar works in the officeand show room.

And though they’re likelybest known for customizedgranite creations, Steve said,“We’ll do any natural stone -granite, marble, onyx, soap-stone, travertine - any naturalstone, anything out there, we

can get it.” Another popular offering is

engineered quartz, an amalgamof crushed hard quartz and epoxythat’s strong, attractive andmaintenance-free.

And any time, Steve says, isa good time for home improve-ments.

“Any time someone gets theurge to update their kitchen,we’re happy to be one of theeasiest ways to do that,” he said.“Change out a few cupboard anddrawer pulls, add granite coun-tertops, and it’s almost like awhole new kitchen. The changeis just very dramatic.”

If your cabinets need work,he suggests having them refaced

and placing a granite counter ontop of that.

“We can swap out the oldtops and put in granite withminimal disruption,” he said.“Two weeks after templates aremade, we can remove and takeaway old countertops and putgranite tops in – all in one day.And it’ll be a perfect fit whenwe’re done.”
