The Europe day

The melody used to symbolize the EU comes from the Ninth Symphony which was created by Ludwig Van Beethoven in 1823.

The founding ideas of the European Union were expressed for the first time on May 9th, 1950 by Robert Schuman (who was the French Minister of Foreign Affairs) because this is the first day of peace in Europe after World War II. So May, 9th is a symbolic day.

The UE motto

« United in diversity » is the motto of the European Union, it first came into use in 2000.This motto means that European people come together to work in peace and prosperity, sharing their different cultures, traditions and languages.
